Chapter 23 - Chapter 23, The Most Fearless Animal in the World

"Master, I saw it!"A voice full of excitement rang out as the young girl bounced like a child eager to show off her discovery.

"What did you see?" Yu Zi Yu's spirit stirred slightly at her tone. This should be good news.

"Um… I don't know how to describe it."After thinking for a moment, the girl's expression turned embarrassed. She shook her head and added, "But I can show you."

As she spoke, her pupils tightened, and an invisible power began to flow.

In the next instant, vivid scenes flashed across Yu Zi Yu's mind.A small village appeared—faint cries echoing in the distance. The scene shifted again, revealing two beds. Lying on them were none other than He Qing Er and He Ling Er.

"Village Chief, please restrain your grief. Qing Er may not make it, but Ling Er still has hope. She's only unconscious!"

"Unconscious? She's had a high fever that hasn't gone down. Ahh…"

Faint voices drifted into Yu Zi Yu's ears, bringing him a wave of relief. As he had suspected, He Qing Er's soul could sense her younger sister.

Then a surprised voice echoed in his mind.

"Master, I can move her!"

The scene changed again. Yu Zi Yu now saw He Ling Er lying pale on a bed, sweat beading across her forehead. Suddenly—her fingers twitched.

"She moved! She moved! Village Chief, Ling Er's fingers just moved!"An excited shout burst out in the cramped room.

But before Yu Zi Yu could observe further, everything blurred and faded away.

As his consciousness returned, Yu Zi Yu shifted his gaze to He Qing Er, still unconscious nearby. A complicated look filled his ancient eyes.

Telepathy was a rare and profound ability, tied to mind and soul. Even he couldn't fully understand it. But from what he'd seen, He Qing Er could remotely influence her younger sister's body—even across great distance.

It was only a small finger movement, but to Yu Zi Yu, it was a spark of hope.

I hope my choice was right.

When He Qing Er finally awoke, she looked tired.A branch lightly touched her head, like a gentle pat. She couldn't feel it, yet she still let out a clear, joyful laugh.

"Mas…ter."

"Mhm." Yu Zi Yu nodded, then instructed with a faint smile,"Keep practicing. Strengthen your telepathy. And if anything unusual happens there, tell me immediately."

"Unusual…?" she echoed softly.

"Yes. If the body you're sensing wakes up… or if a stranger arrives."Yu Zi Yu didn't explain further.

She was like a blank sheet of paper—simple, pure, and inexperienced. That would change with time. Soon, she would become a valuable helper.

Especially because he could not trust humans.

But He Qing Er was different. In her current state, she depended entirely on him. That alone made her loyalty certain.

As for whether He Ling Er would awaken and expose him—Yu Zi Yu dismissed the thought.

And He Qing Er, with her awakened psychic ability, could easily replace her if needed.

It wasn't urgent anyway. He had also sensed unusual energy circulating within He Ling Er's body—likely the awakening of an innate skill. It would take at least 10–15 days.

Plenty of time to train He Qing Er.

The night passed quickly.By dawn, the sky glowed gently and mist draped the mountains.

He Qing Er had fallen asleep, curled around one of his roots.

With a thought, Yu Zi Yu retracted the black root back into the earth.

He wasn't sure if sunlight would harm her, so he chose caution. Surprisingly, having her rest on his root had brought him a soothing coolness, easing some fatigue.

It was strange, but pleasant.

Still, he didn't dwell on it. More important matters awaited.

He shifted his gaze toward several branches, each one holding prey.

A golden-furred monkey dangled from one branch. Its bright eyes were wide open—not panicked, but unnervingly alert.

"What a clever monkey," Yu Zi Yu murmured inwardly.

There was also a wild buffalo, a white crane, four wolves, and—

A flat-headed animal with white fur and a silver mantle.

A honey badger.

The creature that confused him most.

Most people didn't know honey badgers, but they knew its nickname:

Brother Flathead.

It fought anything—killer bees, lions, you name it.

It was recognized as the most fearless creature in the world.

But isn't this thing usually found in Africa, West Asia, and South Asia? What's it doing here?Did the resurgence of spiritual energy trigger migrations…?

The creature was only about 70 centimeters long—small, goofy, and almost cute. Its flat head and white-furred back made it look like a thug with dyed hair.

No wonder people called it Brother Flathead. It truly lived up to the name.
