Chapter 42 - A Heaven-Defying Score of 0.1 Seconds

The purpose of this test was actually to assess the combat skills of the professionals.

Although the monster's level was set a bit higher, it shouldn't be a problem for a qualified professional.

This setting had been used for many years without any issues.

Typically, the fight would last anywhere from ten seconds to half a minute.

This allowed examiners to gauge the professional's combat ability.

But the problem arose precisely with Morintis.

An instant kill – how could they assess combat skills from that?

"What should we do?" an examiner asked.

Everyone looked towards the middle-aged man in mage robes.

Exams for Mage classes were his domain.

But now, even he was uncertain.

The intended purpose wasn't achieved, which was troubling.

Just then, an elderly man appeared in the room.

"Boss Alistair! What brings you here?"

The examiners immediately bowed respectfully to the newcomer.

Alistair spoke gravely, "I heard a new class appeared this year.I came to see for myself."

The screen showed Morintis.

Alistair looked at it.

"Seems like a fine young man."

The examiners quickly explained what had just happened.

After listening, Alistair said solemnly, "You all want to know just how powerful this new Necromancer class is."

"If the setting for Rare-tier professionals cannot measure its strength,"

"Then set it according to the strength of a Legendary-tier professional and conduct a second test for him."

An examiner voiced an objection, "But that wouldn't be fair to him, and how would we calculate the points?"

Alistair smiled.

"This situation has occurred before. There have been professionals who insta-killed the monster before."

"We'll handle this as a special case.

First, designate him as the top scorer for this test and award him the 100 points for first place."

"For the second test, if he passes, give him an additional 1000 points."

"These 1000 points can come from my personal account."

The examiners hurriedly responded, "Lord Alistair, you jest. How could we let you provide the points?"

"Indeed, we have the points.

We'll do as you say and arrange a second test."

After waiting a moment, another light barrier appeared before Morintis.

Another monster stood behind it, identical in appearance to the last one, but its aura was far more powerful.

[Please proceed with the second test.Kill the monster before you.]

A second test?

Morintis wasn't particularly surprised.

He assumed the rules might be structured this way.

He was completely unaware he was receiving special treatment.

The moment the light barrier vanished, Soul Flame activated.

The mage monster before him died instantly with a wretched cry.

Exactly the same as before.

Another instant kill.

The examiners were shocked for the second time.

They still hadn't discerned anything.

With the setting for a Legendary-tier class, the monster's level exceeded the professional's by 4 levels.

The mage monster Morintis just killed had attributes set for a level 20 monster.

Yet it was still instantly killed.

"That skill... its future potential is immense."

"Could he be wearing some powerful equipment?"

"He's only level 16! What powerful equipment could he possibly have? It's purely the skill's strength."

"What should we do? Continue testing?"

Everyone looked to Alistair.

Since his arrival, he was in charge.

Alistair shook his head.

"No need. Proceed to the second round of the exam."

By now, everyone had finished the first round.

The majestic voice echoed in their ears.

"Main combat class examinees, the first round has concluded."

"Total participants: 632. Passed: 522."

"Results are now being published."

A results ranking appeared before each person.

[Morintis, 0.1 seconds, Points: 100]

[Zoe, 3.2 seconds, Points: 70]

[Sophia, 5.2 seconds, Points: 40]

Morintis was ranked first.

His time was a mere 0.1 seconds.

Second place was a professional named Zoe, with a time of 3.2 seconds.

Sophia was in third place, with a time of 5.2 seconds.

Julian, the Young Guild Master of the Dynasty Guild, ranked fourth with a time of 5.5 seconds.

The top three received 100, 70, and 40 points, respectively.

Everyone from fourth place onwards received only 10 points.

When Julian saw the ranking, he was furious.

"How could I not even make the top three?"

"I should be first!"

"0.1 seconds?

What a joke!

There must be a mistake."

"That score is simply heaven-defying!"

Julian wasn't the only one who thought so.

Many found Morintis's score unbelievable upon seeing it.

Sophia looked at the ranking.

"Amazing! But I won't admit defeat."

Leo wore an exaggerated expression.

"The boss is the boss! Too awesome!

Can't help but admire him."

Morintis unconsciously rubbed his nose.

"Was I a bit too excessive?"

What he hadn't expected was that this seemingly not-too-difficult round had actually eliminated over a hundred people.

The majestic voice sounded again.

"The second round for main combat classes will begin shortly.

Examinees may choose their own difficulty."

"Note: Casualties may occur during the second round.

Please choose according to your ability."

"If you encounter danger during the exam, shout 'I give up'.

Your exam will be terminated.

Your score will be based on your progress at the time of giving up."

The requirements for the second round were reiterated.

Like dungeons, the second round was divided into three difficulties: Normal, Nightmare, and Hell.

Killing monsters on different difficulties awarded different points.

Normal difficulty granted 1 point per kill, Nightmare granted 3 points, and Hell granted 5 points.

The time limit was uniformly 30 minutes.

The second round was a competition to see who could kill the most monsters within those 30 minutes.
