When Kakashi announced the day was over, Naruto finally snapped.
"Kakashi-sensei, this counts as ninja work?! Catching cats, pulling weeds, walking dogs, painting fences… it's so boring! I want real missions! The kind where I can show my skills, protect everyone, and become a hero, dattebayo!"
Even Sasuke, surprisingly, agreed. "These low-level tasks don't help my training at all. They're a waste of time."
Sakura was exhausted too, and she echoed them. "Yeah yeah, Kakashi-sensei, when do we get higher-rank missions?"
Kakashi just stayed his usual lazy self and waved it off. "Come on, come on… as new genin, building experience is important. These basic jobs are part of your training too. Step by step, step by step."
He brushed them off and immediately found an excuse. "Ah, right—I just remembered I have some personal business. Same time and place tomorrow. Go home and rest. Dismissed!"
Before Naruto could protest, Kakashi vanished with a poof in a Body Flicker.
"Hey! Kakashi-sensei!!" Naruto yelled at empty air, hopping mad.
Sasuke and Sakura could only look helpless.
In the end, the three worn-out genin said goodbye and headed home.
…
But Kakashi didn't go home.
He didn't even bother with dinner.
He body-flickered straight to a heavily guarded, hidden place inside Konoha:
The ANBU archives.
The archives were deep underground, with two masked ANBU stationed at the entrance.
When Kakashi appeared, one of them stepped forward respectfully. "Kakashi-senpai."
Kakashi nodded, face grim.
"I need to search some records."
The ANBU didn't dare delay. He opened the thick iron door. "Yes, senpai. Please enter."
Though Kakashi had officially left ANBU to become a jonin instructor, everyone knew he was still one of the Third Hokage's most trusted men, often handling secret tasks.
So he still had clearance.
Kakashi walked in without a word.
The place was exactly like he remembered—rows of towering shelves filled with scrolls and files recording Konoha's deepest secrets, forbidden jutsu, and the darkness no one spoke about.
He went straight for the section labeled "Genjutsu-Type Records," and began flipping through scroll after scroll.
He had one goal:
Find any clue connected to last night's bizarre dream.
He was convinced it wasn't a simple dream at all.
It was far more likely some rare, terrifying jutsu acting on the mind—some special genjutsu, or a forbidden technique like one.
He combed through every record on mental attacks, dream invasion, memory reading, shared consciousness, even soul-level techniques.
And yet…
Time passed. The sky outside went pitch black.
He almost turned the entire section upside down, but still got nothing.
There was no known jutsu in ANBU's vast archive that could silently pull multiple people into a shared space, play back—or even alter—someone else's dreams with precision, and conjure images the dreamer didn't even know existed.
"How… is there not a single lead…" Kakashi muttered.
Near midnight, he left the archives even more exhausted and returned to his empty home.
He lay on his bed, staring at the ceiling, his mind knotted with anxiety.
If even ANBU's records had nothing similar…
Did that mean the caster's ability was beyond the ninja world's understanding?
Worse still—
That mysterious being seemed to be targeting Naruto.
What did it want with him?
The Nine-Tails?
Or something deeper?
Kakashi's eyelids grew heavier under the weight of doubt and fatigue, and his consciousness began to blur again…

The familiar weightless sensation arrived.
When Kakashi opened his eyes, unsurprisingly, he was back in the dim, eerie screening hall.
"…Sigh." He let out a tiny breath.
So we're doing this again.
This time he didn't panic or frantically search the room like before.
First time's bewildering, second time's routine. With last night's experience, he was calmer now.
He looked around. Sure enough, Sasuke and Sakura were already there, still in their pajamas. They sat a few rows away, wearing resigned, mildly curious expressions.
Looks like they'd realized this wasn't a deadly trap so much as a rule they couldn't resist.
Kakashi greeted them, picked a random seat, relaxed his body, and fixed his gaze on the huge black screen, waiting.
Going by last night, it would light up soon.
And sure enough—
Less than half a minute later—
shhhh—
The screen flared on without warning.
The dream was still centered on Naruto.
