I wake up and assume the headache I have is what a hangover is like. Even though I was asleep I could feel how cold it was. I've been getting to sleep way easier since I got the wand a week ago. On the 10th September 2355 Kaiju boy made his debut and it went great. Mostly. Except for that part where I became a wanted criminal. I haven't made
another appearance since then because I want to figure out a better move. I don't really have a lot of opportunities to practice since if anyone sees me using this I'm basically done. I only get an hour or two to train at the beach when it's mostly empty. That doesn't really give a lot of time to work with, especially
since I don't know of anyone else who can do what I do now. At least in real life. Once again manga proves to be the greatest teacher. Code creatures has been most helpful. As I get ready I think about Satoshi. He hasn't been home in 5 days which is obviously worrying but also convenient given how last week went. This is a bit less stressful for me. I appear to be early again so I should be able to make it to the train on time. The only thing that could stop me would be seeing a child nearly get run over and saving them, only to momentarily consider putting him back after he mistakes me for a child as well and then having a mental breakdown about that all morning. But that would never happen and anyone who says it did is lying. I decide that on the train ride I'll have another go at that 'Kaiju today' podcast.
"I'm saying that this 'Kaiju boy' is a scout meant to help prepare us for alien conquest!" Oh boy.
"Derek please. Why would an alien look almost exactly like a human?" Yay! I'm being kind of defended!
"That's just a disguise. Obviously an alien that can make Kaiju can make a disguise." I don't think I can do that. Well I mean I do put on a disguise as Kaiju boy but not within the context he's using.
"I just feel like that's a very out there assumption. We only have a single video of this guy.".
"Yeah. The video where he could have caused an allergic reaction to dozens of people! Those are the actions of a malicious invader!".
"Honestly that seemed more like incompetence than malice." Exactly! Wait a second.
"Even if we pretend he's not an alien, he's still clearly acting outside government supervision. I may have problems with insect queens attitude but she at least has basic respect for the rules and proper training. That's better than some cosplayer." I feel like it's a little better than cosplay but whatever.
"Oh no he's not on the leash of a corrupt government. How terrible.".
"Again I won't pretend I don't have issues with them but without evidence I won't make accusations. But you know what? I could maybe forgive all of his crimes if he just looked a little cooler. WHY SUMMON JELLO INSTEAD OF A GIANT ROBOT?! His creatures are lame!" Ok that's enough. I turn my phone off and just look out the window. We'll be at the facility soon enough. I can see there's a lot of planes flying past the west wall and into no mans land. Named that because it's mostly populated by Kaiju with only a few human outposts. Mr Ryuji says that the reason the west is underfunded is because expeditions into no mans land are so expensive. Also, in his own words, 'the land lubbers would rather fight literal monsters than even set foot in a puddle'.
"Alright listen up." The instructor says as we all stand at attention in a training room mimicking a desert. Except for Lilith. She's playing furious seagulls on her custom made phone. "You've been assigned to help in the transport of a classified item to an outpost 50 kilometres west." 50 kilometres?! I can barley walk up some stairs without falling over. "You will be split into 2 teams. Decoys and bodyguards. Teams will be formed after I observe this training session. Just know that while I will not be there personally, you will be being observed and graded accordingly. The mission commences in 1 week." We all nod in acknowledgment of this. As the obstacle course begins the trainees huddle around the dummy payload they are meant to transport. The ones who weren't were Lola and boba who were sneaking away while turning invisible. Probably going to scout ahead. Or just fight each other as I've discovered they
quite like to do over the last week. It's kind of like watching a cartoon ball of violence. If it was invisible. So it not really like watching anything. Shen seems to be making a competition out of it with Lilith while the other high ranks try to break them up. I actually get to be a part of this exercise. In that I'm walking behind everyone else waiting for something to happen. Bet they'd be having me doing a bit more if they knew about the wand. Although if they knew about it it'd probably be taken away and I can't have that. This is my chance to be worth something. Also if they do experiments it would probably hurt the kaiju and that would be horrible.
"You should probably keep your head down more." I jump and see Misty standing next to me.
"Um yeah. Thanks." I respond while I crouch down a little bit. The heat makes it really hard to concentrate. "Do you need any healing? I-it's just that your tails look quite warm." I say motioning to her 9 fox tales.
"Hm? Oh nah it's fine. It's more convenient to have them out than not in these situations. Especially this 1." The furthest tail to the right lightly brushes my face and I'm shocked by how cold it is. "As long as I keep this 1 active we should all be fine." I remember what misty's ability is now. It's classified as 'nine paths', each tail grants her a different ability but she can only use 1 at a time. The most confusing thing for most people is that these abilities aren't really related to each other by any sort of theme. Lilith has a lot of abilities but those all fall under the inset classification. I think that's why a rumour started that she's actually a kaiju that takes the power of those she eats. I think it's more likely she's just unique like most high ranks. If people weren't unique the world would be so boring. Misty suddenly raises both her arms and brings them down just as suddenly.
"Jesus Christ you ass!" A male voice I'm well aware of calls out. Lola and Boba both become visible under misty's hands. They aren't as short as me but still pale in comparison to her height. I hadn't noticed the footprints in the sand.
"You 2 should be scouting ahead." Misty says.
"We need healing!" Lola yells out.
"If your healed you'll just get back to fighting—what are you doing?" She asks as I finish healing them. I can't not heal people it's not
right.
"Thanks drug guy!" Boba says before hugging me. I freeze when he does this, I'm a little uncomfortable but it's whatever. They both go invisible again and I assume continue their roughhousing.
"What?" I ask as Misty stares at me. Is something on my face? OH NO DID I DO SOMETHING WRONG?! NO SHES GONNA HATE ME THEN LILITH WILL HATE ME AND THEN EVERYONE WILL HATE ME!
"Nine! Deactivate your tail!" Instructor Audrey orders. Misty hesitates.
"Won't the heat be easier to tolerate like thIs?".
"You'll only be on one team during the mission. I need the other team to be able to handle it without you there.".
"Of course." Misty says quietly as her fox ears droop down. It looks like Lilith is staring at the instructor now, maybe I should do something.
"Bloody hell." I turn around and see someone dragging behind the others. His most distinctive features are his sideburns and the fact that he is WEARING A LEATHER JACKET OVER HIS UNIFORM OH MY GOSH WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?!
"Are you ok?!" I run over to him to heal him because he's got to be so hot right now. I place my hands over him and start healing. I'm starting to get a little tired from it. I could probably do a bit more with the wand but oh well. He stands up straight now and wow what are they feeding these people?! He's 7 feet tall at least!
"Thanks bub." He say while looking down at me. "I'll be fine now. No need to stay with me. I follow my own path." He says while starring
dramatically into the distance.
"Oh um ok. It's just that I don't think your allowed to do that. The instructor would just drag you back.". I'm a little confused but I'll
try to explain.
"The instructors just an obstacle on the road to a true man's home. If she chooses to stand in my way, I'll fight her like any other." I have no idea what he's talking about but I appreciate how confident he seems.
"Drug guy! Number 5 is making this unbearable! Heal us!" Lola shouts as she and her brother run over. They stop when they see the tall man behind me.
"See something you like?" He asks, walking over to Boba.
"You have a great ass." Boba say without hesitation.
"Huh?" Me and the man say at the same time.
"Nice going genius. Smooth." Lola says while giving her brother a nudge.
"Oh please, it's better than you pining for the red head." He says as he nudges back harder.
"I just have a lot of respect for number six is all. Why can't you be more like drug guy? If he was my brother he'd at least be obedient." I feel as if I'm catching a lot of strays recently.
"Don't drag him into this! Just because you're an hour older doesn't mean your in charge!" You know I don't think I've heard them call
someone by their name before. I doubt it's malicious but it's a little interesting.
"Your right. THIS is why I'm in charge!" Lola pounces on her brother and they tumble down the sand to begin another scrap. I never actually healed them.
"My names Haruo by the way." I offer my hand out to try and get the conversation back in track.
"The names Howlett." He responds as he shakes my hand.
"Um, sorry if this is rude but I've never heard of a name like that.".
"And you never will again. There's no one else like me." He faces away from me as he says this. All of a sudden a large buzzing sound pierced my ears. I know that sound. It means an exercise has been failed. I look back to the group only to see most of them are passed out.
"So glad you two could remember the rest of the world. Howlett, drop and give me 500." Instructor Audrey says from behind us. I'm not even going to question how she got there. "Haruo, give me 50." Aw man.
"Why do I have so many less than Howlett? It's my fault we failed!".
"Because there's only so much you can handle" she says as she looks down with an icy glare. She's probably holding a grudge because of last week. Even if Lilith talked to her about it, it's not like she would just forget the whole thing. We both get down and start doing pushups. I'm surprised Howlett did it given how he was talking earlier. I'm even more surprised that he finishes his pushups before I do. Not to out of the ordinary for a proper Kaiju child but still kind of a kick in the teeth. Guess that's why I need the wand. The rest of the day went about the same as it usually does. When training ends I quickly leave the facility and head into zone C so I can get some art supplies before heading home. Hopefully the beach will be empty tonight. As I'm walking out of the shop with my supplies I'm surprised to see Lilith, Misty and 2 of their female friends walking out of the cinema. One had scaly clawed hands while the other had large rabbit ears. Some people tried to keep their distance and not make eye contact while others were gossiping about the celebrities in plain site. Misty seems to be the only one who doesn't take well to the attention. Should I go say hi? I mean apparently we're friends but I wouldn't want to bother them. Yeah I'll just go and let them enjoy their day.
"Haruo!" Or I guess not. Lilith is already flying over. "What's up?" She says as she floats in front of me.
"N-not much." I stutter out quietly. I'd kinda used up my social battery earlier.
"Me and the girls are gonna watch singular bit: the cursed knife. Wanna join?" Is that real or am I being pranked?
"No sorry. I have plans." Her smile fades as I say this. Aw man I didn't want to make her feel bad what did I do?
" by the way. Have you heard about that criminal from last week? Kaiju boy was his name." Wait a second. That's me! Ok stay calm. I need to maintain my cover.
"Fake news." WHAT?!
"Hehe. Good 1." Oh wow that could've gone so much worse. "Surely you've seen him on social media." I had indeed. Opinions weren't exactly positive to say the least, although not as much as Kaiju today was. The main exception was a profile called 'gossip bug' who's rather large following had actually been quite supportive, so that's pretty nice.
"Yeah but I didn't really think about it that much. Whoever he is he probably wanted to help is all I really thought." It's a weird feeling
to defend your alter ego but I guess I'm doing that.
"I don't know. Apparently he's some sort of alien scout meant to conquer us." She says with a smirk.
"He's probably not an alien.".
"He literally said he came from the stars.".
"That probably was just a metaphor.".
"Huh?".
"It's when yo-".
"I know what a metaphor is. But you may be right. After all he doesn't seem like the conquering type. I'm sure he's actually very sweet once you get past the giant monsters. Or he's a threat that needs to be put down. We can't have someone threaten our cities great laws." She starts to look really serious as she says this. She's starting to scare me just a little bit.
"Those seem like 2 very opposing opinions to have on the same guy.".
"Eh, details." And she's back to cheerful. It's good to know that Kaiju boy is 50% on Lilith's good side. Because of our conversation I hadn't noticed that a large crowd had started to gather around us, almost certainly because of Lilith. The main problem here is that they are also staring at me! Lilith just smiles and waves so at least 1 of us is enjoying this. Some of them are even taking pictures! If I was Kaiju boy I'd probably be fine with this but I'm not! I'm just me! I don't want people to stare at me like this! Go away go away go away go away! "Go away." Lilith says with a voice devoid of emotion. The entire crowd immediately scatters. I guess she just holds that much respect.
"Um. Sorry about that." I say while staring at the ground.
"Nothing to apologise for. I should've made them leave sooner." She responds with a smile.
"Lilith! Ready to go in?" The bunny eared girl called over, startling the fairy like girl slightly.
"Yeah I'm coming!" Lilith calls back before turning back to me. "I'll see you tomorrow then?".
"I assume so." I mean we both train at the same place so it's a good guess I feel. After that Lilith flies back over to her friends and I start to walk back to the train station. As long as I keep my head down there I should be there soon. Assuming that nothing else happens. Luckily I can apparently see the future as I'm back in zone W in no time.
"Help!" And there it is. I look to the right and see a surprising sight. A bunch of fish have been knocked to the ground! And slightly more importantly mr Ryuji is being kidnapped by a man in black. Maybe an active kidnapping isn't the best time to joke. Mr Ryuji's female assistant is already calling the police but that'll probably take too long. They don't really have a great track record in these parts. I have to do something. I run behind 1 of the market stands and pull out my wand from my bag before dropping the bag to the ground. I really hope this doesn't draw too much attention. A focus for a second and like magic I'm quickly in the costume. If someone needs help then Kaiju boy will deliver! I have Raven fly us into the air to find the kidnapper,
we spot him almost immediately. Assuming it is a guy. He's going into 1 of the abandoned warehouses, the ones that used to contain all the fishing equipment before that bear attack. Those poor bears. Time for a dramatic entrance!
"Doo du doo!" We crash through one of the windows, Raven protecting me from the glass. "I come from the depths of hell to punish evil doers! I am Kaiju boy!" I announce as I do a pose. Marketing's important. No one responds though, probably because this is an almost empty building. The only person I can see is mr Ryuji laying in the centre of the barren floor, a hole in the roof causing the moonlight to shine solely on him, surrounded by a thick darkness. I immediately run over to him to see if he's alright. Relatively alright for a kidnapping victim of course. He seems to be unconscious with a nasty cut in his forehead. I activate heal and the wound repairs itself pretty quickly. Why would someone do this? I hear a clang come from behind me so I turn around. Raven is standing behind me with a wing raised. It seems he blocked some sort of metal projectile coming towards me. Also I guess Raven can defend me independent of commands so that's neat. I stand in front of mr Ryuji in a defensive manner, getting him to safety should take priority here.
"Good. I wasn't expecting an automatic response. You developed faster than I thought you would." I hear someone say from the darkness. What's surprising to me is that the voice sounds quite young, maybe 15 at most. Is the kidnapper a child?! Is the kidnapper using a child to hide their real voice?! Why is a child here?!
"Well if someone needs saving, I'll even do the impossible." I say with a confident grin. If I don't let him know how scared I am maybe I can get some good info. Doesn't stop the fact that this is TERRIFYING.
"Bravado is all well and good if you can back it up. Can you?" The dark figure leaps out from my left and Raven is just barely able to
stop his knife from hitting me. But a second guy leaps from my right with another knife! I clumsily launch out some gummy bear mater to try and catch him but he just leaps back into the darkness. Why won't these guys just stay still?! Should I have used something different?! I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to do here. A sharp pain appears on my back as I feel myself kicked there, luckily the gummy matter stops me from hitting the ground. I hear metal clangs that I assume is Raven fighting the guy. Ok. These guys are using the darkness to keep me from focusing, so I just need a second to concentrate.
"I've got it!" I say out loud without meaning to. It doesn't matter how sneaky they are if I just hit everyone at once! I'll just have Naga sweep the whole area. I focus for a moment on summoning naga, but a thought stops me in my tracks. What if there are other hostages hidden in the darkness? That hesitation costs me as 2 more guys jump out and pin me to the ground. A knife coming down right next to my face quells all thoughts of resisting. Oh no
oh no oh no.
"If that's all you've got then this clearly wasn't worth it." What is he talking about? "She's going to be quite mad about this. Why couldn't you be better?" What? I only became Kaiju boy because I wanted to be better! Am I really still not good enough?! If even an actual magic wand can't make me worthwhile then what's the point?!
"I'm just getting started!" I yell back before my head is slammed back into the ground. Is he gonna kill me?! Is he gonna kill mr Ryuji?!
What'll happen to my Kaiju if I die?!
"I really wish that was true. But you've had a week and you've barley done anything. We need someone better than you. Stick to healing in the next life." Who's 'we'? As in these guys or someone else? Also is this a
fight or a lecture from commander Audrey? ALSO also, NEXT LIFE?! He is gonna kill me! No no no no no I don't wanna die yet! I had so much I wanted to do!
"What are you even talking about? What do you need someone for? Why kidnap an innocent man for it? How do you know I heal?".
"I guess if we're playing that game it's because I just saw you do it to the old guy." Oh right. That makes sense. "As for the kidnapping thing, I'm aware it's generally frowned upon but I thought maybe it would push you to some new height. But maybe your more heartless than I thought.".
" what did you just say?".
"We need someone who can help save life on this planet. Someone who can't push past their limits to save someone they care about clearly isn't up for the job.". My hands start shaking. Is he saying I don't care enough?
That I'm some heartless hero wannabe? "So I guess all that's left now is to tie up loose ends." Another man walks into the light. This one is shorter than the rest but I'd guess he's still half a head taller than me. From what I can tell in this lighting he's got brown skin and black hair, making his green eyes all the more distinctive. The other thing I noticed though was that he was a kaiju child. He has cat ears on the top of his head and a cat tail. Plus a third, amber eye on his forehead. I feel like I've seen him somewhere before. There's so much tonight that I don't understand. But if there's one thing I know for sure, it's that he's definitely 15.
"What do you mean 'loose ends'?" I ask even though I think I already know. He raises a knife over mr Ryuji's unmoving body. "Stop." I have to do something. I need to save him. But what can I do with the knife already coming down? "I said stop!" As I yell a huge amount of tree branches launch out of the wand, reaching out in every direction of the warehouse. All the knife guys make near impossible leaps to avoid being struck, even the short one.
"Ok. This is better." Although I'm barely listening as I stand up.
"Listen up. I'm not going to say I'm the best. I know I'm not. I'm dumb, any written test I take is basically doomed on arrival. I love Kaiju despite everyone else hating and fearing them. Not only that but I'm socially awkward, you put me in a conversation and I'm already counting the exits. But even a guy like me can tell you that hurting someone who hasn't done anything to you, just to achieve your own goals, is something only cowards do! And I will not lose to a coward!" I stand firm as I prepare myself for his next move.
"Where did this backbone suddenly come from? I won't deny I've been underhanded, but what does it matter? As long as the right thing is done in the end." 2 men rush in front of me, ducking under a thick branch as they brandish the sharp knives that have become their defining feature. I have Raven grab them both by the face and slam them to the ground, the kaiju's superior strength likely knocking them out. It's fine I can heal them later. A third hops over Ravens back but they clearly underestimated it. Raven simply launches itself into the air with its wings, doing serious damage to the knife guy. I summon Naga to begin my original plan. I likely would've noticed the branches hitting something non metal if there were other hostages here. That means I can have Naga go wild. And go wild they do, smashing through branches and knocking away any knife guys it gets near. It's rainbow scales also start to glow in the dark, making it a lot easier to track these guys. I'm learning so many things my kaiju can do today. I also make sure that Naga doesn't use its necrosis ability, that'd be too cruel to use on people. Lastly I have the remaining branches start moving by themselves, wrapping up any guy they come into contact with, the trees teeth digging into
them slightly. The short leader comes at me from above, trying to slash my chest, luckily the adrenaline I'm on let's me just barley dodge and step back.
"You know, if your willing to do whatever it takes to win, how embarrassing is it gonna be when you lose anyway?!" I exclaim with a big
smile. I instinctively summon something from my wand, a 60 foot tall tiger with lightning for stripes and what looked like a skull for a helmet. Just it emerging had torn the roof off. Electricity started flying everywhere, even with me directing it not to hit me, my kaiju and mr Ryuji it was still a big effort. To his credit, while his goons were shocked the short guy had managed to dodge the bolts of electricity in a fantastic show of agility. I'm really surprised I haven't seen him at the facility.
"Ok! Ill admit I'm impressed. You get a gold star! But you'll be out of juice soon. Then this is over." He's not wrong. I'm running real low
on energy and if I run out, he wins. But I won this fight 10 seconds ago. I had Raven hover in the new open air created by Thundercat, and this guys jumped right into the trap. Even the most agile of creatures will be a little limited in the middle of the air, so it's no surprise that he couldn't dodge Ravens mighty punch to his head, helped by the weight of the metal covering its body. His body crashes into the ground below, cracking it, and when the dust settles I can see that he's been knocked unconscious.
"A gold star would be nice thanks." I mutter out as I sit down. Im just barely keeping the costume on with the little energy I have left.
"Thank you everyone." I sincerely say as I return the kaiju into the wand. Looks like I got a new 1. A little rowdy but still a big help. No clue how I got it but it's not like I understand any of this anyway. With the roof now gone the moonlight illuminates the entire area so I can see all his guys. There appears to be 6 of them overall, not counting their leader. But as soon as I catch my breath I see something surprising. I hadn't noticed because of the lighting but all of these guys have the same cat ears and tail as their boss. What's even more surprising was that they were dissolving! Turning into black dust that flew into the boss. Were they clones? Is that his ability? I know we've seen cloning kaiju before so there's no reason a Kaiju child can't do it but still. I've never seen it before.
"What?" Mr Ryuji says as he starts to regain consciousness. His eyes immediately go wide as he spots me. "You!" He tries to take a swing at me but misses. Probably because he just woke up. "What do you want with me ya damn fairy god mother looking wacko?!" That's a new 1.
"I just want to get you back home sir. That man over there took you, but I beat him with the power of friendship." And a bunch of monsters but that's just friendship with extra steps.
"You expect me to believe that?! I've seen what the landlubbers say about you!" Yeah that's kinda fair.
"Well the 'landlubbers' are idiots who can barley get into a kiddie pool." That seemed to calm him down a little bit. At least as calm as he could ever be.
"Well your not wrong there. I guess I'll believe you." Wow I'm great at this.
"Just wait here while I deal with this guy, someone will be here to pick you up shortly." I slowly stand up as I say this.
"I owe you one for this. You ever stop by W again, I'll feed ya on the house." Score! Mr Ryuji's the one who taught me how to cook. Well actually he taught me Japanese and then I'd watch him cook for customers until
he yelled at me to 'scram before I cook you next!' But that's basically the same thing. I walk over to knife guy to heal him, yeah he's a jerk but he doesn't need to die. It's a little hard to find him though given all the snow and the trees. Wait what?
"HOLY CRAP ITS SO COLD!!!" I look around frantically but all I can see for miles is snow and trees. Is this a kaiju attack? Some sort of
illusion or environmental control? I turn back around and run to see if mr Ryuji is here. But even after a full minute of running I still can't find him. And I know I went in the right direction, so my best guess is that this is an
illusion. I bring out Raven and have it fly us into the air. It'll be easier to see if we're in the air. It seems like this entire forest is surrounded by mountains, ones that make the ones to the west look like pebbles. "Well I guess it's better than nothing." We spend 20 minutes flying for miles and over the mountains but every time we do there's just more forest and mountains beyond that. How on earth am I gonna get home?! Am I ever gonna see my house again?! "Wait. What is that?" I mutter as I see an orange light among the trees down below. Yes! Someone! We descend down through the trees, Ravens wide frame snapping quite a few branches along the way. I give it a few pats on the back
to comfort it. Not sure if it needs comfort but might as well. I quickly spot the source of the orange light, a small cottage in the middle of the woods, like something out of a fairytale. When we land I get ready to return Raven to the wand but it starts shaking its head in disapproval. I smile gently and pet it on the head, which is a weird feeling given that its head is covered by a thick layer of steel. "It'll be ok buddy. If anything happens you'll be the first I summon.". This seems to appease Raven for now as it looks ready to return to the wand. So of course I do. It wouldn't have fit in the cottage anyway. As I get closer I can hear violin music and cheering coming from inside. I'm not sure what's in there but I'll be ready for anything. I slowly open the door and peak inside. "I am in no way ready for this." I whisper as I take the sight in.
"Come on everyone! They'll be here in an hour! We've got to hurry! Daisy don't you dare eat those biscuits you know they aren't yours!" A nearly 2 meter tall woman is commanding a dozen white mice in jumpers. The mice are working together to cook food, clean the floor and even setting up decorations. Not gonna lie I probably wouldn't eat food if a mouse made it but I guess that just shows my prejudice. The other interesting thing is of course the woman
herself. She has blue hair that turns purple as it touches the ground, pink eyes and sharp teeth. Oh and wings. Large turquoise wings coming out from her back. Her other avian features were her arms that looked like a mix between talons and human hands. Her outfit was a simple white dress, the only notable thing about it is that there seems to be a massive claw mark on the side of it. One of the mice points at me like a human would which kinda threw me for a loop. The lady turned around and when she saw me everyone froze.
"Um, hello." I say trying to be polite. As soon as I do though all the mice scatter into holes in the walls. I guess the cartoons are
accurate.
"Oh wow. And who might you be?" She asks in an accent I can't quite place. She gestures for me to come inside and I do.
"Kaiju boy." I say. I probably shouldn't give my actual name. She seems a little amused by this.
"Well my names louhi." She says as she uses a wing to push the door shut.
"Louhi? I've never heard of a name like that before." I say as we both sit down at the table in the centre of the cottage.
"It is rather rare these days isn't it?" It feels like she's trying to analyse me. It's the look in her eyes. "So. May I ask what your doing here? I haven't seen you around before. And I feel like I'd remember someone like you." She says with a confident smirk. Her sharp teeth becoming apparent.
"I was wondering the same thing. 1 moment I'm trying to heal this cat guy and then the next I'm here. And temperatures making me think this isn't an illusion." Her eyes go wide as I explain this.
"Did this 'cat guy' happen to have 3 eyes?".
"Yeah he did. How do you know about that?". All of a sudden
she has a massive look of joy on her face.
"I can't believe he found 1!" She exclaims as she reaches over the table and pulls me into a hug. It's pretty uncomfortable. "Oh I'm so glad you're here! Thank you so much for accepting! Your going to do so well I just know it!" She's talking rapid fire at this point. I kind of just wait until she's finished. Eventually she does let go.
"Um, I'm really sorry but I have no clue what your talking about." It looks like her brain short circuited after hearing that.
"Huh?".
" yeah." THIS IS SO AWKWARD!
"Then how are you here?" She stares at me perplexed. I just shrug my shoulders in response, not like I've got any clue. Something seems to click in her mind when she spots the wand. I instinctively hide it in my cape. "That's new. I've never seen anything like that before. Where did you get it?".
"Well it all started when I found this super illegal heart." I proceeded to explain most of what happened, leaving out certain details that could reveal who I am. She listened intently to every word.
"Wow. I am so sorry about that. I promise you he would never have done all of that if I knew.".
"Wait, how do you know knife guy?".
"He's my… what's the word? Subordinate I think it is." Subordinate. As in he works for her. Wait a second.
"THE HECK LADY?!" I shout and point at her.
"I said I'm sorry!" She says as she puts her hand up in a panic. Aw man now I feel kinda bad. "Like I said, I had no idea he was doing
any of that. I thought he was gone." She's starting to look quite embarrassed.
"Well what was he meant to be doing?!".
"It was a super special secret hush hush mission." Well damn I guess I can't know. But I think I still have 1 more weapon.
"I'll let you look at the wand if you tell me.".
"I sent him to new London to scout out potential recruits to save the world. Now gimme!" I am a master manipulator. So why do I feel guilty. I let her have a look but never take my hands off the wand. "This is incredible. I've never seen anything quite like it.".
"Mind explaining it to me? I barley understand this thing." She looks at me with a sparkle in her eyes.
"It's like a hyper optimised Kaiju cell manufacturing factory." Ok. "It's somehow bonded to you and through that link gains blueprints from your mind." Starting to lose me a little bit. "It then takes energy from the nearest available source, in this case you and uses that to create the things from those blueprints, projecting them into the outside world." REALLY STARTING TO LOSE ME. "But even that doesn't get into how it can somehow store all that organic matter back into itself while maintaining the memory of so many Kaiju. Can you please join us?!" What is she even talking about?! I feel like I'm a Kaiju nerd myself but even I can't keep up with this lady.
"What exactly would I be joining?".
"As the winter witch it's my duty to find heroes who can help me save the world." WITCH?! She stands up and places her right hand on her chest. "There's a big threat coming, and if it achieves its goal, humanity will never recover. From what I can see you very well could be a hero who can stand up to this threat." She thinks I can be a hero?! What threat?!
"That's a lot to take in. What is this threat your trying to stop?" That seems like the most reasonable place to start.
"It's name is lord star-fall. And If it regains its full power then humanity will become uncontrollable monsters and destroy each other." Damn. Someone needs to stop this guy.
"And do you really think I can be a hero?".
"Yes. Now I understand you may need some time to consider.".
"I'll do it." I answer immediately.
"Wait really?" She looks surprised. I wonder why.
"My entire life I've let people down. I was born with a weak ability and because of that I can't be what I'm supposed to. But with this wand
I can finally do it! So if you need me to be a hero then I'll do it!" I stand up and place my hand on my chest as I say this.
"Well I'm glad to see your so enthusiastic. I look forward to working with you." Louhi answers with a smile. We shake hands to seal the deal. "For now just continue defending new London from evil ok? I know you can do it. I know things might be awkward between you but please watch over Allister for me. I feel like if he's left alone he'll do something drastic by himself again. Oh and remember that your not summoning Kaiju your making them, so stop limiting yourself. We'll talk more next time you visit ok?" She starts talking rapid fire again and I do my best to keep up.
"Wait what do you mean visit again? How do I get back?" I ask the most obvious question I can think of.
"By waking up of course! Your not really here after all. You just connected with me through magic." She answers with a wink.
"Wait do you mean literal magic?" I ask.
"I dunno. Probably." Knife guy answers. Wait. KNIFE GUY?! I frantically look around and see I'm on the hill leading up to my house. I seem to be sitting by a tree. And knife guy is sitting in front of me, all three eyes staring at me. I realise I'm in my normal clothes and reach for my wand, transforming back into Kaiju boy. As I do he makes his move.
"I am deeply sorry for my actions this evening." He says while on his hands and knees. "I acted rashly to make up for my failure to the winter witch. When you summoned that device I saw it as a chance at redemption. I hope you'll allow me to stay by your side so I may help you." What the what?
"Oh um, ok. Glad to have you on board." I guess if he's sorry then it's fine.
"Then I shall take my true form to better hide myself." He suddenly shifts and contorts his body for a split second before taking on his
new form. A small black cat with a third eye.
"YOU WERE THE CAT?!!".
