Chapter 232 - Arceus makes his choice

"However..."

Vann Silver's expression, which had softened when he assured Arceus that no one would force him into an unwanted marriage, gradually turned stern again, like a calm lake gathering dark clouds upon its surface as the wind changed direction.

"Ark," he said slowly, "a bird may leave its nest because a storm shakes the branches, but if it remains too long in another tree, the forest begins to whisper."

Arceus lowered his gaze.

Vann continued, his tone firm.

"You ran away from your home and stayed under the roof of an unmarried woman for three days and three nights, with no parents of hers staying with her. Do you understand what will happen if the wrong tongues in the capital begin wagging? A single rumor is like a drop of ink in clear water. At first it seems small, but before long the whole vessel turns dark."

The room fell silent.

Even Noah, who normally cared little for human customs, stood motionless and listened.

Vann clasped his hands behind his back.
