Chapter 9 - Honkai Simulator, are you looking for me? Chapter 9

9. Kiana's Home Tutor?

[Simulation Instance: Twin Paths]

[Simulation Time: 2007 AD, approximately ten years ago]

[Simulation Location: Vienna, Kolosten Town.]

After entering the simulator and once again facing his rapidly progressing life, Gao qi had grown somewhat accustomed to it.

[You lost your parents in a minor Honkai incident at a young age and were subsequently adopted by Schicksal.]

Alright, another orphan—and one adopted by Schicksal at that. Gao qi felt it was nothing short of a miracle that he had grown up healthy without being taken away for experiments.

[To repay Otto's life-saving grace, you decided to dedicate your life to Schicksal. After receiving an education at Schicksal headquarters, you quickly became an external agent responsible for procuring experimental materials.]

"Wait, wait—Otto? I'd admire him? You've got to be kidding me?"

[The simulation system does not incorporate your knowledge of the future into the background simulation.]

The system explained it this way, and Gao qi understood. The "Gao qi" in the simulation background was unaware of the game's plot, which was equivalent to letting his amnesiac self live in this world for many more years.

[You had been working at Schicksal headquarters until recently, when the Archbishop Otto transferred you to Kolosten Town to join a research project related to the Second Herrscher.]

[After the Second Honkai War, Schicksal began attempts to resurrect the Second Herrscher in the outskirts of Kolosten Town. Due to your skill in negotiation, you were assigned another task.]

[The Archbishop ordered you to collect all of Kiana's information and DNA under the pretext of monitoring Schicksal soldiers Siegfried and his daughter. Many before you had already been driven away.]

With the simulation background introduction complete, Gao qi found himself standing at a bus stop, holding two large bags.

The sun was shining brightly, and with noon approaching, the town was sparsely populated, enveloped in an unusual quiet.

Gaoqi glanced at his reflection in the glass and saw that he no longer resembled the high school student from the previous simulation. Instead, he looked like a man in his mid-thirties, unshaven and almost unrecognizable.

"So the age is random..."

He shrugged, worried that one day the simulation might turn him into an old man.

The technological level in 2017 was highly advanced, almost giving off a cyberpunk vibe, but the small town in 2007 still retained a rustic charm.

Kolosten Town was once Schicksal's old headquarters. After the establishment of Schicksal's floating island, the organization continued to use the town as a branch office.

Gao qi acclimated to his new memories while checking the contents of the bags.

One bag was filled with various candies and snacks, while the other contained an assortment of toys—clearly, these were gifts for a child.

Next, Gao qi seriously contemplated his plan of action for this simulation.

In previous simulations, he had no real plan and simply aimed to join Anti-Entropy to become stronger. Unfortunately, the Honkai outbreak occurred prematurely, ruining his plans.

This time, he needed to think carefully, maximize his gains, and—have fun!

After experiencing so many partings and losses, it was easy for a person to become twisted. Gao qi felt that even in simulations, it was important to maintain a positive mindset and keep smiling!

Following his memories, Gao qi looked toward a modest-looking house not far away.

That was where Schicksal's "hero"—Siegfried Kaslana—lived.

As a member of the Kaslana family, one of Schicksal's three great families, Siegfried was one of the few males with an exceptionally high adaptability to Honkai energy.

During the Second Honkai War, he shone brilliantly, holding his own in battles against the Herrscher.

His wife, Cecilia Schariac, the strongest Valkyrie of the "Saint" family, sacrificed her life in the fight against the Herrscher of the Void.

Fortunately, the two had left behind a daughter—Kiana Kaslana, the union of a Saint and a Knight, whose future potential was limitless.

Of course, this was all according to Schicksal's official records, from which Gao qi had even omitted extensive praises of Otto.

So, how did the "hero" Siegfried himself respond to such narratives?

"Get out!"

Along with a loud roar, a rag was thrown directly at Gao qi's chest.

"I don't need anyone to care about us! Go back and tell your Archbishop Otto that I don't need his hypocritical concern. Don't let me see you again!"

A white-haired man, wearing an apron and looking somewhat haggard yet unable to conceal his once-handsome features, was shouting angrily at Gao qi.

"Calm down, Mr. Siegfried. I'm just here following orders. No need to get agitated."

Gao qi remained exceptionally calm in the face of this furious father.

"A single father's life can't be easy. I understand."

Gao qi showed no fear toward Siegfried, whose eyes seemed to spit fire, and walked into the house, placing the two large bags on the coffee table.

The phrase "single-parent family" was like dancing on Siegfried's nerves.

As for why Gao qi dared to banter so boldly with this fierce man who had once beaten up a Herrscher, Gao qi could only say—since when does a son-in-law fear his father-in-law!

Fu Hua is my wife, but does that mean Kiana and Durandal aren't?

Alright, enough of the jokes. Gao qi actually knew that, for the sake of his daughter's healthy growth, Siegfried had temporarily compromised with Otto and naturally couldn't casually attack someone sent by Otto.

"Has Schicksal's membership become so shameless now? You really are Otto's star pupils."

Hearing Gao qi's words, Siegfried grew even angrier.

Meanwhile, Gao qi, like a deliberately provocative lackey, casually picked up an apple from the fruit plate and took a light bite.

"I wouldn't call myself a star pupil. I simply admire Schicksal's heroes, like you, Mr. Siegfried, and Cecilia, who sacrificed her life fighting the Herrscher—"

If his earlier remark was dancing on Siegfried's nerves, this one was deliberately igniting the entire arsenal.

"Shut up, you don't have the right to say her name!"

Whoosh————

Accompanied by a whooshing sound, Gao qi saw a clenched fist rapidly enlarging in his vision.

But he wasn't panicked. His feet, using the "Vermilion Bird Treads on Clouds" technique, slid sharply to the side as he twisted his head away. His hands moved swift as the wind, not meeting force with force, but instead coiling up like a "Blue Dragon Emerging from Water".

Thwack.

His left hand adopted a "Cloudy Mist" posture, his right a "Raging Thunder" stance. Gao qi pinpointed the acupoint on Siegfried's arm and struck it hard, actually managing to halt Siegfried's punch completely.

Of course, Siegfried wasn't using any real strength. If he had channeled even a bit of Honkai energy, Gao qi would have been sent flying long ago.

"Alright, alright. The truth is that damned Otto, fearing the power of your bloodline, launched a Honkai Fission Missile. Lady Cecilia had to sacrifice herself to protect you and the people of Siberia, right?"

Hearing Gao qi blaspheme Otto so bluntly caused Siegfried to pause for a moment, and he retracted his arm.

"You... know the truth?"

Retracting his fist, Siegfried looked strangely at Kōki. In his view, this man before him should be a staunch Otto supporter.

How could such "rebellious" words come from his mouth?

"If you like hearing Otto's dirty laundry, I can talk for three days and three nights."

Rubbing his stinging palm, Kōki spoke candidly to Siegfried.

"In 1955, he betrayed the Valkyrie Ragna and single-handedly forced the rebellion of Schicksal's North American branch, which is now Anti-Entropy.

He conducted massive amounts of Honkai energy-related experiments. Over the centuries, countless Valkyries have died because of him.

Scientific ethics mean nothing to him. You know, your sister-in-law Theresa is a clone..."

Casually reeling off a list of Otto's misdeeds, when it came to cursing Otto, no one could surpass Gao qi.

"W-wait, what did you— Stop!"

The amount of information was a bit much to process. The brain of Siegfried, the rough-and-tumble warrior, nearly short-circuited.

He wasn't sure about the veracity of Gao qi's words, but based on his understanding of Otto, about eighty percent of it was likely true!

"In that case, why have you always supported Otto so much?"

Looking at the man before him, who held no reverence for Otto, Siegfried's anger had, unnoticed, already dissipated, even replaced by a sliver of camaraderie.

"What else can we do? Ditch Otto and have you become the Grand Bishop? You don't have the capability, you know?"

Although Gao qi utterly despised Otto and would never grant him any respect or approval, he had to admit that even though all of Otto's goals were aimed at saving his unrequited love, objectively, he still played a somewhat positive role in the war against the Honkai.

"At least nominally, he stands opposed to the Honkai. He's using your power, that's true, but conversely, you and I are also using his resources to protect the world. Think about it, doesn't that feel a bit better?"

Patting Siegfried on the shoulder, Kōki shoved the rag from his own shoulder into Siegfried's hand.

"How about a deal? You cooperate with my work, and I... will reveal a little secret to you. For example, take a guess, what is the fundamental motivation behind all the evil deeds Otto commits? Or, why did you exhibit a Honkai beast's appearance during the war?"

Smiling at Siegfried, Gao qi stretched out his hand, pinching his thumb and index finger together in a "tiny bit" gesture, waiting for his reply.

"Of course, if you want to learn secrets about our friends in Anti-Entropy, I can reveal a little too—want to know about Einstein's first love?"

Gao qi's greatest weapon remained his knowledge of the "settings," or rather, "lore."

"No, let's not go there..."

Looking at this man, who was about his own age, Siegfried hesitated for a moment, then nodded. Immediately after, he fixed a sharp gaze on Gao qi, issuing a warning.

"Fine, it's a deal. I don't want Otto sending someone else to bother me anymore—I love my daughter very much, Mr. Gao qi. I want her to grow up safe and happy. If I find you filling her head with any strange information or ideas, I will make you pay!"

This man before him, though a subordinate of Otto, held no reverence for him.

Moreover, he seemed to know many secrets that Siegfried himself was unaware of. He even knew about Siegfried's connection to Anti-Entropy and the classified information about his beastial transformation in battle. Siegfried even felt transparent in front of him.

In Siegfried's eyes, he was untrustworthy and inscrutable.

But, this proposal was one he couldn't refuse.

"Then, the deal is settled. Get ready to introduce your precious daughter to her new tutor—I'm quite good with children."

Shaking Siegfried's hand, Gao qi then heard the door behind him being pushed open.

"Dad, I'm home! Today I— Huh? We have a guest? Hello!"

Gao qi saw Siegfried, who just moments ago was like a wrathful guardian deity, instantly soften, turning towards the door with a gentle, fatherly smile.

"Sigh, seeing this makes me want a daughter too."

Shrugging, Gao qi turned around and looked at the girl wearing a pure white dress, her white hair tied into two braids, her blue eyes full of curiosity. He smiled and waved at her.

"Hello, Kiana. I'm a friend of your father's. You can call me Gao qi."

And in his heart, he silently uttered another name.

Hello, Bianka Ataegina.

[Just like that, you became Kiana's tutor, and also her best teacher.]
