Panic shot through me at Kirk's words.
Days locked up in this room, choking down the same tasteless meals with no glimpse of sunlight—my chest felt crushed, like I couldn't draw a proper breath.
This had to be Toby's game plan: break me down mentally before whatever came next.
The bedroom went dead quiet after Kirk walked out.
I pushed aside the food he'd dropped off and leaned back against the headboard, staring up at the crystal chandelier while memories of Morris flooded my thoughts.
'Morris, are you coming for me?' The question burned in my mind.

Toby knelt beside an unmarked grave, placing fresh flowers at its base with practiced movements. His eyes held that faraway look, like he was lost in old memories.
