Chapter 22 - Capital

Kiana moved into the room with the broken door, on a different floor from Evan's dorm. In truth, she didn't have many options. As an intruder who hadn't entered through normal means, Kiana naturally didn't have a dorm ID card. Even if she wanted to move into another room, she would have to use brute force to break the door.

However, Kiana didn't yet realize what this meant. She stood to the side, watching Evan make the bed for her, and just wanted him to leave quickly so she could lie down and sleep. After eating and drinking her fill, she should rest well; this was a principle Kiana had always adhered to.

Although the girl didn't directly ask him to leave, Evan could guess her thoughts from her expression and actions. He said one last thing.

"The bathrooms are at both ends of the hallway on each floor. The utility room is next to the bathroom, and there's a washing machine inside. You don't need me to teach you how to use a washing machine, do you?"

"I don't."

Of course, Kiana knew how to use one. Back when she was running around the wilderness with her dad, they would put their dirty clothes in a bag and use the washing machine at a hotel in a nearby town. A guy like Siegfried, who was lazy about everything besides combat, would never wash their dirty clothes by hand.

With Evan's departure, Kiana's room fell silent. She stealthily peeked out, and after confirming that Evan had really gone upstairs, she went to the bathroom and utility room to take care of her personal hygiene, just as he had said. Finally, when she was comfortably lying in bed, ready to sleep, Kiana looked at the broken door she had kicked, which couldn't be closed at all, and fell into deep thought.

Doesn't this mean that if Evan wanted to, he could attack me in the middle of the night? I have no sense of security at all!

If only Evan were a pretty girl. Then, Kiana wouldn't have so many worries. She might even find a chance to proactively attack him, but he wasn't.

After struggling for a long time, Kiana rummaged through the backpack she used to carry her personal belongings, took out a thin, transparent thread and a small bell, and tied it to the bottom of the broken, ajar door.

This was the simplest warning device her dad had taught her to use when sleeping in the wild. If a person or animal touched the thread, the bell would ring. Her dad had also told her that once she could sense danger approaching before the bell rang, these two items would lose their purpose.

However, even now, Kiana couldn't do that.

If that guy, Evan, really tried to sneak into her room in the middle of the night, it would only prove that he was untrustworthy. Her dad had once said that the friendlier a man acted towards a woman, the more problematic he was. And in Kiana's eyes, Evan was being way too nice to her. So, besides normal gratitude, she also maintained a basic level of vigilance.

Also, Dad seemed so experienced. He was so clear about all the details and principles. He's amazing. How did he accumulate so much life experience?

After letting her thoughts wander for a while, Kiana silently looked at the defensive measure she had set up, recalled her various interactions with Evan, and pursed her lips with complex feelings.

She lay back down on the bed, feeling the comfort of the newly bought bedding and sheets. Kiana let out a soft breath, and then, slept.

Upstairs in the male dormitory, Evan, who had returned to his own room, was naturally unaware of Kiana's small actions and thoughts. He was training his body.

Because he now had seven Stigmata, Evan wasn't pushing himself as hard as before. If he continued to live like that, he felt he would develop some personality problems before the Third Honkai Eruption even arrived. After ensuring he had a steady way to improve his strength, Evan had relaxed a bit.

And that steady method of improvement was the Friendship Supply.

Evan opened the virtual interface as usual and his gaze fell on the friendship point counter. The number had increased by twenty.

Undoubtedly, these added friendship points came from Kiana. Just like with Mei initially, Kiana had brought him a gain of twenty points.

Back then, after only two meetings, his relationship with Mei had progressed rapidly, and the friendship points he gained from her had jumped to eighty, and then to the current ninety [-70].

Would the friendship points from Kiana increase tomorrow?

Evan wasn't too obsessed with it, nor would he try to force his relationship with Kiana forward.

For most people, it's hard to accept someone who suddenly appears and constantly tries to curry favor with you. Everything needs a limit. In fact, in his treatment of both Mei and Kiana, Evan had already somewhat crossed that limit.

However, Mei had been alienated by others because of her father's problems, and the somewhat suspicious Evan was lucky enough to be accepted. And now with Kiana, Evan had originally intended to be more careful, but who knew that Kiana would be out of touch with her father and homeless? Evan naturally couldn't just sit by and do nothing, so he directly let her move into his dormitory building.

By the way, given Kiana's situation, how did she end up transferring to Senba Academy later? Evan didn't believe that some high-level person at Senba Academy just ran into her on the street, felt sorry for her, and let her enroll.

As expected, it must have been Otto Apocalypse pulling the strings from behind the scenes. As for his purpose...

Evan let out a breath, no longer thinking about those conspiracies. With his current strength, dealing with ordinary Honkai Beasts shouldn't be a problem; he might even be able to take one out with a single punch. But he wasn't so arrogant as to think he was invincible. At least, he didn't have the capital to change much yet.

But, as time went on, the day he possessed that capital would not be too far away.
