Alto stared at the floating panel with a happy smile. Then it turned a bit dull.

'Did I not learn any new abilities?'

It seemed as though he had not.

Then a look of concern reflected from his eyes. The creature was decently heavy so he lowered his sword to the ground as he looked behind him.

Maya was shivering in the snow.

Alto quickly sent the flames around him to her. Making them a bit more dense in the process. He quickly dissipated some of it.

He had used a good portion of mana in the fight. He doubted that he could make it back to the town before his reserves were empty. So he refused to summon the internal flame. He then looked down at the creature. It must have been either silver or gold ranked. Alto was lucky that his only real ability happened to counter its defenses.

He knew that as well.

Alto also wanted to grab its magic stone. However, that would mean practically butchering the creature. If he was alone then he would be willing to. It would be worth a decent amount of money after all. Though, he didn't want to traumatize the young girl.

"Could you stand over there, and face that tree."

His greed got the better of him.

"No! I don't want you to leave me!"

Alto was a bit surprised with that reaction.

"I'm not going to leave. I just need to do something, something that you shouldn't see."

"Why!"

"Money."

'Why'd I say that? Damnit… it's probably not that important, I guess. Probably only sells for a couple copper coins anyway.'

"Actually, let's just go." Alto said hesitantly.

Alto grabbed her hand and held it while they continued moving through the woods.

A small dim light could be made out in the darkness. Alto was freezing. The young girl was once again quiet. Something seemed to be bothering her.

They continued through the woods until the flame fully dissipated. They were at least close to the village. A few moments of walking later. They made it back. Alto was shivering as he moved towards the guild. Then Maya suddenly started pulling him back.

"No! I can't go in there! I will kill them all!"

Alto suddenly stopped. He looked at her, she was pulling with all of her might. Then looked at the random people watching him. They looked a bit angry.

"Look. I'm cold, you're cold, so could we please just go inside?"

"No!"

"We don't have time for this."

More people gathered in the street. Maybe around ten of them. All staring at Alto.

"Ok then? Where do you suggest we go? Huh?"

Alto quickly found himself in her mother's house. The one that the mother supposedly left after learning about the dragonblood curse. He could have probably left her on the street and went inside the guild. In fact, he was considering it. Though, it seemed far too cruel for him. Especially because this child was supposedly "dying."

He was sitting on a chair overlooking the room. Maya was under the covers of a smaller mattress lying on the ground. Alto had recovered a little mana. He walked over to the fireplace and got on his knees right in front of it. He ignited a small spark. Throwing it onto the wooden logs. The small spark didn't dissipate. Then he suddenly filled it with all of his remaining mana. A flame burst from the spot.

The logs caught fire. Alto quickly put out his hands feeling the heat. In fact it was too hot, he shifted his arms slightly back.

'Aw, this is much better, much, much better.'

Two small delicate hands appeared right next to his. He turned to face Maya. She was sitting right in front of him. Leaning as far as she could. Her eyes were reflecting the bright hot flame.

'Could have been warm an hour ago. Just had to go and make a scene.'

He then dismissed that thought. He really wanted to ask more questions about dragonblood. Something like, is it really dangerous? Am I going to die soon? He was really worried about making the young girl cry again. He was planning to do more research tomorrow. Going into town and checking out their library.

For now, they would both enjoy the small flame.

The small cabin, gradually grew warm. There was no longer a need to be by the flame. Alto moved back to the wooden chair. He decided to summon his stats.
