Gyarados understood the contempt in Ace's eyes and instantly flew into a rage.
"Ace, be careful!" Professor Oak had already noticed the danger.
However, Ace was currently standing in the deep-water area on the far side of the lake, a decent distance away from the camp.
The other campers turned toward the commotion as well.
"Don't worry, Professor, I can handle this guy."
Ace waved at Oak from afar, stopping him from throwing a Poké Ball.
"Pfft—!"
Gyarados opened its mouth and spat a spiraling torrent of water, forming a vortex that barreled toward Ace.
Whirlpool — a Water-type special attack with 35 power. It traps the opponent in a vortex, restricting movement and dealing continuous damage.
Seeing this, Ace stopped Ponyta, who was about to rush in, and instead looked at Charmander.
She was also eager to fight.
Feeling Ace's gaze, the flame on her tail flared up.
Ace smirked. "Good. Charmander, use Iron Tail, then Slash!"
"Char!"
Charmander spun, her tail shining as she slashed through the air.
"Whoosh—!"
The Whirlpool split apart, collapsing into harmless splashes. Gyarados's attack was completely neutralized.
"Huh?" Gyarados clearly hadn't expected such a tiny Charmander to cut through its move and froze in place.
"It's still a wild Pokémon that hasn't been trained…" Ace shook his head and waved forward. "Belly Drum, then Dragon Rush!"
Belly Drum — consumes half the user's HP to maximize physical attack for a short duration.
Dragon Rush — a Dragon-type physical attack with 100 power. The user releases a murderous aura before ramming the opponent; may cause flinching.
"Awooo—!"
Charmander let out a tiny dragon roar as her body swelled with power. A cerulean dragon-shaped aura erupted from her and slammed full-force into Gyarados's head.
"BOOM—!"
Gyarados crashed onto the lake surface, completely limp. Charmander flipped and landed, panting heavily.
Splash—
Waves rolled outward. Gyarados floated belly-up, unable to battle.
"So amazing… Brother Ace is so strong!" Chloe cheered immediately.
"Mhm, and Charmander was incredible too~" Serena smiled.
Her bright eyes reflected the sight of the boy and his little partner smiling at each other.
She had seen a different side of Ace today.
"He won easily even with a type disadvantage? And that was a Gyarados…" Green muttered, raising a brow.
Red nodded. "His timing in battle is sharp."
"Great job, Charmander~"
Ace walked over and rubbed her head.
"Char~" Charmander beamed happily.
She suddenly realized that her Trainer wasn't just great during that, but also in battle.
Her feelings for Ace swelled even more.
[Ding, Charmander genuinely recognized her master. Intimacy increased to max value.]
"What?" Ace blinked.
But then—
"Buzz—"
A bright white glow enveloped Charmander's body. The brilliant, gentle light radiated warmth.
"This is…?"
"Charmander is evolving?!" Professor Oak gasped.
She had only been given to Ace yesterday. Logically she should've hatched not long ago…

The system chimed, but Ace was completely focused on Charmander's enlarging silhouette in the light, excitement rising in his chest.
Moments later, the glow faded.
A red, bipedal Pokémon—over a meter tall—stood before him.
Her once-orange skin had deepened in color, her tail was longer and thicker, and the flame burned intensely. A small horn protruded from her head, and her eyes were sharper.

Of course, more than that… he wanted to see what it felt like to play with Charmeleon in this form.
As a Charmander she'd been a bit too small—he couldn't fully let loose.
"But why is Ponyta's intimacy still lower than Charmeleon's…?"
Ace checked the panel. Ponyta's intimacy was at 230—this was after he'd irrigated her into a puff last night.
Even though they went at it for a long time afterward, it didn't rise any further.
"Maybe she has another wish I haven't fulfilled yet?"
He compared it with Charmeleon's evolution. Maybe Ponyta wanted to see him acting decisively as a Trainer.

After calling Charmeleon back, Ace returned to camp with a basket of fish.
Enjoying the amazed looks from the others, he handed them to Serena for preparation.
"Leave it to me~ We'll have an amazing dinner tonight."
Serena tied her apron confidently, ready to show off her cooking.
"Good. Start with this—Chloe and I will go gather more ingredients."
"Okay!"
Ace led Chloe away from camp, walking deeper into the forest.
Rustle—
Dry leaves crackled underfoot. The midsummer sunlight filtered through the trees in scattered beams.
"Brother Ace, where are we going?" The little girl, completely unaware of what was coming, asked innocently.
"Hmm… Looks like there are mushrooms over there. Chloe, go pick some."
Ace pointed toward a fallen tree.
"Oh? These look delicious~"
Chloe said happily, braids swaying as she ran over.
Her blue-and-white floral dress was knee-length, and every time she bent down, her two pale thighs were exposed—perfectly round, tempting curves.
"One, two… eight, nine… Great! Brother Ace, there are eleven big mushrooms!"
"Mhm, Serena can probably make a whole pot of stew with those~"
Ace walked closer casually.
"Mm!" Chloe smiled, carefully placing each mushroom into her pouch.
"Oh, Brother Ace, how do you train Pokémon? Charmander beating Gyarados was just too… huh?"
Chloe paused mid-sentence.
She suddenly felt something was wrong.
She turned—
Ace was already right behind her.
And he was quietly lifting her skirt.
