Chapter 16 - Chapter 16 Self-Created Soul Skills.

Chapter 16 Self-Created Soul Skills.

"That concludes today's theoretical knowledge. Everyone, stand up and assemble in the Soul Battle Area. Today's next lesson is a practical combat class. Every student in the class must participate in at least one practical combat training session."

"At Shrek Academy, practical combat is paramount. The freshman assessment three months from now will also be a practical combat test. I suggest you prepare yourselves mentally in advance."

After saying this, Mu Jin turned and walked out of the classroom.

Without the teacher present, everyone felt more at ease.

"Wu Xuan, amazing! You're already a three-ring Soul Master and you've kept it so secret, you didn't even tell me!" Qian Gu Ming nudged Wu Xuan and exclaimed.

Some bolder female students also gathered around Wu Xuan, wanting to build a relationship with him.

"Teacher Mu has already gone to the Soul Battle Area. Everyone, hurry up and assemble. Don't talk about anything else." Wu Xuan stopped the students who were approaching and stepped forward.

The male students were initially stunned, then loudly echoed, following Wu Xuan out in single file.

A girl with short red hair, seeing this, was quite indignant: "Young Master, you are also a Soul Master, and with your status, why should Wu Xuan be the class monitor, bypassing you?"

Ning Tian shook his head slightly upon hearing this, saying, "It's just the position of freshman class monitor, nothing to worry about. Wu Feng, don't even think about challenging him during the practical training later. How many geniuses who can cultivate to the Soul Master level before the age of twelve have simple backgrounds?"

"Also, didn't I tell you not to call me Young Master in the academy? We are sisters."

"Yes, Sister Ning!" Wu Feng obediently agreed, but the resentment in her gaze towards Wu Xuan didn't dissipate much.

Freshman Class Nine was on the second floor of the freshman teaching building.

As soon as Wu Xuan came downstairs and left the teaching area, he saw a large group of loosely organized students standing on the Shrek Academy playground.

An elderly woman of medium build with white hair turned expressionlessly to the group of students and said indifferently, "Those whose names I call, step forward: Cheng Cheng, Qiu Jianyao, Tang Dao, Shangguan Chentian, Lin Zheyu, Zhuge Yun, Tai Long, Tang Ling, and Yun Xiaopiao."

"The nine of you can pack your bags and leave the academy. From this moment on, you are no longer students of Shrek Academy. Shrek Academy doesn't need opportunistic students. Having talent but lacking a good and upright mindset will only bring disaster, not help, to any country once you've trained them."

The freshmen of Class 9, who had just come downstairs, felt a chill run down their spines upon hearing the old woman's words.

Wu Xuan glanced coldly in Zhou Yi's direction and turned away. Five of these nine were two-ring Great Soul Masters, and she was expelled just like that? This old woman Zhou Yi was as disgusting as ever! Only she could treat genius students like dogs.

Wasn't this old woman supposed to make a bet with Teacher Mu? Well, let's do it then; he was best at going with the flow.

The students from Class 9 behind them shuddered at the sight and quickened their pace, afraid of being noticed by the old woman.

The Soul Fighting Zone is a very important area in Shrek Academy, located in the northwest corner of the Martial Soul Department, near Shrek City.

It's a place frequently visited by many senior students. Various competitions can be held here, with dedicated teachers acting as referees, responsible for determining winners, protecting students, providing aid and treatment, and so on.

Of course, all of this requires a fee.

For each Soul Fighting match, both sides must pay at least ten gold soul coins as venue fees. Yet, many students still enjoy it immensely. This is because there are no restrictions on fighting here, and there's no need to worry about excessive force causing danger, as the teachers acting as referees will carefully control the intensity. Furthermore, winning matches in the Soul Fighting Zone will earn certain academic credits, which will add points to the grade-level exams.

After the fourth year, Soul Fighting credits are mandatory for advancing to the next grade. For example, to advance from fourth to fifth year, at least ten matches in the Soul Fighting Zone against opponents of the same grade are required. Advancing from fifth to sixth year requires even more. After sixth grade, Soul Battle Credits become especially important for advancing to the Inner Academy.

The Soul Battle Zone is open to all students, but a fee of one silver soul coin is required.

However, if used for teaching purposes, both participating in and watching matches are free.

The Soul Battle Zone is hexagonal, roughly the size of Shrek Square, with a large open space in the center for students to compete. Surrounding it are concentric circles of seats, accommodating approximately three thousand people.

Mu Jin arrived at a viewing platform, where two teachers with Soul Saint cultivation levels were already beside him: one a healing-type Soul Saint, and the other a power-attack-type Soul Saint.

Looking around at everyone, seeing that everyone was present, Mu Jin didn't bother with further words: "Wu Xuan, as class monitor, should set an example. You'll be the first to go."

Wu Xuan, who had just sat down, reluctantly stood up and walked along the passageway towards the Soul Battle Platform.

Mu Jin continued, looking at the students of Class 9, "What I said before still holds true: whoever can defeat Wu Xuan can take his place. Anyone who wants to challenge him can step forward now. If not, then I will designate an opponent."

"I'll go!" Before the others could react, a clear voice rang out, and someone jumped onto the fighting platform.

Wu Xuan was speechless when he saw who it was; it was his roommate.

"Okay!" Mu Jin then opened the folder in her hand, made a few marks with a pen, and said, "Wu Xuan, Qian Guming! You two stay in one corner of the arena. You can only release your martial spirits after I say the match has started."

"Alright, you little rascal! I didn't realize you were the most rebellious one." Wu Xuan smiled and cracked his knuckles.

Qian Guming quickly waved his hand and said, "I don't object to you being the class monitor, but I'm naturally not convinced if someone my age is stronger than me."

"Haha! Fine! I'll make you submit in a bit." Wu Xuan laughed maliciously.

"The battle begins!"

With Mu Jin's voice, Qian Gu Ming shouted, and a crimson staff materialized from his palm. A pale golden dragon pattern coiled around the twelve-foot-long staff, the intense flames emanating from it making Qian Gu Ming's aura even more formidable.

"Qian Gu Ming, Martial Soul: Crimson Flame Dragon Staff, Level 23 Power Attack Type Battle Soul Master."

Wu Xuan leaned slightly, and with a sudden swing of his right hand, a violent gust of wind swept across the entire battle arena.

"What a powerful Martial Soul! It can even influence the surrounding environment!" Mu Jin exclaimed, feeling the wind slowly gathering around Wu Xuan.

"Wu Xuan, Martial Soul: Wind Element Control, Level 34 Power Attack Control Type Soul Master."

"Power Attack Control Type?" Qian Gu Ming's heart skipped a beat on the arena. He'd messed up! He'd attacked too early!

"Attack! Once I make my move, you won't have a chance," Wu Xuan said calmly.

"Good! First Soul Skill, Boiling Flames!"

Qian Guming shouted, and the flames around his Crimson Flame Dragon Staff suddenly boiled. He then charged straight at Wu Xuan, a long staff engulfed in flames crashing down on Wu Xuan's head.

"Whirlwind Defense!"

Wu Xuan raised his arm slightly, and Qian Guming's strike was directly blocked by an invisible breeze. The staff, so close yet unable to advance an inch, was stopped.

The whirlwind gathered, and Wu Xuan threw a punch, the powerful wind blowing Qian Guming back nearly ten meters.

"Second Soul Skill, Crimson Flame Strike!"

Qian Guming steadied himself, his second soul ring lit up, and the Crimson Flame Dragon Staff in his hand shot out like a blazing line of fire, hurtling towards Wu Xuan.

"Quick reaction!" Wu Xuan chuckled, lightly tapping his toes and leaning back to retreat swiftly. As he retreated, Wu Xuan slightly raised his right hand, and a cyan halo rapidly gathered at his fingertips under the guidance of his spiritual power.

"Wind Dragon!"

With a crisp clang, a wisp of emerald-black wind flew from Wu Xuan's fingertip.

The instant it flew, under Wu Xuan's powerful mental manipulation, this wisp of emerald-black wind began to expand rapidly.

In just a few breaths, the wind had expanded into a lifelike wind dragon over five meters long.

"Whoosh!" The wind dragon flicked its tail, knocking away the long staff. The next moment, as the wind dragon lunged towards Qian Guming, it self-destructed, disintegrating and transforming into a whirlwind that blew Qian Guming off the Soul Arena.

"I lost!" Qian Guming said, getting up rather dejectedly.
