Cherreads

Chapter 16 - Merciless

Red scanned the group, thinking of his next step. He could just give up the rabbon since they were easy to catch. There was no need to take an unnecessary risk to fight armed goblins.

He might be stronger than them, but it didn't matter with the weapon in their hands. They just needed to land one or two hits, and he might fall. He didn't doubt them that if a fight broke out, they would try to kill him, not just take his prey.

Giving up his prey was the most sensible choice in this scenario. He lowered the five rabbon and was about to throw it down to the ground. Even if he wanted to give up his prey, he would throw the rabbon away from where he stood before running away.

He was not that stupid to hand it over to them when they could surround and strike him. However, he held the five rabbon's ears tightly and didn't throw them down.

Red changed his mind when he thought of another possibility. The possibility that this group, or maybe more kids, would wait for him and take his hard work instead.

It was bound to spread that they were taking his prey. The others would join them just to pick on him. He was confident about it. That was what would happen if he gave in right now. That was why he changed his mind.

"Heh, why don't you take it from me?"

He chuckled and taunted them. For the kids who never experienced what he experienced, they would fall to his taunt easily. At the same time, his free hand was on his back, holding his broken spear.

The six goblins looked surprised, not expecting that Red would respond like that. The goblin with the curved blade was the first one to charge at him. He was so mad that Red refused him that he charged at him by himself.

Red waited for this stupid goblin to get closer. When this goblin was like three or four meters from him, he threw the five rabbon at the charging goblin.

That caught the goblin off guard. He subconsciously raised his hand to block the rabbon thrown at him. That gave Red a big opening.

Red started to move when he threw the rabbon. He quickly closed the gap and arrived in front of the goblin. His hand was already moving with the broken spear, and the spear pierced the side of the goblin's neck.

The goblin released his grip on the blade and clutched his neck that was pierced by the spear. His eyes were wide open in horror, in disbelief that Red stabbed him.

Red didn't stop there; he pulled the spear and kicked the goblin down. The goblin was easily on the ground on his back. He swung the broken spear downward and pierced the goblin's chest.

The broken spear went in; a big part of the spear was inside the chest. When he tried to pull it, the worn-down shaft broke apart.

At this moment, the remaining five goblins were already charging at him, following their leader. But they were too late.

Red didn't panic even though his spear broke apart. He grabbed the curved blade and ran to the tree. He was much more agile and faster than they, so he quickly disappeared behind the tree.

The five goblins were enraged that one of them had been killed. They chase after Red instead of taking the five rabbon on the ground.

Two of them were holding a dagger, another had a similar blade to the one in Red's hand right now, the fourth had a shield and a hatchet, and the fifth had a hatchet as well.

The one who led the charge was the two goblins with a rusty dagger. They had lighter weapons than the other three, making them quicker than the rest.

They thought Red tried to run away and didn't think much but to give Red a chase. They wanted to kill Red for killing their friends.

However, Red never tried to escape. He was hiding behind the tree, and the sound of footsteps got closer. He swung the blade blindly.

Of course, he made sure to bring the blade low enough since his enemy was short. The two goblins saw the glint of the blade, and it shocked them.

The closest goblin to the tree was the unlucky one as the blade cut through its neck. Its head flew into the air as the blood sprayed. That shocked the second goblin as it tried to move away from the blade.

The second goblin was in shock and didn't really pay attention to where he was going. He was the second unlucky goblin as he tripped on the bulging root and fell on his back.

Red jumped at the second goblin and pierced the second goblin's chest, not just once, but three times. Blood poured out from those holes, dampening the ground with blood. His mouth was gurgling, and blood came out of his mouth.

Red immediately changed his focus to the remaining three goblins. He grabbed the rust dagger and threw it at the closest goblin, the one that had just hatched.

That shocked the third goblin with a hatchet, but not just him; the one behind him was also shocked and halted their chase.

The dagger hit the third goblin. Red realized that throwing a dagger and a stone were totally different. He needed more practice in throwing a dagger because the third goblin was hit by the dagger's handle, not the tip of the dagger.

However, that was enough to create an opening for him. He was already in front of the third goblin, who panicked over getting hit by the dagger's handle that bounced off his body.

Red swung the blade to the neck. He was in a hurry and didn't get a clean cut like the first goblin. However, that was enough to cut open the third goblin's throat.

Blood sprayed out as he released the hatchet, clutching his neck as he fell to the ground. Another one down.

Red didn't bother to finish the third goblin off as he changed his target. There were two more goblins that were still standing. The one with a similar blade to his, and the one with a shield and hatchet.

The one with the blade was standing silly, in fear as he witnessed how his three friends fared against Red.

The one with the shield managed to catch up. Even though he was the one with the shield, he came last because the shield was too heavy. The last goblin was catching his breath, not knowing what had happened.

Red knew that he had won the fight. If he did nothing, they would run away from him. That was just the nature of these kids. They would not fight after seeing their friends killed like that.

However, Red made a decision not to spare them. These kids would create trouble for him if he left them be. They might bring more of the kids to gang up on him. They might lie about him attacking them first to the tribe.

Even though the tribe didn't prohibit killing or fighting to the death outside the tribe. That would make it harder to raise his status in the tribe. That old Shaman would not let that kind of chance to slide, and he might be in a worse situation.

A decision was made, and he jumped at the goblin with a shield. The goblin raised his shield while catching his breath.

Red didn't swing his blade against the shield. He went for pure strength with his kick on the shield.

Bang!

That kick sent the goblin tumbling backward, and the goblin, the blade already abandoned, his last friend. He already ran away, exposing his back.

Red ignored the shield-bearer and chased after the fleeing goblin. He was much faster than the running goblin with his longer legs. It didn't take much for him to catch up.

He stabbed the goblin in the back of the neck, which immediately stopped the goblin from moving. It tumbled forward while clutching his neck.

Red pulled off his blade and turned around. The last goblin, the shield-bearer, no longer had a shield. The last goblin threw his shield and hatched, then ran in the opposite direction.

Red made up his mind not to spare a single one. He immediately chased after the last goblin. It was an easy chase. He caught the last goblin and slit his throat.
