Chapter 8 - Importance Of Close-Combat - Chapter 8

The next morning in the next class, Linda brought her students to an open courtyard big enough for all the people.

The students went from side to side with their teammates, Micheal standing next to his friends that he met and spoke to; they all felt a little bit different than yesterday.

It seemed like they too noticed something about their understanding of the Mind Method.

At the same time, Linda clapped her hands to gather the attention, and then she started speaking in a serious tone of voice.

"Most of the mystics that are dumb do not care about their physicality and are not capable of performing physical arts."

"It is true that most of the time Mystics would not need any kind of physical arts, but when you need it, you need to know how to defend yourself in close combat and have some sort of physical capability."

"Most of the time, Mystics who have not trained in close combat and are not fit would get decimated against close-combat fighters in seconds before they have any chance to protect themselves."

"Do not forget when starting. Physical capabilities of individuals are more effective than mystic acts or most of the behaviors..."

Linda then smiled as she looked at the students for some time and asked.

"Who would tell me the reason for it?"

"I will grant one hour of private lesson to whoever answers this question."

With the word and prize from Linda, everybody thought hard. Having a teacher to themselves for one hour is a really big deal for them.

They can ask many things about Mystics and the incoming trials andmay get an idea from their teacher.

Michael looked at everybody and then smiled.

He raised his hand; Linda looked at him for a moment and grinned as she said.

"Micheal, do tell me."

Michael nodded and started speaking.

"I believe student-level mystics are weak against the physical combat experts at the start because of the fact that we are slower and not that expert at using our mystic behavior and mystic act."

Linda listened, but she said nothing. As she expected more, which Michael continued.

Most of the other students also thought the same thing, so for one second, they thought that Michael was an arrogant man if he thought that with just this much he could get the prize for himself.

Michael then continued.

"This is because we are learning to use our mind for the first time, but we are all accustomed to using our body in some way or another; it is much easier to add expertise of martial arts to something we know instead of something we don't know."

With these words, almost all students gulped and started thinking.

Meanwhile, Linda grinned and nodded.

"Good job, you are correct!"

"After the class, you can come to my room for one hour of private class."

After Linda said these words, a simple physical exercise class started. Linda taught them some grappling techniques and blocking defensive techniques.

While Micheal and others practiced, they all noticed that their ability to understand something, remember it, and copy it all improved so much that they did not expect it.

Most of the students were never trained in combat and did not trust themselves when it came to learning combat techniques, but after training for some time, they noticed that due to the fact that they had learned the Mind Method to some degree, their mental power worked in their favor.

Everything has changed.

When they see an action and technique, they can remember it easily, and they can act on it; their reaction time and other things were slightly improved.

While all of them learned and experienced these things, Micheal could not help but whisper to himself.

"If we can learn new things with such speed, how would Wisp-level and above Mystics learn?"

"What would the world look like seen from their eyes?"

Micheal could not help but think about these things; from the moment he started using his mental power, his understanding, his observation, and everything about himself underwent a qualitative change.

If he feels like this with just 3.1 points of mental power, how is he going to feel at 7.0 or at 15.0?

It would be dumb to think that the difference between 3.0 mental power and 6.0 mental power is just double.

"When I arrived at the Freedom Mind, I had around 2.7 to 2.8 mental power; now I have 3.1."

"The difference is about 0.3 to 0.4 points, but when I arrived here, my mental power and understanding were not much different from an ordinary individual and a mystic student."

The difference was too much; he cannot imagine how a Wisp-level mystic would feel and know just by looking at the student-level mystics, not to mention ordinary people.
