"Sir, are you sure you want to conduct the experiment this way?"Medusa's voice came through the earpiece.
"Medusa, actual combat is the only standard by which truth is tested."Zhou Yi tapped the communicator lightly. "Besides, what we're doing right now is very important."
"Sir, I don't think digging several kilometers of underground tunnel is a good idea. Especially since Dawn Model–01 has never undergone field testing. If something goes wrong, you may be trapped three hundred meters underground. It'll be extremely difficult to rescue you."
"Don't worry. I'm not that fragile. Start, Medusa."
"I understand, sir."
The machine in front of Zhou Yi began to emit a strange hum—full-power activation. Several agile mechanical arms descended, encircling him, attaching scattered components to his joints.
These components were placed around his knees, ankles, wrists, elbows, chest, shoulders, and head. Their purpose wasn't only protection—they also coordinated and controlled the growth and transformation of the nanometal.
When the fittings were secured, another set of mechanical arms extended—these with injector-like ends instead of dexterous hands.
One after another, the injector arms plugged long needles into ports on the components attached to Zhou Yi. These ports were specifically designed to channel nanometal inward.
As silver-gray metallic fluid was injected, fine hexagonal plates—so small they were nearly invisible to the naked eye—spread across his body like flowing mercury. They quickly covered him head to toe. This was only the first phase: the innermost protective layer, like a second skin.
Then came the second phase. A thicker wave of liquid metal flowed out, strengthening the armor's density. On the component-covered joints, it formed a solid outer layer; on other parts of the body, the metal gathered and reshaped into armored plates.
This step lasted over a minute until Zhou Yi was fully encased in a thick silver-gray shell.
The Dawn-Type I Nanotech Armor—years of effort and money—finally existed in the real world.
Its streamlined design gave it a simple yet fierce beauty. The chunky reinforced joints radiated power. Layered, interlocking armored plates offered both defense and aesthetic appeal—like a dragon-slaying knight from legend.
But to distinguish it from myth, the helmet was something else entirely: two external earpieces extended into crystalline nanometal, brimming with sci-fi flair.
This strangely shaped helmet connected seamlessly with the neck guard. A lower jawplate extended upward, forming a comet-like silhouette. Its crystalline front was mirror-bright, allowing only a faint outline of the face to show. When needed, most of the helmet could retract, leaving only the communication earpieces—a contingency for when revealing his identity became necessary. After all, he had no intention of being Spider-Man, wrapped up forever in a mask and tights.
Finally, faint light appeared within the crystalized nanometal at the helmet's center. Zhou Yi's voice emerged—now electronic.
"Medusa, this boot-up time seems much longer than expected." Zhou Yi tapped the helmet, hearing the crisp metallic ring. "But the design looks great."
"The delay comes from the armor adapting to your internal energy source. And thank you for the compliment."
"But I don't like this color."He glanced at the dull metallic gray on his arm. "Medusa, change the main armor plates to black. And give me something memorable—an emblem."
At his command, the armor's coloration shifted. The major armored sections darkened to pure black—nanometal altering color at the molecular level. Then, on the broad shoulder plates, a golden sun motif emerged, like a rising dawn just breaking through the earth.
In an instant, the once-mechanical-looking armor transformed into something darker—commanding, powerful.
"Much better." Zhou Yi admired his new appearance and gave more instructions."Medusa, assist with trajectory stabilization. Also, seal the exit behind me. I'd rather not return to find this place turned into Atlantis."
"Understood, sir."
"Good. Time to get to work."
The crystal core of the helmet flared with brilliant white light—superheated rays refracting from Zhou Yi's pupils. Wherever the light touched, metal and soil melted instantly into hardened crystalline structures. Zhou Yi leaped forward, diving directly into the ground.
With searing thermal beams cutting ahead and world-class AI guidance behind him, Zhou Yi drilled through the earth at a speed no human could imagine. Within minutes, he had carved a tunnel from his base to the seabed near Long Island—just one or two meters below the ocean floor.
Once Medusa confirmed their location, Zhou Yi punched upward, shattering the rock above. Debris and massive bubbles burst across the seabed. Zhou Yi shot out, hoisted several huge slabs of rock—each tens of feet wide—and slammed them over the tunnel entrance like he was sealing a cellar door.
When the water calmed, the piled stones looked exactly like a natural undersea rock formation… if one ignored the bite-shaped crater around it.
After disguising the tunnel, Zhou Yi burst through the water and rocketed into the sky. Only then did he realize how far he'd traveled—the shoreline was barely a sliver on the horizon.
No way the agents watching his house would ever imagine he'd exit from beneath the ocean.
Thinking of the agents lurking around his home, Zhou Yi chuckled. He mentally noted the slight—his impression of S.H.I.E.L.D. definitely took a hit.
"Medusa, tap into NYPD communications. See if there's anything we can intervene in."
"Sir, the nanometal on your right hand has been damaged. I recommend repairs before proceeding with your next plan."
Zhou Yi examined his right hand—the armor around his fingers was cracked, exposing the thin inner layer beneath. While the nanometal was actively repairing itself, the speed was clearly too slow.
"Noted. Add it to the research logs: improve Type-01's defensive capability. Now, keep monitoring the police network. We'll deal with repairs later."
"Yes, sir."Medusa complied. Soon, countless police transmissions streamed into Zhou Yi's ears.
"Caller reports someone streaking near Central Park. Anyone want to respond?""Burglary reported in Queens, officers nearby please investigate.""Illegal street racing in Manhattan—units respond immediately!""Sam, your mom brought your favorite cookies. Old Josh says thanks—and they're pretty good.""Amanda, tell Old Josh I'm coming back to kick his ass."
Once he connected to NYPD's internal channels, Zhou Yi realized exactly how police spent taxpayer money. If not for his cooperation with NYPD's Captain Stacy, he would've told Tony to cancel all charity funding for police development.
"Medusa, filter the noise. Only forward the important ones."
After ten minutes of boredom, Zhou Yi gave up on listening. He shot upward, breaking through cloud layers, streaking deep red from atmospheric friction.
The nanotech armor glowed faintly from heat, but never beyond a gentle red. Its thermal resistance exceeded expectations.
By the time he tore free of Earth's atmosphere, the armor remained stable—nanometal insulation fully intact.
Of course, such reckless flying couldn't go unnoticed.
"Director, unknown flying organism number 484 detected."The S.H.I.E.L.D. agent assigned by Commander Hill to monitor unidentified flyers immediately reported it.
"484" was the codename for Zhou Yi within S.H.I.E.L.D.—a restricted-access file for Level-7 and above. Those tracking him only knew they were monitoring an "unidentified flying entity," not his true identity. The agents surveilling his home only knew their billionaire target—not the classified 484.
S.H.I.E.L.D.'s secrecy rules were always like this: the more secrets you have, the more you compartmentalize.
Commander Maria Hill, already impatient with 484, spoke sharply:
"Send me the visuals. And get me Strike Team Eleven."
"Visual feed is up. Team Eleven is online."
Hill glanced at the satellite image. A black streak flashed across geosynchronous orbit, barely captured by the satellite's high-speed camera: a figure in full sci-fi exoskeleton armor, flying past with a very familiar pose.
Anyone who recognized it knew it—the classic Boy Scout salute.
Hill saw it as blatant mockery.
"You think you're some kind of model student?!" she snapped before regaining composure."Notify Team Eleven. Report in."
The nearby agents silently admired the commander's self-control. To go from furious to calm in seconds—terrifying. No wonder she was still single.
An agent, trying to suppress inappropriate thoughts, quickly relayed the order.
A crisp female voice answered:
"Commander, Strike Team Eleven reporting. This is Agent Morse."
"Barbara, report your situation."
"The target remains inside the villa. No signs of departure. Aside from stepping out to retrieve a pizza three and a half hours ago, no confirmed movement."
Without hesitation, Hill ordered:"Barbara, infiltrate the villa. Collect as much internal data as possible without alerting the target. He's no longer inside—I suspect a hidden exit."
Inside a black SUV sat a long-legged blonde. She blinked, then stepped out—revealing her most striking feature:
She was tall.Extremely tall.
Over 180 cm even barefoot; with heels, nearly 190. Her height alone could intimidate most men. Add her athletic figure, gorgeous features, and cascading golden waves—she exceeded the standard of a supermodel.
But right now, her expression was far from pleased.
"Commander, are you sure? The target is not an ordinary man."
As a Level-6 agent, Barbara Morse had no clearance to know 484's true identity. Hill, of course, wouldn't enlighten her.
"I'm certain. And that's an order."
"…Understood, Commander."
Given the clarity of the command, Agent Barbara Morse had no choice but to obey.
And so, unseen by anyone, she slipped toward Zhou Yi's villa.
