The cloth was yanked off my head.
Suddenly it's too much light for my eyes!
The lady glanced at me over her shoulder, amused.
"Relax. If we wanted you dead, we wouldn't drag you all the way to the city."
That didn't make me relax though!
We reached the main road, and suddenly a carriage stopped in front of us.
A fancy one.
Polished wood, crest on the side, curtains made of rich fabric.
"Put her inside," the lady ordered.
"No—NO WAIT—!"
Too late. They shoved me inside like luggage instead of a person.
The carriage started moving.
The bumping dirt road slowly changed into smooth stone streets.
Voices of vendors... the noise of crowds... the smell of city food...
We were definitely in the capital.
And then after some time, the carriage stopped again.
The door opened, and I stared blankly.
A mansion rose before me-tall gates, marble pillars, guards in uniform.
A proper noble residence.
The maid gave me a shove.
"Behave. Running won't end well for you."
"Move. The young lady doesn't like being kept waiting."
I stumbled forward, heart pounding.
...What have I gotten myself into?
Once inside, i noticed something strange.
The mansion was huge—luxurious halls, expensive carpets, sparkling chandeliers—
but… there were barely any servants?
At least i haven't seen anyone other than the butler, a chef and the scary maid who dragged me here.
"Wow…! Is there no one else except the butler and the chef?" I asked without thinking cause i was very curious.
The lady turned to me, "There is another one but that person is out on an errand."
"And the last one is standing right in front of me."
I looked here and there and said "Huh? Where? I can't see another soul here other than me"
She smiled.
"It is you. You said you would do anything if I spared your life."
My blood ran cold.
"So," she continued, "I've decided to make you my servant. Unless, of course…you prefer death?"
…Suddenly, the maid didn't seem so scary anymore.
The lady was MUCH worse!!!
