As soon as Liliana was done stating her wish, a new system screen popped up in front of me. The clear conditions were no longer a bunch of question marks, so that's a relief. That feeling was short-lived, however.

'Isn't this… the main goal of the game?'

Rose of Valor was a simple game with a simple premise. The player has to restore Rose of Valor, the knight order, by helping the heroines become stronger and overcome the challenges they meet along the way. The quest practically says that I have to do the same, but there are two small problems.

The first one is that there is no summoning spirits in the story. The second one is that I'm not the protagonist.

'How am I supposed to do it?'

The protagonist of the game is a commoner aiming to become a knight. At first, he is dismissed because of his lacking strength, but after joining Rose of Valor, he discovers his true ability. That ability is the key to raising the heroine's strength, but it was a unique ability only the protagonist has.

'Don't tell me I have to get him here…'

I looked at the kneeling girl once more.

'Yeah… like hell I'm going to do that…'

Sorry, but I have never been a fan of NTR. I wasn't about to bring in another man, have him save the day, and let him win over the heroines. Since they're still looking for help, it's probably safe to assume they have yet to meet the game's protagonist.

'I need to do something so I can claim them before that bastard shows up.'

I was deep in thought when Liliana's gaze caught my attention. Just then, it suddenly occurred to me that she and the others had been kneeling on the floor this entire time I have been thinking.

'How long has it been?'

I had no idea.

"Your wish has reached me, and I will make sure to consider it." Saying that, I motioned for a nearby sofa. "You may take a seat in the meantime."

"You have our gratitude."

The girls bowed their heads and went to sit down. Going by their nervous expressions, it seems that they took what I said as my help not being guaranteed.

'I need to find a solution…'

Surely I wasn't reincarnated here just to guide the story, and if the protagonist was truly necessary to clear the quest, why not reincarnate me in his place?

'The quest…'

The way it was worded makes it sound as if the summoning was a crucial part of clearing it. With that being the case, would I really be summoned and receive that quest if I didn't have the ability to clear it on my own?

'Come to think of it… what are my abilities?'

I do have a system, which means…

'Status...?'

No sooner had I voiced the word in my thought than a system screen appeared in front of me.

'Alright!'

A status screen that can be summoned using just my thought. Just what I needed!

'Now, where is-'

I was about to skip to the Skills section right away when I noticed that nothing was written in the name section. That was the least of my concerns, however.

'Incubus?'

My race was listed as incubus.

'This is… I'm not… I'm not human!?'

As I stared at the word, a small screen appeared.

[

Incubus:

A being who exists to seduce women and drown them in pleasure. Incubi evolve to better attract females of other races. They feed on the Soul Essence gathered by the mates they captivate.

]

'Huh… his… make sense?'

The incubus I know is the male counterpart of the famous demon race, the succubus. Both are creatures known for inducing sexual desires in people, but while the more famous succubi go after men, incubi target women instead.

The shock came to me in three waves. First, I found out that I was no longer human, then I learned I was a demon, and then I realized what kind of demon I am.

'Wasn't I supposed to be a great spirit?'

Did the girls summon a demon by mistake? Are they even aware?

I glanced at the three, wondering if I should ask.

'No, let's not say anything unnecessary.'

If they don't know, all the better. If they figure it out later, I can gaslight them into thinking I thought they already knew, since they were the ones who summoned me.

'Still… an incubus, huh?'

Now I really want a mirror. Am I one of those sexy devils women found irresistible? I do have a massive cannon, so that's one part covered. Seriously, I'm fine as long as I look better than I did in my previous life. I hate to say it, but Ethan Harper was far from the guy she tells you not to worry about.

'So I reincarnated as an incubus…'

I smiled on the inside as I went over the rest of the status screen. Starting as a level 1 wasn't so strange, since I just arrived, but it shattered the part about me being a "great" spirit. I had nothing to compare my stats to, so I decided to ignore them for the time being. Things got a lot more interesting when I went over the titles, attributes, and skills, and as soon as I was done, I got another notification.

Failure of Main Quest «A Maiden's Call»

]

'Wait... doesn't this mean… What!? E rank difficulty, my ass! How the hell is it an E if failure means death!!?'

I tried to resist, but in the end, I couldn't help but hold a hand to my eyes, covering them. The difficulty being so low should mean it's relatively easy to clear, but if that's the case, why would failure lead to death?

'If I fail this, I might as well die, huh? I guess that makes sense...'

I went over everything I learned and organized my thoughts. Knowing what had to be done, I was about to call Liliana so I could quickly clear my first quest in this world, but then I stopped. Looking over my status screen once more, I reconsidered everything.

'No…' I thought, fighting the urge to smile. 'There is a better way…'
