Chapter 12 - Chapter 12 The Kidnapper in the Game of Hide and Seek

Regarding the proposal to "redo everything" from Ve Dinh Tieu, Khuong Tich Yen thought for a moment and then nodded. "If the doctor says that letting Moc Vi be exposed more to her previous work environment will help her recover her memory, then I have no objections. She can come whenever she wants. After all, this is still the internship period; it's very rare for an intern lawyer to directly participate in courtroom interrogations. Even if she hadn't lost her memory, she would still only be assisting me."

"I just saw Moc Vi's condition earlier, and it looked quite good. I don't think there will be any problems."

Giai Moc Vi bowed deeply to her mentor. "Lawyer Khuong, I've troubled you."

Khuong Tich Yen gently patted her shoulder. Beside them, Dam Uyen Chi was overjoyed; she rushed over, grabbed Giai Moc Vi's hand, and exclaimed, "Welcome back!"

Ve Dinh Tieu had to leave for the City Police Department. He waved his hand at Giai Moc Vi and said, "Seven pm."

Giai Moc Vi nodded, knowing he was referring to the time he got off work.

As soon as the only man in the room left, Dam Uyen Chi lowered her voice and teasingly nudged Giai Moc Vi. "You and Officer Ve are progressing fast!"

"…" Giai Moc Vi stayed silent.

Dam Uyen Chi clasped her hands together, her face blushing. "Just now I saw the two of you walking up hand in hand! Did you stay at Officer Ve's place last night? Did you two…"

Giai Moc Vi answered seriously, "Everything is normal."

She definitely wouldn't say that the only reason she hurried back to work was to compensate him for the broken bed, the rent, and the other expenses!

Khuong Tich Yen smiled. "Alright, Uyen Chi, stop talking about that. The law firm just finished a batch of cases these past two days, and there's nothing new at the moment. Go look in the database for some of the cases I handled when I was young and bring them to Moc Vi. I think she didn't forget her professional knowledge, judging from earlier. That's very fortunate."

Otherwise, having to relearn the entire judicial field from scratch would be truly difficult.

This would also help Moc Vi learn more about Khuong Tich Yen.

Dam Uyen Chi automatically introduced the "Unbeaten Queen of the Legal World" to Giai Moc Vi. Seven years ago, after separating from her husband, she started her own practice, and ever since then, she had never lost a case.

As she unlocked the office door, Dam Uyen Chi turned back and said, "Lawyer Khuong has a daughter who is in middle school. Her husband is a private detective with no real fame."

Giai Moc Vi nodded. "Why did they separate?"

"Most likely because her husband always angered her. It all started with one big fight, and in frustration, Lawyer Khuong walked out. And… it just dragged on for seven years."

"…" Giai Moc Vi fell silent.

A fight that lasted seven years…

Impressive.

Why not just get divorced?

She didn't understand.

"Women can be very stubborn about certain things." Dam Uyen Chi laughed, recalling how Lawyer Khuong always acted like a spoiled lady whenever her useless detective husband was mentioned.

"Just like how you insist on pursuing Officer Ve."

"…" Giai Moc Vi's expression stiffened. "Am I really pursuing him?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

"Officer Ve is handsome, and he rescued you! If it were me, I'd fall for him too." Dam Uyen Chi covered her mouth and giggled.

"…" Giai Moc Vi thought back. "Is it because he helped me catch that thief at the subway station?"

There wasn't even much money in her bank card.

"Losing your wallet is nothing. It's what's inside that matters." Dam Uyen Chi pulled a small pouch from her bag and handed it to her.

"Here, I found this in your drawer. Why did you leave it lying around? You must carry it and check often."

Giai Moc Vi opened the cloth and found a round badge about the size of a button.

It had twelve sunflower petals around the edges, and in the center was a scale symbolizing justice and peace.

The golden badge lay weightless in her palm.

"The Sunflower Scale badge is extremely important! A lawyer only receives one in their career. You almost had it stolen last time. If Officer Ve hadn't helped you retrieve it, you would have had to write apology and request letters to the Lawyers' Association to get a new one. During that time, without the badge, you wouldn't be allowed into court at all…"

Giai Moc Vi finally understood.

So this tiny "button" was something so important.

Then why don't they make it bigger?

With a diameter barely larger than a thumbnail, it was truly easy to lose.

"… And the information of any lawyer who loses their badge gets publicly announced by the issuing office. It's embarrassing. Clients will doubt whether that lawyer even respects their profession."

A badge represents trust. A profession represents responsibility.

This tiny badge represented all the days and nights she once fought for.

Giai Moc Vi clenched it, placed it near her heart, and said seriously, "I'll keep it safe. I definitely won't lose it again."

After a pause, she asked, "Have you ever lost yours?"

Dam Uyen Chi teared up. "I'm only Lawyer Khuong's secretary, not a lawyer. The judicial exam is too hard, huhu…"

Alright.

Giai Moc Vi now understood the structure of the firm.

One main lawyer, one secretary, and her an intern.

Three people in total.

Not many.

As they reached downstairs

Dieu Tinh Phong suddenly stopped walking, his expression dark and murky like ink.

The two men behind him continued talking, thinking they were helping their boss vent his frustration. "But that lawyer woman was pretty aggressive earlier. Boss, let me teach her a lesson! I'll handle it cleaner than Vu Phong and his crew!"

"No! We're already under scrutiny. We can't afford any mistakes." The other man stopped him.

"I think that lawyer seems to have close ties with someone from Investigation Unit One. We absolutely cannot risk another kidnapping under our real names."

The men continued bickering, but their boss stayed silent.

After a long while

Dieu Tinh Phong looked up at the second-floor law office and muttered, "She looks like someone."

The two behind him asked, "Boss, who do you mean?"

"Giai Moc Vi… she's very similar to someone. Every sentence she says feels like it's setting a trap, luring prey to walk in willingly. That feeling is exactly the same as that person."

"Boss, who is that person?"

Dieu Tinh Phong took a long drag of his cigar and exhaled.

When the smoke faded, the anger, doubt, and suspicion in his expression all condensed into a heavy seriousness.

"The kidnapper from the hide-and-seek game."
