Chapter 10 - The Price of Failure

Nobu and Beru awoke in a dim, cramped room. The ceiling was cracked, the air smelled of salt and damp wood. Their bodies ached as if crushed by the weight of the ocean.

They tried to sit up—pain shot through their ribs.

Before they could speak, the door creaked open.

A young woman stepped in holding two bowls of soup.

"You finally woke up," she said softly.

"You've been unconscious for two days."

Nobu and Beru exchanged a shocked look.

Two days…

Their mission…

Their men…

They had failed.

Beru clenched his fists.

"We became overconfident. That's our punishment."

Nobu lowered his head, guilt burning like fire in his chest.

"It's our fault… we were careless."

A Small Island… A New Fate

When they stepped outside, they discovered the truth:

Their shipwreck had thrown them onto a remote island.

The family who saved them lived in poverty—just one small house with only two rooms.

A couple… and two daughters.

One glance.

That was all it took.

Nobu locked eyes with the elder daughter—

and his heart, hardened by years of hatred and war, suddenly felt alive again.

She blushed.

He looked away.

But their hearts had already been claimed.

Days turned to weeks.

One night under moonlight, Nobu confessed.

"I don't know how long I can stay… but I like you. Only you."

Her cheeks turned red, her voice trembling.

"I feel the same."

They secretly married—only Beru stood witness.

It was the first time Nobu smiled genuinely in years.

Hope… Destroyed

Two months later, terrible news arrived.

Nobu's gang was attacked by a rival organization—

and many were killed.

"We must go," Beru urged.

Nobu's eyes darkened.

"What about her? My wife?"

"If they find out about her… she will be the first they target."

Nobu hated it.

He wanted her safe—

far from blood and blades.

So he left in the dead of night.

Leaving only a letter:

"I'll return in one week. Please wait for me."

When she woke up, she pressed the letter to her heart, smiling through tears.

She had something special to tell him—

She was pregnant.

One Year Later…

But Nobu never returned.

A year passed…

and she gave birth to twin sons with white hair and intense eyes.

They were the only pieces of Nobu she had left.

Then—

BANG!

Armed men broke into the house.

Her parents fought back bravely—

But steel cut through hope.

The clan had found out.

Nobu's real family—Misaki Clan.

They kidnapped Nobu's wife and children to use them as a chain around his neck.

Betrayed by Fate Again

Nobu received the news from his spy…

He dropped to his knees.

"This… is all my fault… If I had stayed… if I protected them…"

Beru grabbed his shoulders.

"We will save them, brother. Together."

But that night…

Nobu couldn't sleep.

He stared at the moon and made his choice:

"If we both go, we might both die.

But if I go alone… Beru can live."

Quietly—

with nothing but his rage—

Nobu set out alone.

The Fall of the Lone Wolf

He infiltrated the Misaki territory in the shadows…

But he underestimated them.

Warriors surrounded him from every direction—

like wolves tearing into a wounded beast.

He had no katana.

No strength left.

He fought until his bones cracked, until every heartbeat felt like fire—

But numbers crushed power.

A final blow struck his skull—

Everything turned black.

"Dispose of the corpse," someone ordered.

They tossed him into a filthy garbage pit

as if he were nothing.

Nobu's journey…

had reached its darkest point.

But—

A beast does not die so easily.
