Chapter 15: The Entrance Exam - Part 2

POV: Nova Asahi

Combat Precognition painted the battlefield in tactical overlays that would have made military strategists weep with envy. Robot weak points glowed like Christmas lights in Nova's enhanced perception—power cores highlighted in pulsing red, joint assemblies marked with targeting reticules, movement patterns predicted with mathematical precision.

The first two minutes of the exam belonged to him alone.

Enhanced Reflexes carried him between targets like water flowing around stones, each movement optimized for efficiency and lethality. The one-pointer never saw him coming—Lightning Touch surged through his palm as he landed on its chassis, electricity frying circuits with surgical precision. Sparks cascaded from its optical sensors as the machine collapsed in a heap of twisted metal.

[1-Pointer Defeated! Villain Points: 1]

"Three MP for Lightning Touch. Efficient and decisive. Next target."

The second robot—a bulkier two-pointer with rotating cannon arms—detected his approach and swiveled to engage. Combat Precognition showed him the attack pattern two seconds before it manifested: cannon rotation, target acquisition, sustained fire. Nova's response was already in motion before the robot finished turning.

Air Hop launched him above the firing arc while his hand closed around an Explosion Seed, the volatile orb pulsing with contained destruction. He dropped it through the robot's chest cavity opening and twisted away as thirty MP worth of explosive force turned advanced machinery into expensive scrap metal.

[2-Pointer Defeated! Villain Points: 3]

[Time Elapsed: 47 seconds]

Around him, other examinees finally processed what had happened and scattered into the urban maze with varying degrees of tactical awareness. Nova caught glimpses of familiar faces—Bakugo launching himself toward distant explosions with typical subtlety, a girl with vine-like hair moving through the streets with botanical precision, Uraraka floating herself to rooftop advantage.

"Good. Let them spread out and claim their own victories. I need points, but I also need to look human doing it."

The next eight minutes became a masterclass in controlled violence. Nova moved through Battle Center B like a scalpel cutting through tissue—precise, efficient, devastating. Lightning Touch disabled electronics while Explosion Seeds handled structural damage. Combat Precognition let him engage multiple targets simultaneously, predicting attack patterns and positioning himself in optimal strike zones.

[1-Pointer Defeated! Villain Points: 4]

[3-Pointer Defeated! Villain Points: 7]

[2-Pointer Defeated! Villain Points: 9]

But it was during his systematic decimation of a three-robot cluster that Nova spotted his first rescue opportunity.

A girl with long green hair—Ibara Shiozaki, his meta-knowledge supplied—was trapped between two two-pointers that had cornered her in a narrow alley. Her vine Quirk lashed out desperately, but the robots' armored chassis deflected her attacks while they closed distance with mechanical persistence.

"Rescue points. This is where heroes separate themselves from point-farmers."

Nova's tactical mind shifted gears instantly. Instead of claiming those two robots for personal score, he could create an opportunity for collaborative heroism that would demonstrate exactly the kind of character UA valued most.

Lightning Touch disabled the first robot's targeting system while Nova used Smokescreen to blind the second, gray vapor flooding the alley like dense fog. "NOW!" he shouted, and Ibara's reaction was immediate—thick vines erupted from the ground to wrap around both machines, crushing them with botanical fury.

She shot him a grateful look as the smoke cleared. "Thank you! I couldn't get the angle I needed."

"Teamwork makes the dream work," Nova replied, already scanning for the next opportunity.

[Rescue Assist! Estimated Rescue Points: +10]

The pattern repeated six more times over the next five minutes. Nova identified students in trouble, created openings for their success, called out robot weak points to struggling examinees, and used his abilities to set up collaborative victories rather than claiming everything for himself.

A boy with stretching arms got the angle he needed when Nova blinded a three-pointer with Smokescreen. A girl with hardening skin landed her decisive blow after Nova used Lightning Touch to disable her target's defensive systems. Each intervention was surgical—just enough assistance to turn failure into success without stealing anyone's moment of triumph.

[Current Score: 35 Villain Points]

[Estimated Rescue Points: 40+]

[MP Remaining: 130/250]

[Time Remaining: 4 minutes]

With four minutes left and a comfortable point total secured, Nova deliberately slowed his pace. He found a relatively clear rooftop and activated Minor Regeneration to heal the various scrapes and bruises accumulated during high-speed combat, using the recovery time to observe the broader tactical picture.

"Forty-five points should guarantee admission. More importantly, the rescue assists should demonstrate heroic character. Time to let others shine while I catch my breath."

Bakugo's explosions painted the distant skyline in shades of orange and destruction. Even from this distance, Nova could see the systematic devastation his rival was inflicting—probably approaching sixty or seventy points through pure aggressive efficiency. Classic Bakugo strategy: overwhelming firepower applied without subtlety or mercy.

Closer to Nova's position, Uraraka demonstrated creative use of her zero-gravity Quirk by floating debris to create improvised projectiles. Her technique was impressive for someone without formal combat training, and Nova felt a surge of protective pride watching her succeed through intelligence and determination.

"Everyone's finding their own path to victory. Good. That's how it should be."

His Danger Sense had been humming with low-level warning throughout the exam, but now it escalated to active alarm. Something massive was approaching—hostile intent on a scale that dwarfed every robot he'd encountered combined.

The ground began to tremble.

[WARNING: EXTREME THREAT DETECTED]

[DANGER SENSE: MAXIMUM ALERT]

[RECOMMEND IMMEDIATE EVASIVE ACTION]

Students throughout Battle Center B stopped their robot hunting and looked around in confusion as the vibrations increased. Then the zero-pointer emerged from behind a cluster of buildings like a kaiju stepping out of nightmare, and Nova's enhanced perception catalogued details that made his blood run cold.

Sixty meters tall. Armored chassis thick enough to shrug off military-grade weapons. Optical sensors sweeping the battlefield with the cold efficiency of a predator selecting prey. This wasn't a test opponent—this was a disaster scenario designed to sort heroes from point-farmers.

"Zero points for defeating it. Maximum points for running away. Unless you prioritize saving people over personal advancement."

Examinees scattered in every direction as the mechanical giant began its advance, but Nova's enhanced senses picked out the ones who wouldn't make it in time. Three students caught in the debris field of the robot's approach—including Uraraka, frozen with terror and clutching what looked like a twisted ankle.

"This is it. This is where real heroes prove themselves."

Nova didn't hesitate.

Air Hop launched him from the rooftop toward the chaos below while Combat Precognition painted evacuation routes in his enhanced vision. Two seconds to reach Uraraka. Three seconds for the zero-pointer's arm to complete its devastating sweep. Mathematical precision applied to life-or-death heroics.

[Entering Rescue Mode]

[All Combat Systems: Maximum Priority]

[Mission: Preserve Human Life]

The entrance exam's final test had begun, and Nova Asahi was ready to prove that borrowed power could create genuine heroism.
