Cherreads

Chapter 16 - Chapter 16 Plants don't move

The message that it had been killed was disappointing and delirious, and I continued on my way after a nap. My consciousness amount increased again just like all the other battles, an addition to a growing lake.

The surrounding trees were as pristine as they could get while the light that illuminated was sucked into a space I couldn't comprehend.

It was difficult, and I mean the ability.

Difficult to understand. Not a single the seismic band showed up.

Blood red liquid poured into a wine glass. The wine glass was put on top of a glass table laced with dust as we blinked into a human abode.

The red liquid swirled gently as if it hadn't been in my hand when I accelerated. I sat upon an armchair and dazed at the wooden furnitures and wooden walls that was a familiar shade of color together with the familiar wooden spots.

I raised the glass to my face. A part of the wood in my face parted and opened a chasm for the red liquid to pour down.

The shattered upon the floor with the last of the cherry drops spilled within it.

I blinked out of the mansion.

The time in this floor was set just minutes before the sun dies. But instead of the warm and orange cocoon of the dragon's floor, this floor had a colder shade with a blood red sun and the sky mostly purple and blue.

Clouds moved as the wind blew coldly.

Under the stare of the bloody sun, I stepped on the snow and walked through the forest of evergreen trees.

Maybe I shouldn't be walking. Maybe I should be rushing. Or maybe I shouldn't be arguing inside at all.

The rush to urge stung my feet. But my wooden feet didn't move any faster.

I found myself standing still at some point, looking straight at the sun through a patch of branches and thin clouds riding the sky. If I were a cloud...

I felt myself thinking something stupid.

At some point, the wind had chased away all the clouds and the glare of the dying sun couldn't be hid anymore.

This was the problem with being a plant. The nature of plants is that they don't move and I keep reverting to that state sometimes when I feel less like a human and more like a wood.

I looked down at my hand that looked like a human hand carved of wood.

Humans are compose of movement. Constant movement.

I let my hand fall and stared at the sun.

At some point, in a distance, I heard something. A group of something talking and laughing. It was definitely a human laugh.

Maybe... this floor had humans.

My heart beat again.

I ran through the converging woods and the bushes.

Between the dead branches figures could be seen. The sun illuminated a human silhouette coated in red and a light grey.

A face turned to me. Their eyes, they had eyes, and it widened.

I stopped in my tracks.

The girl screamed.

Everyone hurriedly pulled out their weapon terrified by the moving tree.

I disappeared and a moment later appeared in front of the door to the mansion again.

I looked down at the floor of the deck.

Wood.

I stood up and went into one of the rooms. Opening a nearby wardrobe revealed a stash of modern clothes. I grabbed at the green jacket and pants with boots.

A glove as well.

I went up to a mirror.

In it stood a human shaped green wood, adorned in clothing.

Slowly the flat wood on its face changed a bit and the depth of nose and lips appeared. A layer of soft leaf filled with water covered its face. The color of the leaf changed into the pinkish white of a human skin tone.

But it still looked weird like it was wearing a plastic mask.

I changed the color a bit. Then changed the face shape a bit. The uncanny valley energy never left.

Sigh

I went to the next step instead.

Leaves on the sockets of the eye melted into the wood underneath as it morphed into the shape of human eyes. Needles of an evergreen tree grew from the edges and curled white painting itself back. The addition of eyelids grew and a pair of woody brown irises appeared.

Next were the lips and then ears along with the nose holes.

I looked back at the mirror. The lips were thankfully okay. The wood on the eyes didn't reflect light like a human's. But other than that something else was still missing.

After making the eyes more glossy and adding a mucus like membrane around them it started reflecting light. Though it reflected slightly dully.

Thin fine pale blonde hair grew out from my head till it reached my shoulder like a clean cut hair. I looked at myself in the mirror.

The hair turned black. The group earlier had black hair, it was better to blend in as much as possible.

I looked at myself again.

Almost human, but would anyone in their right mind not be suspicious when some random person they never saw before enters their village the very day they encountered a creepy moving wood. Maybe not?

Or maybe, the fact that I'm an outsider despite there being only them on this floor is suspicious enough. I'm sure there's only one human settlement on this floor.

Hmmm

Maybe I should just kill them since I'll be doing that anyway.

Sigh

I stared at my reflection then walked out of the building. Could've used an illusion instead of the whole process, but I guess I wasn't in the mood.
