Lady Sees' words stabbed Ruby exactly where it hurts. Could she not be so… hard to deal with?!
"You are… so right, my Lady." Ruby's voice was sad now, wistful, acting the part of a woman who was burdened by a gift she had never asked for. "No one can see how difficult it is to carry such a weight of expectation. To ensure every prophecy is satisfying enough, or true enough, for the people."
She said it sweetly. Mournfully.
Screw true prophecy, Ruby thought. People only want to hear what they want to hear. Truth was worthless if it did not serve her survival. She needed to live. She needed to take control. She needed to win.
