Chapter 4 - CHAPTER 4 — Into the Green Unknown

The deeper I walked into the newborn forest, the more unreal it felt. The air was thicker, cooler… almost humming with life. Leaves rustled overhead, and distant cries of strange Pokémon echoed between the trees.

Pidgeotto circled above me, alert and graceful—a silent guardian.

The livestream chat ran wild:

[WHERE ARE U??]

[BRO THIS FOREST WASN'T HERE LAST WEEK]

[SHOW US ONE OF THOSE MAGIC BEASTS AGAIN]

"Patience," I whispered into my mic. "We'll take it slowly. I'm still near the edge."

Pidgeotto suddenly dipped out of view and disappeared into the foliage.

"Uh… girl? Where—"

She returned moments later, dropping something into my hands.

Colorful berries.Blue, pink, red, turquoise—nothing native to India.

Chat exploded:

[WHAT ARE THOSE FRUITS??][BRO DON'T EAT THEM THEY LOOK RADIOACTIVE]

I smiled.

"These are called Berries. They're from the Pokémon world."

The chat went quiet, curious.

Sitting under a banyan tree, I spread them out.

"This blue one is an Oran Berry. Heals minor injuries."

"This pink one is a Pecha Berry—good for detox."

"This turquoise here is Rawst, helps with burns."

"And this red one? Cheri Berry—helps with paralysis."

Just then—the system chimed:

[Berry Detected]

[Berry Blender Function Unlocked]

[All Berry Recipes Granted]

I blinked.

but I wasn't gonna use it on the live stream.

"Okay, that's new."

I fed two Oran berries to Pidgeotto. She chirped happily.

"Well," I said, dusting my hands, "let's—"

Something peeked from behind a tree.

A small green head. Wide yellow eyes. Little antennae.

A Caterpie.

I grinned. "We've got a visitor."

Chat melted down with cuteness overload.

[OMG ALIEN WORM]

[IT'S CUTE BUT ALSO SCARY]

[WHAT IS THAT??]

"This is a Pokémon called Caterpie," I explained. "It's harmless. Eats leaves. Very gentle."

I offered an Oran berry slowly.

Caterpie didn't eat it.It picked it up—then turned and crawled away.

"Oh? You're taking it somewhere?"

I followed quietly.

"This species is communal," I explained to viewers. "They support each other during evolution."

[WAIT EVOLUTION?? LIKE TRANSFORM??][WHAT DO YOU MEAN EVOLVE? INTO WHAT??][ARE THEY GOING TO TURN INTO BUTTERFLIES OR DRAGONS??][IF THE SMALL ONES EVOLVE ARE THEY MORE DANGEROUS??][ARE HUMANS GONNA EVOLVE TOO??]

"We'll see evolutions in the future. Most Pokemon evolve once or twice. It does increase their combat power and also intelligence. For humans evolving as far as I know that's not gonna happen. Few might awaken some powers like Psychic though." I said moving along.

After weaving through bushes, I stepped into a clearing—and froze.

Dozens of Caterpie clung to trunks. 4–5 Metapod hung from branches, their shells glowing faintly. String Shot layered the ground like natural scaffolding.

A thriving Caterpie colony.

Caterpie placed my Oran berry onto a small pile beneath the Metapods—a pile already filled with berries and leaves.

"For the ones evolving," I whispered to viewers. "They'll need energy when they emerge as Butterfree."

I placed a few more berries onto the pile.

"They're trying to help their future forms survive," I whispered to the audience. "Pokémon aren't just fighters. They're caretakers… families… ecosystems."

I leaned closer to a Metapod—careful not to touch.

"It's healthy," I murmured. "Cracks on the shell mean it's close to evolving."

Chat filled with awe:

[THIS IS LIKE A DOCUMENTARY][BRO I DIDN'T KNOW MAGIC ANIMALS COULD BE THIS PEACEFUL][WE HAVE SO MUCH TO LEARN]

Caterpie watched me with cautious curiosity.I bowed my head slightly.

"Thanks for the trust. I'll leave."

Exiting the clearing, I exhaled deeply.

"That was… incredible."

Pidgeotto landed on my shoulder, feathers soft and comforting.

As I walked, a thought crept into my mind:

Where there are Caterpie, there are Weedle… and where there are Weedle, there are Beedrill.

A chill crawled up my spine.

Let's not become a forest pincushion today, Aakash.

I kept my voice steady for the stream.

"All right, plenty more to explore. Let's keep—"

A rustle.

I froze.

Please not Beedrill—Please not Beedri—

A small orange-and-black pup trotted out.

My breath caught.

A Growlithe.

The dog-like Pokémon stared at me, nose twitching, clearly drawn in by the lingering scent of the berries Pidgeotto carried.

"Oh hey, little guy," I whispered, lowering myself slightly. "Curious, huh?"

Chat exploded:

[IS THAT A TIGER DOG??]

[FIRE PUPPY??]

[BRO PET IT PLEASE]

[BRO DO NOT PET THE STRIPED DOG IT MIGHT BE RADIOACTIVE]

I laughed under my breath. "Relax. He's a Growlithe. Normally gentle, loyal, and friendly."

Growlithe sniffed the air—eyes focused on the berry scent clinging to me.

"Hey buddy," I said gently. "You want a berry?"

I held one out.

Growlithe stiffened, barked twice, and lowered into a fighting stance.

Challenge.

He wanted a battle.

Pidgeotto stepped forward, feathers rising, ready.

Chat erupted:

[LIVE BATTLE LETS GOOOO]

[BRO 1V1 A FIRE DOG]

"All right," I sighed. "Pidgeotto, take it easy. He's young."

Growlithe charged.

"Dodge left!"

Pidgeotto slipped aside.

"Gust!"

Wind blasted Growlithe back, but harmlessly.

He barked excitedly—enjoying this—and shot forward again, firing tiny sparks.

"Ember incoming—move!"

Pidgeotto dodged, though a few sparks singed her wing.

"You're okay! Shake it off!"

"Quick Attack!"

She blurred forward, striking Growlithe cleanly.

He rolled, then sprang up wagging—thrilled.

"One more! Wing Attack, but gentle!"

Her wings glowed white—she struck, knocking him onto his back.

Dust settled. Growlithe lay panting, tail wagging happily.

I approached slowly.

"Good fight, buddy. Thank you for the training."

Growlithe got up, shook his fur, and padded closer—sniffing my hand before giving it a small lick.

Chat exploded into melted hearts:

[OMG PRECIOUS BOY][WE MUST PROTECT HIM][BEST DOGGO ALIVE]

I gently placed two Oran berries in front of him.

"Here. You earned these."

I offered two Oran berries.

He sniffed them, barked gratefully, and ate.

Turning to the camera, I explained:

"For everyone watching… this Pokémon is called Growlithe. They're incredibly loyal and naturally protective."

Growlithe looked up proudly.

"In the Pokémon world, Growlithe—and their evolved form, Arcanine—are often partnered with law enforcement. They're brave, intelligent, and perfect for tracking or rescue work."

Chat spammed:

[REAL POLICE DOG??][INDIA SHOULD GET THESE ASAP][A SQUAD OF FIRE DOGS WOULD BE OP]

Growlithe finished eating and nudged my knee softly with his snout.

Using Evergreen Power, I gently healed his minor bruises.

He barked in appreciation, nudged my hand, and—after a last happy glance—trotted back into the forest.

The silence that followed felt warm.

"That," I told the viewers, "was probably one of the friendliest battles we'll ever have."

With Pidgeotto watching alertly, I pushed deeper into the forest—into a world growing stranger, wilder, and more beautiful by the minute.

Audience POV

The moment the notification popped up—"Pokémon Exploration: LIVE from Mumbai Forest"—thousands clicked without thinking. What else was there to do, when the world itself was mutating?

And on screen, there he was: the boy with the strange bird-creature.

Aakash.

At first, nobody believed he was actually walking into that new patch of forest near Aarey. Even from the camera, the place looked eerie—darker than normal, the kind of quiet that usually came before a storm. Some viewers typed:

[BRO TURN BACK][NO SERIOUSLY THAT FOREST IS NOT NORMAL][THIS BOY WANTS TO SPEEDRUN DEATH]

But he kept going.

Then his bird—"Pidgeotto," he called it—flew off and returned with alien fruits. That alone set the chat on fire.

[WHAT ARE THOOOOOSE][NO SERIOUSLY DO NOT TOUCH RANDOM FRUIT][ARE THESE MAGIC??]

When Aakash calmly said, "These are called Berries," the chat stalled.Named creatures, named items… it almost felt like he knew these things, when no one else on Earth did.

People screenshot like maniacs. WhatsApp groups exploded.

At the Mumbai Police Cyber Cell building, three officers gathered around one PC.

"Run that back," one muttered."Did he say medicinal? From the creatures?" another asked."This kid's either a genius or insane."

Meanwhile, Aakash explained each berry with the confidence of a botanist and the calmness of a teacher. The more he talked, the more it felt like he wasn't dealing with "monsters," but wildlife he genuinely understood.

And then it happened.

A tiny green head peeked from behind a tree.

The entire chat reacted the same way:

[BABY WORM][CUTEEEE][NO ONE TOUCH HIM OR WE RIOT]

Even police officers leaned closer to the screen.

"That's not dangerous, is it?""Looks harmless enough…""Unless it spits acid or something."

But instead of attacking, the creature—"Caterpie"—took a berry and led Aakash deeper into the forest.

The feed went silent for a moment as the camera revealed dozens of Caterpie in the trees, and several green cocoons hanging from branches.People watching from their homes stared in awe.

Kids pointed at screens.Parents whispered nervously.News channels grabbed clips instantly.

In a police station in Bandra, an inspector muttered, "So they aren't all violent."A junior constable replied, "Sir… they're acting like a family."

The tone of the stream changed.People saw—not monsters—but a functioning ecosystem taking shape in real time.

When Aakash quietly said, "Pokémon aren't just fighters," even chat trolls calmed down.

Then the orange-striped dog appeared.

Growlithe.

If Caterpie melted hearts, Growlithe detonated them.

[OMG FIRE DOGGO][ADOPT HIM][POLICE PLEASE GET THESE DOGS]

And ironically, several Mumbai Police officers said the same thing at the same time:

"…we need these," one remarked."Imagine patrols with this thing," another whispered."Get the Commissioner on the phone," someone joked.

The playful fight between Pidgeotto and Growlithe had viewers screaming. Some cheering. Some panicking. Some yelling instructions like they were coaching a cricket match.

When Aakash explained that Growlithe were ideal for law enforcement, half of Mumbai Police silently agreed—and the other half were already imagining a whole canine unit of flaming puppies.

By the time Growlithe trotted away and Aakash healed him with some glowing green energy, the chat had completely shifted tone.

No one was calling them monsters anymore.Everyone was watching with a strange mix of wonder, fear, and hope.

As Aakash walked deeper into the forest, the number on the livestream counter surged.

10k.20k.50k.100k viewers.

People across Mumbai—and beyond—were witnessing the birth of something new.

Not just Pokémon appearing on Earth.

But the first person brave enough to show the world how to live with them.
