Cherreads

Chapter 12 - Mystery of the Eerie Forest

The way opened and revealed the beautiful destiny. Large trees, mysteriously shading different seasons. Some were dry as in tormenting deserts, some were glittering with cherry blossoms, while some were large like evergreen trees. The sight displayed ahead of Leon and Faf was no less than a dream.

"Unlike the outskirts, what's inside the Tergoray Nols is beautiful" Faf whispered.

"Surprisingly…." Leon sighed

Leon and Faf were close to the cliff edge, breathing the unnaturally fresh air. The edge was a see through to an exaggerated site. Tiny butterflies were flying with the wind, leaving the trails of glitters in the warm air. Paragrid- a seven to eight feet long bird was the assistance in the air. A large "mountain turtle" came in, bashing the firm soil into its foot marks. A mountain turtle moves extremely slow with a mountain at its back. It displaces the mountains, and makes it a completely new habitat to live on. A few metres in a day was the fine displacement of the large amphibian.

"Faf, do you see those abundant infrastructures on the top of that turtle?" Leon questioned.

"Well, I can see something resembling to what you asked"

"Early scriptures suggest, Tergoray Nols was once a place where many civilizations grew. One among them were the 'Turtle Hoaders', living on its back for their entire life"

"So why are they resembling ruins ?"

"Well, a mythological beast appeared that led to the extinction of human race in the forest"

"What kind of beast would have done that?"

"A Emberal Dragon. Reckless and cruel beast summoned for massacre of generations"

"Interesting…." Faf couldn't respond more, as he kept gazing at the turtle.

The forest was full of unique and exquisite vegetation and animals. It was embarked by moist and fertile soil and with a bright tormenting sun as the light source. The forest was large enough to get lost in, and that was why a lenient plan was necessary. Leon sat quietly resting under a large canopy right at the cliff edge.

"What is the next step, brother?" Faf questioned.

"In the afternoon, when the sun is at its peak, we will know the path to be followed" Leon answered with a warning smile "come here, sit beside me, Faf"

Faf, who was restless, quickly accepted the command and acceded to sit. Settling his head to the hard cork, Faf thought to ask

"I reluctantly felt an urge to ask you something, brother" he waited for the reply

"And what is it?"

"Now, we are a happy family, we love each other. But before ...when you were new…you knew nothing about us. You were small and messed up too. How… I mean how did you trust us, in fact I would ask why you trust us. Why did you take all the burden on yourself and led the family like it was your own? How did…."

"Calm down there young man" Leon patted Faf, which slower the racing beats "let me tell you a secret"

Leon paused and glared right into Faf "I have an abominant power to read and understand people"

A mild silence spread around. Faf was feeling a little relaxed after hearing those refined words. He felt the trust hidden in those intricate thoughts.

The time passed by and the sun marked the peak of the sky. Large manly rocks started ascending from the forest soil. The fine structures were the gates to the herbal forest. Leon and Faf wrapped their bags, and were ready to leave when they saw the unreasoning tension.

It was suffocating for them…. The environment was changing as the clear sky started turning red. The tree leaves were shedding, and they were dry dead. Animals all around were melting and exploding into their intergal blood and flesh. The site was truly dictating brutality and genocide.

"What is this massacre" Faf turned to Leon, finding him stunned in shock.

Faf was devastated too as he felt the terror and fear running inside Leon. He knew the territory was marking domination of a mythological beast.

"It's here" Leon took a deep breath "The Emberal Dragon is coming for us"

The snort came, large and heated enough to engulf the forest. The sight was turning blood red, as if the forest was predicting the vast devastation. Far away from the cliff, into the forest, there rose a large dragon. His scales sharp and eyes glimmered in historic depth. There was no scar, as if it was never tamed or scratched. Snirling around looking for its prey, which he could smell far off from the sight. That is when it turned…it turned straight towards Leon. It was angry and indignitant of the trespassers who just trespassed into the forest. The forest no one dared to turn to…no one dared to step into. Leon's eye locked with the Emberal.

"We need to run," Leon whispered. Accepting the command, Faf turned around to head out of the forest, only to be smashed and held by Leon in his firm curl of arm. Jumping from the cliff into the forest, diving straight into the cistern of death.

Faf was devastated. He didn't know Leon was this potent- jumping off from the cliff was obviously a shady slip to end. Landing firmly on the ground creating large craters by the impact, Leon rushed towards the eastern end of the forest. The dragon, using its predator intellect, tried to overtake Leon, but failed to do so. But it had more options up its sleeves. Another fierce breath, deadly enough to engulf a large patch of the forest. Running away from the snort was beyond human comprehension, so Leon had to draw it out. The weapon everybody feared, the weapon signified to be welded by the Revenant- the sickle was summoned right into Leon's hand. It was a breathtaking summon as even the strongest creature flinched to attack. Faf who saw it for the first time was stunned at the sight, but he wasn't as disbelieved as he should be. Leon held the fire from the breath through his sickle. It was continuously supplied with the energy from the paths of Eternal Deity. When the dragon had to finally inhale, as his breath gave up- Leon swiftly fled away, taking Faf with him. They rushed in deeper, much deeper before the dragon could catch up. But there was a major infirmity. The path had an end diving straight into the valley. It was purely a dead end, an end either way as the fierce beast was right behind.

"Brother, keep running" Faf shouted

"There's a dead end" Leon was loud enough to breeze through the air.

"Trust me" Faf was firm with his words

Trusting the companion he decided to behold his journey with- Leon decided to brush towards the valley. The Emberal beast was close as it briskly coped up. Right at the moment when Leon was about to fall with Faf, a dark portal opened straight beneath their legs. It sucked them and transported straight at a position trailing the beast. They were far behind him. The dragon fumbled and was shocked to notice it. He soon sensed the transferred energy but knew they were long gone. Leon didn't stop, but was surely struck by the question about the portal Faf opened. It simply suggests the Paths Faf chose. He wasn't a simple being himself anymore. He was, which Leon was unaware about, was stranded too on his unknown journey.

Barely escaping, Leon and Faf came across a waterfall which had a secret path submerged within. The fall wasn't straight; it was subdivided into thin streams falling from each curve of a circular rocky valley. Hoping to hide their smell and energy through the thick flow of the fall, they ventured in. Also hoping to prevent any interaction from biological beings they stepped deep inside.

But the sight overhauled into a vivid tribe. It was startling….

People living inside the abandoned forest….

But the people were known….

Leon felt a sense of relatability with them….

That's when he noticed- those were the people from the town of "Light of Canals"....
