Everyone made their way up to the room. She wasn't the only one living on the third floor. Her parents also lived on the third floor. Aurelia couldn't live on the second floor because the rooms there were already occupied.
She didn't mind living close to her parents. She would spend most of her time at school anyway.
They arrived at the door to her actual room, and her mother opened the door. She actually liked the room. They said neutral, but it was a blend of black and white. She expected something like yellow.
She looked at the door to the left of the room. The light streamed in through the open window, and she could see the colour of the bathroom. She understood why her mother made that face. The bathroom was a gaudy pink.
She looked at her father, wondering what he was really thinking when he made that choice. She could only sigh. She wanted to pretend she liked. Let's see what happens.
"I like this. It's better than the empty one."
She still couldn't help striking at this time. She walked inside, looking at the silk sheets on the bed. Luckily, there was an air conditioner in the room. She couldn't imagine having to sweat on silk sheets.
She opened drawers and found that there were actually things in them. She saw different kinds of jewellery. She saw books, blank and otherwise. She even saw one on dungeon basics.
It seems her parents expected her to go to school.
She moved on to the closet where she saw an assortment of clothes with different styles. She saw a few that she absolutely loved. She couldn't wait to try them.
"Love it! Definitely love it!"
Only after speaking did she realise she said it out loud.
She didn't bother to act sheepish, "I like the room, I really do. I'm sure you can tell."
"It's alright," her mother comforted her. "We'll leave you to look around. You can go get your things from the empty room."
"You have evaluations to do tomorrow. I don't think we told you. So I think you'd better get settled for today so you'll be ready for tomorrow."
Whitney, her mother, looked around at her husband. If looks could kill, he would be dead.
"Ignore your father. He doesn't know when to relax. We'll leave you alone."
After everyone left, Aurelia thought about what they had mentioned before. She didn't know whether to be happy or resigned. She knew what her results would be. She had E-rank potential. Even if she went to the school, she would end up being cannon fodder.
But she didn't want to disappoint them. Plus, that's when the story starts. Her idol will be at the school. How could she not go? Even if she only got to see him once, she would take the risk.
The mood to look around had passed; now she just wants to lie down and sleep for a while. Someone would call her for dinner. Before that, she had to go get her bag.
She quickly went to get her bag. Sleep was calling, and she needed to heed the call. She might get to dream about her dream man before seeing him at school. Her mood improved as she collected the bag and went back to her room.
As soon as she opened the door, her mood soured. Eve stood there with her necklace in her hands.
"You already stole my family, and now you want to steal the family heirloom?"
Eve jumped, hiding the necklace behind her.
Aurelia didn't want to play games with her. She dropped her bag and grabbed Eve. Whether she left bruises or not wasn't her concern. The necklace was hers, and she would be damned if she let Eve have it.
She turned her around, watching her hand grip the pendant tightly. She noticed one of her fingers wasn't clasped around the pendant. She grabbed it and bent it, forcing Eve to release it.
Just before it fell, Aurelia caught it.
She pushed Eve out of the room, slamming the door as she left.
Sleep wasn't going to come again. Anger formed in the pit of her stomach. She didn't want to have to deal with this girl right now. She already knew what kind of problems she would deal with at that school. This place was supposed to offer peace and quiet, but it seems even that is a luxury now.
She looked at the pendant in her hand, wondering why Eve wanted it. Knowing the heroine, there must be something special about it.
Knowing that, her mind won't let her rest. She needed to know what it was. If there was even a remote chance she could get an advantage, she wanted it. But no matter what way she moved the pendant, she couldn't see anything.
Maybe... No, that couldn't be it. Aurelia thought about ancient times when people would use blood as a condition for family, no matter how loyal the person might be. Blood was everything.
She looked at the pendant again.
She really didn't feel like bleeding. Especially if she is bleeding for no reason. Even if she wanted to bleed on the thing. She didn't have anything in the room that she could use.
She put on the necklace. She decided to give it a try later that night when everyone was asleep.
She went to bed and closed her eyes. Before she could fully relax, she heard a knock at the door.
Here it comes!
She opened the door to see everyone there, and Eve in tears.
"Let me guess, I came to her and harmed her because she wanted to see the necklace? Or did I drag her into my room to berate her for stealing my family?"
Aurelia waited for whatever it was they wanted to say. Her indifferent eyes scanned each of them, waiting for the challenge. She wouldn't mind putting them in their place.
Hearing what she said, they stood there awkwardly because Eve did say something similar.
"Yo-you did hurt her, didn't you?" Kieran found the courage to ask.
"I did."
There were looks of shock to varying degrees. Maybe they didn't expect her to admit it.
"She came into MY room, without MY permission, trying to steal MY things. Am I not allowed to stop a thief?" Everyone was quiet.
She pulled out the pendant. At some point, they both stuck together. Aurelaia didn't care how. She already thought they were meant to be together. She was in someone else's body. Why can't two pendents fuse?
"This is what she tried to take. Did you actually want to give it to her?"
She took the necklace off and handed it to her mother.
"If you want to give it to her, then do it. It doesn't make sense to give it to me if she can take it."
Her mother didn't reach for the necklace. Instead, she pushed her hand away. "Keep it. This was meant for you. Nobody but you should have it."
She then looked at Eve, "Eve, you've been my daughter for eighteen years. You have never wanted for anything. Why do you think you should take the gift I gave Aurelia?"
Eve didn't know what to say. She thought everyone would take her side. That's the way it's been all her life. She didn't expect it to change now. She looked at her family members. None of them stood up for her.
She ran back to her room. As she ran, she thought to herself, It's not supposed to be like this.
They watched Eve run away. None of them knew what to say to Aurelia. This was something new for all of them.
"It's fine. If you don't mind, I would prefer to have dinner in my room. And I'll see everybody tomorrow, okay?"
They nodded and left.
