Macbeth Script:
Characters: Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, Witches, King Duncan, Malcolm
Inverness Castle. Night. A resounding storm.
[Enter Lady Macbeth, pacing frantically.]
Lady Macbeth (Samuel):
The King sleeps soundly under our roof… yet you still hesitate?
Why, my love, do you keep me in such suspense, do what you must before the opportunity slips away like a thief in the night.
The crown is ready, and the time has come, yet you refuse to grasp it!
[Enter Macbeth (Mark), deeply troubled]
My lady, I shall not defile my honour by means of taking innocent blood.
For the witches have spoken but I am not a blind man, I see through their lies and dirty works of deception. Their words may tempt but they do not hold the final command, for if fate wills me king then fate shall find me without the dagger.
Lady Macbeth (Samuel):
You have forsaken greatness, nobility, power, and legacy.
Has fear taken you into a lock? Has it clasped you in its arms?
Macbeth (Mark):
You are mistaken, my lady, for it is not fear that holds me up by its mighty right hand, but rather wisdom. Their false prophecies are nothing without my sin to uphold it and let it shine.
Thunder cracks. Torches flicker. Storm becomes mightier.
[Enter, the Three Witches emerge from the dark]
First Witch (JD):
Strong enough to have it all…
Second Witch (JD):
…too weak to take it!
Third Witch (JD):
He turns aside from his destiny, remaining clean from treason, therefore the crown shall slip far from your reach.
Macbeth (Mark):
Begone you evildoers! For the time of your reckoning has come.
No more ridiculous ambitions, for I choose loyalty over treachery.
Thus, making your prophecy unfulfilled.
[The witches hiss back into the dark]
[Enter, King Duncan & Malcolm awakened by the storm]
King Duncan (JD):
Oh, Macbeth, we heard voices while we were sleeping, is all well?
Macbeth (Mark):
Yes, my lord, there is nothing to fear for I am always at your defense keeping guard.
Malcolm (Samuel):
My father thinks high of you, oh Macbeth, I am glad we have such a fine general here in Scotland.
King Duncan (JD):
Very well, I'm afraid the night has called, good night to you all.
The storm rumbles loudly. Danger awaits near.
[Enter, Lady Macbeth slowly creeping up to King Duncan's chamber with a dagger]
Lady Macbeth (Samuel):
Whispering quietly
If my husband lacks the spirit, then I shall be the one who brings us glory.
[Lady Macbeth grips the dagger tightly and begins to swing towards the sleeping Duncan]
[Enter Macbeth, grabbing her arm mid-swing just in the nick of time saving Duncan]
Duncan awakes and learns what is occurring
King Duncan (JD):
Oh, noble Macbeth, how can I ever repay you for your heroicness.
Your name shall be heard and praised all over Scotland for your profound honour, loyalty, and bravery.
Macbeth (Mark):
My lord, tonight I have learned that one's fate does not define their destiny.
If one is in contradiction with their fate, they should fight to change it… as I changed mine.
Lady Macbeth falls to her knees, utterly defeated
Shortly after, Lady Macbeth was arrested, as for Macbeth, he received praise and glory by the whole town and was viewed as the most trustworthy noble man. The witches' prophecies did not come true, becoming bitter losers, and Malcolm was still appointed as Duncan's successor.
Mark, Samuel, & JD
