Chapter 145 - Chapter 145. Hunter

After many days, the school's unique S System finally released information regarding a new special exam.

Who is the prey, and who is the hunter?

In a dark forest, there are five creatures who both hate and cooperate with each other: the Werewolf, the Fox, the Hunter, the Villager, and the Priest.

There is only one person with a special identity in each class. The abilities and missions brought by each identity are different.

Please find the person with the special identity in your class as soon as possible and help them complete their mission.

Additionally, please guard against the "hunting" operations of the other three classes and become the final winner.

Rule 1: Different identities represent different stances. Among them, there might be your companions, or they might all be your enemies.

Rule 2: There are no rules in the dark forest. No contracts will be signed. In this special exam, any contracts made inside or outside the venue are invalid.

PS: Perhaps you can bet on whether human nature is inherently good or inherently evil.

Rule 3: Everything counters everything else; they love and destroy each other. Is "it" really "it"? Please check others' identity cards carefully—check your own as well.

Note: One of the five identities is a Hidden Identity, which is also unique. If you do not have a special identity, you can actively search for that hidden identity and become it.

Result 1: Peacemaker. No one causes any slaughter. Everyone in the dark forest stays completely hidden. The class where the Priest belongs gains 300 Class Points.

Result 2: I Got It. Find your assigned prey and hunt them successfully. The first prey is the most valuable. Gain 100 Class Points.

Result 3: Not Just It, But You Too. Take out a second prey, gain 80 Class Points. Take out a third prey, gain 50 Class Points.

Result 4: Sole Survivor. As the only remaining living person, gain 100 Class Points.

Result 5: Butcher. As a survivor, if you hunt all three other prey, you'll earn 100 Class Points for each one.

Result 6: So... It Can Be Done Like This. (Unknown) As (Unknown), if you successfully (Unknown), gain 100 Class Points and hijack the role, taking away others' rewards.

Result 7: God Said Let There Be Light. As the Priest of Light, after killing the Werewolf or the Fox, you can choose to end the game immediately. You will gain an additional 50 Class Points after the game ends.

Result 8: Do What You Should Do. You perfectly completed the mission assigned to your identity. Gain an extra 50 Class Points.

Your identity is...

...

First Year, Class A.

As soon as the special exam information was released, everyone in Class A gathered around Ichinose. Kohei, who had not been in Class A for long, watched with envy.

Unlike Class B, there were no factional struggles here, no scheming against each other. All the students had only one goal: to defend Class A.

Kohei, who had fought a fierce battle with Arisu Sakayanagi for half a year, felt that Class A finally looked like what a normal high school life should be.

"Everyone, my identity is Ordinary Villager. Who in our class has a special identity?"

Ichinose opened her phone screen and placed the message she just received on the table for everyone to see.

Your identity is Ordinary Villager.

There was only this simple piece of identity information, with no hints about abilities or missions.

Ichinose's urgent task now was to find out who had the special identity, learn about their abilities and mission, and then discuss a strategy with the class.

"I am the special identity in the class, but I don't want too many people to know what my identity is."

Yuki Himeno, sitting to Airi Sakura's right, stood up.

The girl, lollipop in her mouth and with no intention of holding back, offered an opinion that didn't quite fit the group dynamic.

Normally, the whole class would have gathered to join the excitement and find out what their class's special identity was.

Himeno's words made some people frown. It seemed she didn't trust her classmates; maybe she thought someone would betray the class's interests.

"Himeno-san..."

A girl who was usually friendly with Himeno spoke up, about to ask what she meant, but another voice interrupted her.

"I think there's nothing wrong with Himeno-san's approach. The fewer people who know about the special identity, the better."

"It's not that Himeno-san doesn't trust the class, but she's afraid that everyone might accidentally let it slip while chatting with friends from other classes."

"Himeno-san is being thorough."

Ryuji Kanzaki, who had already come to Himeno's side, explained matter-of-factly on her behalf.

Ren had messaged Kanzaki before, telling him to support Himeno in some class decisions.

Himeno and Kanzaki shared the same goal: to make Class A better. Knowing that he wouldn't be isolated in the class openly, Kanzaki was happy to take on this task.

"Mhm... I also think this is safer." Kohei Katsuragi spoke up at this time.

Kohei had experienced betrayal by the radical faction in Class B, so he strongly agreed with Himeno's proposal.

The more people who knew about special identity abilities and missions—things that could affect everything—the more dangerous it became.

One speaker was the vice monitor, and the other was the person Ren had specially poached for Class A.

The girl who wanted to speak earlier fell silent. Everyone turned their attention from Himeno to Ichinose.

No matter what others said, the final decision-maker in this matter was Ichinose.

As the class monitor supported by everyone in Class A, Ichinose had the power of the deciding vote.

"I feel Himeno-san's proposal is very good. Then, Kanzaki-kun, Katsuragi-san, and I will look into the special identity Himeno-san received."

Ichinose didn't consider it for too long before making the decision.

Ichinose's personality had long been changed significantly by Ren. Her indecisiveness and the mindset that she had to cater to the entire class were gradually disappearing.

No student voiced an objection insisting they had to see it. Everyone tacitly dispersed from around Ichinose, leaving ample space for the few of them.

It's often like this: as long as things are explained clearly, it's fine.

There was no need to insist that everyone be involved. As long as people discussed and understood each other, things weren't as troublesome as they seemed.

Relieved, Yuki Himeno opened the message she'd received in front of the three of them.

Your identity is...

Hunter!

Ability — I Found You:

As the only person in the dark forest possessing a firearm, you do not need to know the exact identity of the target.

As long as you confirm that the target's identity is a Special Identity, you can take them out directly.

Note: The Hunter's muzzle cannot be aimed at Villagers. If you accidentally kill a Villager, your hunting rifle will be confiscated by the Villagers.

Mission: Take out the Werewolf and the Fox lurking in the dark forest.
