Chapter 19 - Insanity 3: A Mechanical Heart (9)

As time went by, I began to forget.

The reason I created a humanoid robot. A goal I had to achieve.

A lot of money and effort had been poured into it.

In fact, I didn't hesitate to treat other humans as experimental subjects. Many lives had been lost because of it. I kept looking forward without looking back. And I began to forget.

Why did I create it?

To others, my life seemed easy. I was born into a wealthy and highly educated family. No one dared to look down on me. But even so, they would gossip behind my back.

But what did I care? They had nothing to do with me.

But even so, it still bothered me. At first, it was just teasing. But gradually, threats

began to arise, and even dangerous attacks.

To ensure my safety, I hired a bodyguard. I'm just an ordinary researcher, but I have a bodyguard—isn't that excessive? That's what everyone around me must have thought.

But what did I care? As long as my life wasn't threatened, it didn't matter to me.

I had achieved many accomplishments, and I was known as a brilliant young scientist. Thanks to all my efforts, I received a promotion. And with my family status and achievements, I easily became the leader of Valley Science Technology.

Despite all the applause and praise, somehow something felt empty. And then I met her. A woman who didn't look at me because of my status. Someone who saw me for who I was.

Ah, so this was the feeling I was looking for.

Love.

Being born into a wealthy family and having everything didn't mean I had love. The cold, forced affection of family. That was what made me empty.

But now, in front of her, that feeling disappeared. Just seeing her smile warmed my heart. Although it was difficult at first, we were finally able to live together. Together with our beloved little daughter.

But that sometimes made me forget that not all humans are good. The traitors who were eyeing my position were slowly starting to show their fangs.

Because my demeanor was soft, I didn't realize their presence and intentions.

It was a busy day. I hadn't been able to go home for two days. But with their support, my fatigue disappeared.

But I never imagined that would be the last smile I would see from either of them.

That night, my daughter called me. Her voice was muffled, but I could hear a commotion. My daughter's cries rang out, and she begged me to come home.

A feeling of unease gripped my heart. I hurried home.

That night, it was raining heavily. When I opened the door, there wasn't a smile to greet me.

Instead, I saw a bloodied body and a face full of pain. I hugged them and tried to wake them up. But nothing happened.

In the midst of that despair, a thought crossed my mind. Humans are treacherous creatures. No one can be trusted.

Even my wife and daughter, they both betrayed me. They said they would always be with me. They would smile to keep me from being sad. But now they were gone, leaving me in agony.

In that deep anger, something was wrong.

Instead of crying, I laughed.

They think they can bring me down by killing my family? I will find them and make them suffer the same pain.

With my power, I can easily find them. And whatever I do to them, no one will dare reveal it. I slaughtered the perpetrators right in front of their families. But simply killing them didn't satisfy me.

Then, I looked at their families. Gazes filled with hatred and anger were directed at me.

Was my expression like that back then?

What about now? Yes. My expression was different now.

I saw that some of them had children the same age as my daughter. I looked at the perpetrator with a wide smile.

"You may be useless, but they will be useful to me." I pointed at his family.

"What... What are you going to do to them?!!"

"Just like you did to my little daughter. But don't worry, they won't die in vain."

"What are you—"

"Hey, humans are traitors, right? If I kill you, they might retaliate against me too. Yes, I've experienced that."

"But what if I create obedient humans?"

His eyes stared at me as if to say, 'What is this madman talking about?'

"Yes. A robot with a human soul."

"They will behave like normal humans. But they won't be able to betray the person giving the order."

"Isn't that a great idea?" A smile spread across my face.

"And they will be useful for that."

A crazed expression reflected in his desperate eyes.

"No!! Don't do anything to my family!!"

"Hey, calm down. What can you do with your severed arms and legs?"

I laughed.

"Hey, take them all." My men carried out the order.

"Stop!! Stop that!! You devil! You're mentally ill!!"

"Yes. You're right, my soul is sick. And you're the one who did it."

Above his suffering. And my own.

"No, please!! I beg you, at least let them go!!"

Hearing that plea made my head boil.

"Goodbye."

Without mercy, I conducted research that I named 'Absolute Childe'.

Not only did their families betray me, over time, because the experiments always failed, ordinary citizens also became victims.

Thanks to that, I now have a new nickname, Mad Scientist.

Yes, I really am mentally ill. Through that experiment, I thought maybe I could be with my daughter again.

And after about twenty years, the project finally succeeded.

A group of machines with feelings. A face that looked exactly like my daughter now appeared before me. Inside the glass tube, I waited for her to call me Father.

But that didn't work either. My years of struggle were in vain. Those damn people didn't understand anything.

Why did this have to happen?

Meeting her again, the father she recognized wasn't me. The command transfer failed.

Why?

The sound of the mechanical heartbeat still rang clearly in my ears.

Rather than living like this, I'd rather end it now.

"Stop the car. I'll get off here."

"But, sir, it's dangerous!"

"If you don't want to die, leave."

Amidst the cold snow, a wave of heat began to be felt.

"I'm sorry I couldn't be a good father."

"With my dirty hands, surely you don't want to see me, right?"

"In the next life, I hope you meet a good father."

Tears began to flow from his eyes.

"I'm sorry."

A massive explosion destroyed much of the area.
