Cherreads

Chapter 4 - 4 - blind worship

The beast moved though awkward with an underlining of discipline engraved within. It would never walk in random squiggles, not everything had to be in line. Straight neat and in order. It was completely robotic and eerily jerky like it didn't know its own strength.

Is this thing only a baby within its race, wait doesnt that mean there's others- he finally cracked under the pressure. The understanding

-----------

Kade watched its movements, trying to find habits, weaknesses or anything to help understand this ungodly new foe.

After some time, he could pick up on subtle habits or flaws the beast contained

The spider movements were weird, jerking here and there. Cracks formed from too much effort,t; it looked choppy and a bit goofy, taking a bit of its menacing aura away. Though he wasn't about to take it easy, any one of those jerks was enough to split him.

Its ways of doing tasks were even more bewildering. Following an order to move, stop, scan, and continue, if it found something of interest, it would scan it, then fiddle around with it, ending in either a two-way discard or keeping the item.

This beast was a full-on code filled with if statements, and one thing I know about code is that there are always errors, no matter how subtle it was, though this isn't a game, but there are no perfect beings in front of Mother nature.

Taking no chances, he decided to watch it a little longer just to fill the gaps in his deduction.

During this, something else caught his eye, etched on the side of his sack. It was the image of what looks like a humanoid worshipping a spider.

Shedding light onto the story, clanks of chains entered within audible range. The wielder of such items exited the cavern, entered the wide space, then kowtowed to their master.

The race of the being was oddly familiar…- it clicked to him, humans.

This revelation was an overwhelming dread to wash over him, be it caught.

He observed them as one more repulsive than the other.

They look barely human anymore.

Their skin hangs loose, pale and blotched like something kept too long in damp air.

Faint markings spread across their skin, showing signs of inhuman abuse.

Thin strands of web cling to their faces and hair, sticking to their eyelashes whenever they blink too slowly.

Their eyes twitch in different directions, pupils dilated, giving them a jittery, spider-like stare—as if they're trying to see every angle at once.

Their limbs are disturbingly thin, joints jutting out at odd points. The way they stand is worse: knees slightly bent, fingers splayed, backs hunched forward like their bodies are mimicking the creatures they worship. Some of their fingernails have cracked and grown uneven, darkened by dirt, looking almost claw-like.

Their mouths…

Always slightly open.

Always drooling faint strands of saliva, as if their jaws have forgotten how to close properly. When they breathe, it's shallow and clicking, like they're trying to imitate the rhythm of chittering mandibles.

Their clothes—what's left of them—are stained with cave dust and smeared with some dark, amber-like residue. Most wear government tags or broken ID plates around their necks, swinging around like collars on something owned.

Every step they take is hesitant, scraping, as if they're waiting for something to command them. And when they turn their heads, it's too fast, like a spider reacting to vibrations.

Repulsive, obedient, hollow.

Perfect slaves for something that shouldn't be worshipped.

A jarring groan echoed through the cavern. Instinctively, the slaves reacted carrying out the bidding of their master.

Moving in one coordinated assault, they brutally swept the area with robotic efficiency. Reaching crevices the spider couldn't reach and taking items the spider couldn't see.

'fuck they're going to catch me', a feeling of dread overcame him, the thoughts of becoming one of those were haunting.

His time was running out, realising his precarious situation, Kade was forced to plan his next course of action.

But every idea was either going to incur the wrath of the beast or his dying, but among them all, one stood out, though being the craziest, which made him hesitate on choosing it

The loud scurrying of the zombies forced his hand literally.

A gamble of a lifetime. Picking up the glass shard, he waited till one of the zombies got close, then he struck, aiming to injure himself.

It got him right in the gut, instantly causing a flood of blood to pool around the wound. The pain was negligible compared to his past experiences.

Shaking his body uncontrollably for a short while, just enough for one of the slaves to hear him.

They found him, and not wasting any time, it growled to call the rest over. With called hearted efficiency, they dragged the heavy load toward their superior.

As if auctioning off the slaves placed him in a way that left little to the imagination. A hint of shine could be seen in the beast's eyes.

The spider wasted no time putting Kade within its satchel. Blood-soaked it but he had no qualms and carried on with his activities.

Kade lay cramped within the satchel, but a subtle warmth made the place kinda cosy - if he had the energy, he would be praising the beast just to enjoy some much-needed rest.

There it took him- hypnos domain.

Slithering and eerie, Kade woke to darkness. His body felt slimy and gooey all over. Ti felt weird, but not the bad type, rather the one you would welcome with open arms.

The feeling lingered, spreading to every inch; however, fun this way, nature seems to give the cutest things to the deadliest animals. This is one of those times, it strikes comparable to being thrown in a vat of boiling water.

His boy seized, veins bulged, turning and almost dark red shade.

' Pain seems to love me at this point, ' he despaired within his problem as thoughts of the future looked bleak.

The pain seemed to rise, teetering on the stages of complete meltdown. He hated it, and thanks to the constant experiences, his pain tolerance rose; nevertheless, fate showed pity on the poor fellow, cutting his training short, he returning him to a peaceful slumber.

This time, he was in a hall and right in front of him was a door. It resembled a cage with metal bars. sheets of aluminium varying in size to cover the gaps. The thing was rough around the edges, though that could be considered everywhere.

The hall was nothing over top or anywhere near it, as trash could be seen littered across its gravel, conquered this land whilst weeds wandered akin to refuges.

He was lost, wondering why he was here and the fact that he felt some sort of familiarity with it made him all the more baffled. Then it crept to him, slow, deliberate- surfacing only when escape was no longer certain.
