Chapter 5 - Zombie

My whole body was trembling. Every time I tried to open my mouth, it shut by itself, a cold knot forming in my throat. After a long silence, I finally managed to speak:

"W‑what...?"

The only word that came out of my mouth was that.

"Come on, Yhazem," said the voice. "You killed him. You did something you shouldn't have that day."

This voice... it wasn't Edward's. Someone else was speaking.

"Ah, sorry. I'm Kendrick," the man said, casually as if we had met before. "Your teacher knows me well. After all, I'm his best student. By the way, about your brother... he's dead." He smiled as he raised his lips. "And by my hand. If you had seen his begging... honestly, it was pretty funny."

I didn't want to believe those words. My world came crashing down. I collapsed to my knees; tears started falling to the ground.

If... if I had never earned that damned money... none of this would be happening now.

I started hitting myself. I hit, I hit... as I kept hitting, the surroundings turned into a bloodbath.

"Alright," Kendrick said, sounding bored. "That's enough. It's your turn, Yhazem. Time's up."

He pulled a button from his pocket. As he touched it, the giant boxes in the hangar opened with a heavy sound. Dead bodies began to fall to the ground.

I tried to get up. I wanted revenge. But an invisible weight pressed down on my shoulders; my veins were throbbing, my breath was cut off. It felt like the ground was pulling me in.

Just when I managed to break that pressure and get up, Kendrick spoke again:

"Interesting... So you have that much power? Then stay here. EverZombie, wake up!"

When the voice was released, a wave of power slammed me back to the ground.

BOOOOM!

The ground cracked open; a giant hole formed. From it, a massive monster, made of dozens of dead bodies and countless limbs, emerged. It was... a demon.

"Hey, EverZombie," Kendrick said. "The bodies here are yours. Kill the living prey."

The zombie turned its head and looked at me, then let out a terrifying scream. I covered my ears, but I couldn't stand it; my ears began to bleed.

If I hadn't covered them, I would probably be deaf by now.

When the scream stopped, I realized nothing happened. Slowly, I grinned.

"Is this it, you bastard?"

"No," said the demon's voice this time.

"NOT YET."

Then it shouted:

"Wake up, my slaves! Hunt him down!"

Dozens of demons rose from the ground rapidly. Their eyes turned bright red. They all started walking toward me.

I was scared. I was trembling. I wanted to run.

But I couldn't.

Not without taking my brother's revenge...

Not without bringing those bastards down...

I COULD NEVER run.
