Chapter 23 - Su Cheng’s Transformation

After Su Cheng absorbed the soul ring produced by the Cloud-patterned Copper-horned Rhinoceros into his martial soul, it didn't take long before faint anomalies began appearing around him.

Under Qian Renxue's shocked and worried gaze, sword-mark-like shadows surfaced on Su Cheng's bare upper body.

But these sword marks did not seem to be physical, nor was there any blood. They looked more like a kind of manifestation.

The sword-shadow marks gradually increased.

Moments later, faint traces of fragmented sword qi began to leak outward from his body.

These strands of sword qi were chaotic and disorderly, drifting around like headless flies being driven about, yet none of them ever flew farther than three feet away from Su Cheng's body. They only appeared and disappeared irregularly, without any pattern.

But as time passed, after more than half an hour, the originally scattered sword qi gradually began to condense.

Those countless strands of fine sword qi slowly gathered into more than ten small, transparent swords, each just over three inches long, rotating around Su Cheng's upper body. The sight was extremely beautiful.

This scene left Qian Renxue utterly confused.

Normally, when a soul master absorbs a soul ring, if the energy within the soul ring exceeds their tolerance, it is possible for unusual phenomena to appear due to energy overflowing.

But Su Cheng's body at this moment was seated upright, his torso firm and steady like a boulder, showing no sign of forceful endurance. This clearly indicated he could easily control the energy within him right now.

And the changes appearing at this moment obviously had something to do with Su Cheng's martial soul. These sword qi manifestations were not ordinary energy leakage.

Qian Renxue suddenly froze, a flash of insight crossing her mind—

"Martial soul awakening?!"

But she quickly shook her head, denying her guess.

"No… this isn't a second martial soul awakening."

She had read records in ancient texts about the re-awakening of certain special martial souls. The phenomena described were far from this calm.

"How strange…"

Although she was worried, she was not panicking.

Judging from Su Cheng's earlier behavior and confidence, this soul-ring absorption was definitely different from before. And with her personality and ability as his teacher, a mere third soul ring absorption shouldn't pose any real danger.

Just like that, another half hour passed. Su Cheng's aura grew increasingly stable, and the surrounding phenomena also settled down, no longer producing new changes.

Footsteps approached from behind.

Chrysanthemum Douluo, Yue Guan, arrived at the hillside where the two were.

After greeting Qian Renxue, he looked at Su Cheng with some surprise."Mr. Su, what is going on here?"

"I'm not quite sure either. Let's ask teacher after he finishes absorbing the third soul ring," she replied.

Yue Guan nodded. The critical moment of soul-ring absorption obviously could not be interrupted, so he quietly stood aside and waited.

Qian Renxue saw he had come looking for Su Cheng, and thus said no more.

Time ticked by.

Two hours later, the bones in Su Cheng's body suddenly began crackling, the sound faint but rapid. Soon after, it was overshadowed by a long exhalation.

At the same time, both Qian Renxue and Yue Guan noticed that the special cage used to imprison soul beasts not far ahead had split cleanly into two halves.

A faint pressure washed over the two of them, then disappeared.

Given their status, they immediately understood.

They exchanged glances and exclaimed in surprise:"A domain?!"

At that moment, the seated Su Cheng slowly stood up, lowering his head to observe his broken-sword martial soul, now bearing its third ring.

"Teacher, was that a domain just now?"

Qian Renxue hurried over to him, her voice filled with excitement.

"Just the embryonic form."

In truth, Su Cheng had long since reached this level. What restricted him had always been the flaw in his martial soul.

Although this body's talent for sword dao was poor, his temperament was resilient, his comprehension high, and with the experiences of two lifetimes, his vision far surpassed that of ordinary people. He could often draw analogies across disciplines.

Moreover, because he was sufficiently focused, he had made the wise decision to abandon swordsmanship entirely and devote himself solely to sword dao.

By repeatedly practicing basic sword forms, he had already touched upon a trace of the most essential principle of sword dao.

Now, with his martial soul undergoing transformation, he finally pierced through that thin layer of obstruction.

At this moment, both Qian Renxue and Yue Guan finally noticed the changes Su Cheng himself had undergone.

Especially Qian Renxue — after years of living together day and night, her perception was the sharpest.

In the past, although Su Cheng had strong willpower and formidable ability, he always gave off a faint feeling of lacking breath or presence. This feeling was usually overshadowed by his powerful confidence and thus hard to notice.

But now, that vague sense of insufficiency had completely vanished.

To use an imperfect metaphor — it was as if Su Cheng had become more complete than before.

Anyone could see that he was no longer the same as before.

"Teacher… you seem to have become more handsome."

Qian Renxue stared at him blankly.

As soon as the words left her mouth, she realized she had said something foolish. Her cheeks immediately flushed red as she lowered her head, speechless.

Chrysanthemum Douluo standing beside them: "…"

Su Cheng's mouth twitched, but he did not respond.

By now, Yue Guan — a Level 95 Peak Douluo whose understanding of martial souls far surpassed Qian Renxue — quickly noticed Su Cheng's right hand.

"Mr. Su, your martial soul…"

Su Cheng nodded. The change in his martial soul could not be hidden anyway, so he simply stretched out his hand and revealed the now-transformed martial soul."Yes, a martial soul is ultimately the soul master's most fundamental power. As expected, there truly exists a profound connection between the martial soul and the soul of its wielder."

Su Cheng's Broken Sword martial soul—no, perhaps it could no longer be called "Broken Sword."

That blade, once covered in cracks and seemingly about to shatter at any moment, was now completely different.

The sword spine was firm and resilient, the blade smooth and even, and the edge gleamed with cold light. Although it was still an ordinary iron sword, it was countless times better than before.

"Teacher… your martial soul really underwent a second awakening…"

Qian Renxue had no time to be shy anymore. Her eyes were filled with joy and sorrow as she stared at Su Cheng's renewed sword martial soul.

Joy because her teacher would no longer suffer from innate limitations.Sorrow because she recalled all the hardships he had endured because of those very limitations.

Her emotions were extremely complex.

"No." Su Cheng looked at her, his gaze carrying an indescribable depth.

He shook his head. "This is not a martial soul awakening."

"Not an awakening?"

This time, both Qian Renxue and Yue Guan froze.

Su Cheng thought for a moment, then said with a hint of reflection:"Mm… if we must call it something, it should be considered a martial soul completion."

Then he faintly smiled."Didn't I say it before? 'Why can't nobles come from common soil?' If your innate talent is lacking, then you simply make up for it later."

At this moment, Su Cheng's mood was excellent. It was as if a road leading straight to the heavens had opened before him.
