The fear spiking through the bond was overwhelming. Anya stood, needing distance from Kaelan's rising panic over the Hybrid revelation.
"Your fear is distracting me," she stated, wrapping her arms around her chest. "Control your emotions, Alpha."
Kaelan slammed his hand onto the desk, the loud noise silencing her. "You are not here to counsel me. You are here to help me eliminate the threat." He walked toward her, his face a mask of primal command.
"The Hybrids know your company. They know you. Who in your past would align with them?" he demanded.
Anya stiffened, her protective shield going up. "That is irrelevant. My past is none of your business."
Kaelan reached out, gripping her chin, forcing her to look at him. His blue eyes blazed. "Your past is everything. It is why you hate my kind. Alpha Command: Tell me the truth about why the Lycans destroyed your family."
The Command was a thunderclap. Anya's entire body seized, the powerful compulsion twisting her stomach. Her mouth opened, ready to betray the memory she had guarded for years. She fought it with every ounce of will she possessed, tears of pure defiance springing to her eyes.
"No," she managed, the single word agonizingly torn from her throat.
Kaelan stared, shocked. No human had ever successfully resisted an Alpha Command of this intensity.
