Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 — Bulma Can Ride the Nimbus?!

Bulma said,

"Goku, when we grow up, how about I buy an island

and build a seaside resort there?"

Goku's eyes lit up.

He remembered the peaceful scenes from Dragon Ball Super—

Whis, Beerus, all their friends, and the kids.

Parties, gatherings, endless feasts.

An island full of chefs and famous dishes from every cuisine.

In canon, he and Vegeta would spar over the sea,

then come back to eat anything they wanted.

Simple and unadorned—yet perfect.

"Then we have to hire tons of chefs and eat food from all over the world!" he said excitedly.

Bulma smiled sweetly. "Deal.

I'll make sure you eat well every day."

"Deal!" Goku nodded hard.

Just then, a voice cut through the waves.

"Hi!"

They turned.

A shamelessly sleazy figure appeared riding on the sea turtle.

A bald man in sunglasses, a loud floral shirt, and short trunks—

standing atop the turtle as it carried him to shore.

Master Roshi.

He flashed a peace sign when he reached them.

"Sorry to keep you waiting!"

He and the turtle climbed onto the beach.

Roshi looked at short little Goku, then walked straight toward Bulma.

"Hello, beautiful young lady.

Were you the one who saved my turtle?"

Bulma nodded, then glanced at Goku.

"We both saved him."

Roshi laughed.

"He's been lost for a whole year.

Thank you so much for bringing him back.

To repay you, I'll give each of you a wonderful gift."

He tried summoning a phoenix.

It had died of food poisoning.

After some fumbling, Roshi finally summoned the Flying Nimbus.

He looked at Bulma.

"This is the Flying Nimbus.

Ride it and you can soar through the sky—a true treasure.

To thank you for saving the turtle, I'll give this to you!"

Bulma stared blankly.

In her previous life, she couldn't ride it.

Only pure-hearted people could.

Goku, Chi-Chi, Gohan—their family could all ride it.

But Bulma couldn't.

She turned to Goku.

"Goku… you should take it."

"Sure!" Goku nodded and stepped forward—

only for Roshi to block him.

"Wait. This cloud is for you, young lady.

I have something else for him."

Bulma blinked again.

"For me… specifically?"

Roshi nodded. "Yep. Go on and try it!"

Bulma hesitated.

She reached out and touched the Nimbus.

This time she didn't touch air—

she felt its body.

Soft like cotton. Like a mattress.

Her pupils shrank.

Why?

"You can't get on?

Let me give you a boost!"

Roshi moved behind her, posture clearly aiming to "help" by lifting her butt.

Bulma scowled, ignored him, and leapt up herself.

She landed steadily on the cloud.

Goku froze.

But the next moment his eyes shone.

This Bulma wasn't just less lovestruck than canon—

she could ride the Nimbus. That meant her heart was truly pure.

That was great.

Besides, Goku didn't feel he was losing anything.

Once he learned the Flying Technique later, he'd be faster anyway.

Bulma being able to ride was far more useful.

She wasn't strong or fast on foot; without transport, travel would be slow.

But he could run all day as training.

He pictured it instantly:

Bulma flying on Nimbus above,

while he jogged beneath, training as they traveled.

A double win.

Finding Dragon Balls would be much easier.

He praised her eagerly,

"Bulma, that's amazing!

Fly around and try it out!"

Bulma kneeled on the cloud, gripping its puffs, and nodded.

In the next instant, Nimbus shot forward with her.

She was cautious by nature, unlike Goku.

There was no windshield, and she was afraid of falling.

Nimbus sensed her fear, slowed down, and flew steadily instead of fast.

Roshi looked up, leering.

With her skirt, if she stood up there, the view would be incredible.

But because she was scared,

she stayed kneeling, wrapped in cloud—no "scenery" at all.

A real shame.

Roshi sighed, disappointed.

After a few circles, Nimbus lowered Bulma gently to the sand.

The turtle lifted its head toward Roshi.

"That kid carried me here. You still owe him a gift."

Roshi scratched his head.

"I'm thinking! The phoenix is dead, and I don't have another Nimbus…

Let me think of something else to give him…"

Just then Bulma spoke up.

"Grandpa Roshi…

could you give us the ball you're wearing on your chest?"
