Chapter 3 - 3.The Priests and the Anti-Mainstream One

[You have been adopted by a famous old priest in Uruk.]

[Your name remains the same as your original one: Meilin.]

[Days passed, and you behaved like any normal baby—playing, crying, even laughing.]

[Your adoptive grandfather, Basu, spoiled you endlessly.]

[Years passed, and at the age of 6, the physical traits of your true body slowly began merging into this one.]

[Your development took a very different turn from the boys of Uruk—your physique became extremely slender!]

Meilin: Hiks… my hope is gone… (╥﹏╥)

[Under the guidance and care of Grandpa Basu, you grew up peacefully in the Temple.]

[As you grew older, your extraordinary maturity and intelligence, far surpassing other children, even shocked your grandfather.]

[He began teaching you magic. The magic of the age of gods was astonishing! You couldn't help but be amazed seeing flames appear in Grandpa Basu's hand without a single chant.]

[You absorbed the sacred magic he taught like a sponge soaking in water.]

[Because of that annoying Goddess's blessing, your magic talent knew no limits. Your capacity shocked even your grandfather—it was infinite?!]

[That terrifying fact was carefully hidden by Grandpa Basu, and you were allowed to roam freely.]

[Time passed quickly.]

[In the blink of an eye, sixteen years had gone by.]

[The city of Uruk remained as peaceful as ever.]

As night fell, countless stars twinkled like eyes watching over the majestic city of Uruk.

At the same time, in the heart of the city-state, in a side chamber of the temple dedicated to the gods—

Under the glow of a burning firepit—

With black hair and black eyes, and a youthful appearance, Meilin held a flat clay tablet used for recording inscriptions.

He carefully carved words onto it with a small blade.

"Meilin, thank you for the hard work on copying this worship text. It will be used for tomorrow's ceremony."

Beside him, a deep and raspy voice said—one as old as the man himself:

"I am already old, and my sight is failing. From now on, the position of High Priest will be passed on to you."

It sounded like one of those fake promises bosses tell the next generation, but Meilin knew the old man wasn't lying.

He really was old. His body could no longer endure the responsibilities of being Uruk's High Priest—a position of great importance.

Hearing this, Meilin quickly lifted his head and replied:

"Don't worry. This is what I should do… Grandpa."

"You've grown, Meilin." Basu sighed softly, then slowly stood up. His thin, frail body wrapped in the linen robes of a high priest wobbled, his messy hair and beard trembling.

"You may continue. I won't disturb you anymore. Rest well. I want you to lead the ceremony in my place tomorrow."

"If only the King were as calm as you…" He muttered with regret and helplessness as he walked toward the door.

But Basu knew it was impossible.

Everyone in this land knew that Gilgamesh, the current king of Uruk, was arrogant, uncontrollable, and brave enough to express his displeasure and disdain not only toward his subordinates and people—

But even toward the gods.

Of course, the old man's mixture of relief and helplessness came from his age, declining health, and fading eyesight. He could no longer read what Meilin carved—and he had no idea that this pretty young man was about to do something absolutely insane.

What Meilin carved was not a worship text at all.

Instead, it was a document—

A very "strange" one.

A suggestion addressed to the king in the form of a subject's petition.

Every sentence carried Meilin's regret toward Uruk, his sympathy for the people, and his contempt for Gilgamesh, the young tyrant…

Not only was it disrespectful—

It was extremely disrespectful.

Meilin didn't intend to participate in any worship ceremony.

He just wanted to thoroughly roast that arrogant king.

"With this, I should be able to leave my name in the records of the human throne… and then I can die peacefully, right?"

Feeling a bit guilty for hiding the truth from his grandfather, Meilin escorted him out of the room and returned to the stone tablet. Under the flickering firelight, he stared at the words and couldn't help but laugh.

He didn't write these words for the sake of the country or the people.

He wrote them for the panel's mission.

[Mission: Make your name famous in this simulation and receive entry rewards that can be brought back to the real world.]

Imagine… if I could bring back those 3 Entries to the main body—HAHAHAHA. I'd be unbeatable.

For that, I'll do it!

Meilin clenched his small fist and looked up at the night sky.

Given all the conditions, he had to check everything again thoroughly…

Make sure he scolded Gilgamesh hard enough.

Ideally, the king should be angered to the point of losing control.

He could not afford to make any mistake.

Keeping that mission in mind, Meilin grabbed the carving knife, sat beside the fire, and began reviewing his inscriptions carefully.

Time passed, and a faint light slowly appeared in the once-dark night outside the window.

At dawn, a ray of light pierced the darkness.

Daylight had arrived.

The once-quiet city of Uruk began to fill with people walking along its earthen and stone streets.

Meilin swayed slightly as someone bumped into him, pulling him back from his deep concentration.

"Priest Meilin,"

A young temple servant called respectfully,

"The old priest wishes for you to go to the Pantheon; the festival is about to begin!"

He realized in shock that it was already daytime.

"I understand." Meilin held the stone tablet tightly and nodded. "I will go immediately."

He jogged toward his private bath, unaware of the servant's reaction.

"Even after seeing her every day… she's still unbelievably beautiful. Not even the gods could compare."

"What a shame…"

The young servant let out a helpless sigh, unable to stop himself from imagining a breathtakingly beautiful young woman sitting alone at the altar.

"I could never get someone like her…"
