Marcus Chen stood in his office, staring at the city below.
Three days.
Three days since everything had fallen apart.
Three days since that secretary, that nobody, had destroyed months of planning with a taxi ride and a camera phone.
His hands were clenched so tightly behind his back that his knuckles ached.
The door to his office opened, and his lawyer stepped in. Douglas Merrick. Expensive, competent, and currently wearing an expression that Chen didn't like.
"They're building a case," Douglas said without preamble. "Federal charges. Conspiracy. Witness tampering. Fraud."
"Based on what evidence?"
"Based on Claire's confession. Based on the photos showing her meeting with someone in your car. Based on financial records showing payments to her account that trace back to your shell companies."
Chen turned slowly. "She didn't name me."
