No one can describe what death is really like. It's a permanent question. Death is the door to another world, and what lies beyond that door, no one will ever know. The silent keepers of this secret are the dead. And the dead don't speak.
Zhou Yi had no idea what was happening to him. His last memory was being completely swallowed by an endless solar storm. Yet, he now felt himself in a vast, empty void.
Seeing, hearing, or any external perception seemed useless in this void. Nothing existed here except boundless darkness, a silence that bordered on terrifying. Within this stillness, Zhou Yi could only drift uncontrollably, like a ghost. Or rather, he was a ghost.
After drifting for an unknown amount of time, Zhou Yi finally sensed a glimmer of light. It was a faint light, but it stood out in the endless darkness. Drawn to this light, he felt his body uncontrollably float towards it.
The faint light grew closer, and finally, Zhou Yi saw what it was.
It was a lamp, an old-fashioned lantern emitting a soft, gentle light. This lamp radiated a magical glow. Under its light, Zhou Yi felt all his fear, anxiety, and restlessness melt away like snow under the sun. He slowly approached the lamp until a voice spoke.
"Stop, mortal! Do not approach the Soul Lamp any further; it will make your soul fall into eternal silence!" It was a gentle voice, and just hearing it brought a sense of inner peace, as if returning to the embrace of a mother.
Zhou Yi's eyes showed a trace of confusion, and he asked, perplexed, "What?"
"Living one, your life is reviving. It's not your time to enter the world of the dead yet."
A dim figure slowly emerged from the faint light. It was a lady who seemed somewhat slender. A black cloak enveloped her entire body, completely obscuring her true appearance. Only through the vaguely discernible perfect figure beneath the cloak and her gentle voice could one tell that she was an extremely beautiful being.
"Apologies, Lady! I don't understand what you mean. Also, may I ask who you are?" Zhou Yi shook his head slightly, puzzled by the woman's identity and her words.
"I have countless identities in the Multiverse, but mortals mostly call me Death!" The woman extended a snow-white, slender arm from beneath her cloak, gently lifting a Soul Lamp. "So you can call me Death Lady!"
The light of the Soul Lamp shone along the snow-white arm onto the cloak. Under that light, Zhou Yi could glimpse the Death Lady's true appearance beneath the cloak. It was a face that shouldn't exist on a human, perfect to the point of being almost flawless, without a single flaw even under the most critical scrutiny. What was most moving was the aura she exuded, the utmost tenderness, filled with tolerance and love for all life.
Almost without hesitation, Zhou Yi believed the woman's identity. He slightly lowered his head, expressing his respect for this great being.
"Greetings, esteemed Death Lady. However, I still have some doubts about what you just said. According to my memory, I should have already died. In a solar storm!"
Zhou Yi was very certain of his memory. Therefore, he was quite calm about his death. Although it was a very painful reality, there was nothing he couldn't accept. Death was an inevitable outcome, just a matter of sooner or later.
"Your attitude is admirable, mortal. But your understanding has some issues. It seems you don't know much about your own existence!" Death Lady waved her hand slightly, and the environment around them immediately underwent a huge change.
The darkness began to recede rapidly, and what appeared before Zhou Yi was a small room decorated with ornate, exquisite red and black drapes. This small room was filled with an atmosphere of luxury and elegance, instantly giving one a sense of enjoyment.
"We have plenty of time, mortal. So, I think we can change our approach and have a good chat." Death Lady sat on a black wooden chair carved with countless flowers. She poured two cups of tea and pushed one in front of Zhou Yi. "This is my resting place. Here, I always feel the beauty of life. I hope you don't mind. Also, is the black tea alright?"
"Of course, thank you!" Sitting opposite Death Lady, Zhou Yi picked up the teacup and took a gentle sip, the rich taste was admirable. "It's truly a commendable flavor. Your skill is superb! However, I still don't understand what you mean. Is there something wrong with my existence?"
"Thanks for the compliment, little one. As for your question, it's simple." Death Lady smiled, holding her teacup. "What do you think you are? Human, or something else?"
"Human, of course, madam. I have always believed that!" Without any hesitation, Zhou Yi answered this question.
Death Lady just chuckled at this answer.
"Little one, this answer is not correct, or rather, not entirely correct."
"I don't understand what you mean, Lady."
"It's simple. I am the Death Lady of the Multiverse, and all endings fall under my jurisdiction. In human terms, I am the reaper of all things. Do you think someone like me would come all this way just for the death of a human?" Her crimson lips curled slightly, and she answered before Zhou Yi could.
"No, after a human dies, the death god of this planet leads them to my realm; I don't need to intervene. The reason I'm here is because of you!"
"Me?" Zhou Yi pointed at himself, self-deprecatingly. "Is my existence so special that it has alarmed you?"
"I came to greet the end of a Star, or rather, I thought I was. But I was wrong. It wasn't a Star, but a more peculiar and incredible being."
"A Star, me! You must be mistaken; I don't feel like a celestial body." The Death Lady's words left Zhou Yi more and more confused, and he hoped for a more specific explanation.
"You are certainly not a Star, but neither are you human." A slender finger poked Zhou Yi's chest; the Death Lady had stood up and leaned in close to his face. "Little one, you don't know how amazing your existence is. A small part of you belonged to humanity, which has turned to ashes in the past. Only now have you truly been born, a being that is half god and half Star."
"The ashes of humanity gave your soul the final sublimation, Divinity began to flow from your soul, and your life gained a new beginning. The will of the Star also descended into your body. You are no longer ordinary, but like a god, even greater than a god. This is such an amazing thing. In countless years, you are the only one I have encountered."
Death Lady's words were like a fantasy to Zhou Yi. He still hadn't completely processed it all, and he asked hesitantly.
"Lady, are you sure you're not deceiving me? Because I really don't seem as amazing as you say."
"Don't rush, it hasn't even begun, little one!" Death Lady smiled, giving Zhou Yi a light kiss on the forehead. "The time is almost up. With my blessing, return to the world of the living. I believe you will discover everything I've said. Time will prove everything. Death never lies."
A soft murmur echoed in Zhou Yi's ears, and his mind began to drift. When he came to his senses, everything was different.
At this moment, everything seemed exceptionally strange on the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division's Helicarrier. Their satellites were faithfully carrying out their surveillance tasks, as expected. They had also captured the image of Zhou Yi being incinerated by the endless solar storm when the barrier collapsed. Because of this, it was eerily quiet there.
Just like the citizens of Paris didn't believe their hero had vanished, they didn't want to believe this reality either. But the cruel reality wouldn't allow them to disbelieve. There was nothing else in the pure, flawless golden fluid, even though a hero had just been in it.
"Report the situation, is the solar storm under control?" Nick Fury broke the eerie silence. As someone who had seen death many times, he reacted the fastest to the Dawn Knight's demise.
The technical staff, who were still in a daze, immediately began to work. Someone quickly answered his question.
"Sir, the solar flares have all dissipated outside the magnetosphere. Although there's a high-density storm gathering outside Earth, it shouldn't have any impact. They can't break through the magnetic field."
"Those solar flares haven't dissipated. I can see them with my own eye from here. Why is that?" Nick Fury, staring intently at the images from the satellite, wasn't nearly as calm or optimistic. The massive solar flare cloud was right above Earth, and the recent explosion had even caused the surface temperature to rise. Heaven only knew what would happen if those things entered Earth. He didn't trust those so-called researchers one bit.
"Perhaps it's due to residual gravity. They'll dissipate soon." The people called in to handle emergencies here were basically senior researchers from the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division. And as senior scientists, they always firmly believed in their own views.
"I hope it's as you say, or you can prepare to be launched into that storm." Cursing under his breath, Nick Fury started walking towards the meeting room. He had other matters to deal with. This was a huge mess, enough to drive him crazy.
"Sir, what about Magneto? Are we just going to let him leave?" Commander Hill, who had been silent since the Dawn Knight's demise, spoke up. Someone observant, like Coulson, noticed her mental state was very unstable, like a volcano rumbling beneath a glacier.
"Shouldn't we try our best to capture Magneto, so we can explain to the council!" Worried about his companion being reprimanded, he quickly spoke up, trying to divert Nick Fury's attention so he wouldn't notice Commander Hill's inner turmoil.
"Have you two collectively lost your minds? That's Magneto. He's not some nobody you can just catch. You've seen his power. I can tell you clearly, no one dares to touch him. He still has hundreds of nuclear missiles!"
His subordinates' stupidity was beyond his comprehension. He was about to give a harsher scolding, but was immediately interrupted by the officers on duty.
"Sir, we have a situation!"
