63. Preparing Bigger
The transfer began.
Stretchers.
Medical files.
Oxygen support.
Two guards.
Kyron.
Maximilian himself walking beside the gurney with an expression carved from stone.
Everyone expected chaos.
Screaming.
Lights bursting.
Voices.
Floating objects.
But…
Nothing happened.
Not a single whisper.
Not a flicker of a bulb.
Not even a shadow moving.
The hospital corridors stayed unnaturally silent.
Even the alarms, usually beeping nonstop, were quiet…
as if holding their breath.
Doctor Hyes whispered shakily:
"…this is not normal."
Kyron nodded, just as disturbed.
"No disturbances, no disruptions, no paranormal spikes… Sir, I don't like this. It's too calm."
Maximilian didn't answer.
He pushed the stretcher forward himself, step by steady step.
Eleanor remained unconscious.
Peaceful.
Still.
Not a twitch.
Not a tremor.
Not a whisper from the entity inside her.
Outside, the SUV convoy waited, engines humming.
The moment the hospital doors opened, a cold breeze brushed past them.
Kyron shivered.
"Sir… did you feel that?"
Max replied quietly:
"Yes."
It wasn't wind.
It felt like someone stepped aside.
Like something massive simply moved out of the way.
As if
the darkness itself was letting him pass.
The team loaded Eleanor into the lead ambulance.
Max followed inside.
Still nothing.
The doors shut.
The convoy rolled forward.
No spirits.
No distortion.
No attacks.
No demonic pressure trying to crush them.
Just… silence.
Doctor Hyes called from behind:
"I… I don't understand. This morning she destroyed half the hospital. She caused heart attacks. She—"
Max cut him off calmly.
"Something wants us to reach home."
Kyron tensed.
"Why would a demon voluntarily let us go…?"
Max stared ahead, voice low:
"Because it's waiting for us there."
Kyron's breath hitched.
The drive continued.
Smooth.
Peaceful.
Almost soft.
As if the entire city held its breath.
The convoy passed streets, bridges, tunnels.
Not even the wind stirred the leaves.
Max felt the air grow heavier—
but not hostile.
Expectant.
Waiting.
Watching.
When they finally arrived at the Brooks Mansion gates…
Everything remained quiet.
Too quiet.
The guards opened the doors.
The vehicles rolled in.
Still no disturbance.
The mansion—freshly lit, repaired, cleaned—didn't flicker.
Didn't shake.
Didn't growl.
Aiden and Chloe waited anxiously inside.
The moment they saw Max, they ran to him.
"Brother Max!"
"Is Aunt Eleanor okay?"
Max brushed their hair gently.
"She's stable."
Eleanor was carried into a secured, heavily protected private suite.
Monitors beeped.
Her breathing was normal.
Kyron swallowed hard.
"Sir… this is—this is unreal. The entity didn't attack. Not even once."
Max loosened his tie slightly.
His voice was calm.
Too calm.
"It wants me to think we're safe."
Kyron froze.
Max's gaze darkened as he stared at his unconscious mother.
"It wants me relaxed."
A beat.
"And that means only one thing."
His eyes sharpened.
"It's preparing something bigger."
