Chapter 1 - 1: Rain, Rain, and more Rain.

People love to say, when life gives you lemons you make lemonade. But lemons are nothing but bitter and acidic. And Just like the total bitter acidic lemon my life has been nothing but unjust torture, and somehow I'm supposed to make lemonade with those so called lemons. I have no water nor sugar to make the concentrated lemon juice of my life in to a sweet and satisfying lemonade. My parents had left me at an orphanage when I was born. And what did they leave me no letter explaining why, no picture so I could see what they even looked like, they had left was a mere ring. A worthless good for nothing ring, seriously what kind of parents do that. I'll tell you what kind, the kind that don't love their own kid. The kind so self-centered good for nothing bastards that see their own kid as a mere burden to be tossed away like a trash bag. Even worse then them was the foster families they hated me for just being alive they adopted me just to torture me. For years I've had to withstand torture from the so called people who said they would love and cherish me.

Alone I've had to suffer no friends, and no family to share my burden that's how I the great Alex Wolfthorn has lived. Even now I find myself back on the street, eye blackened and swollen, my ribs ache as I fumble my way through the narrow ally ways of down town. A deep gash sit's just above my right knee, blood trickling down soaking through my socks, shoes, and jeans. I know what you're thinking go to the police, tell them about the abuse, the torture tell them of the foster parents. I can tell you from the last twenty or so times I've tried, the police think I'm some kind of boy who cries wolf, they see me as nothing more then a good for nothing liar, a burden. So why should I try anymore, once midnight strikes I will be eighteen and legally on my own. Not like that is going to really changes anything. So I face the next question, why should i keep trying? Fight the good fight, or life will get better, all those people who say some load of garbage saying they don't know half of the suffering I've been through, they don't understand the pain, they can't comprehend my situation. Have they ever had to walk down ally ways, running from an abusive foster parent armed with a kitchen knife, who entire day revolves around causing me pain. No they haven't, because when getting delt their cards in life they got nothing but an easy hand compared to me.

I'm more then hurt, more then frustrated, more then some silly depressed kid who needs medicine or a therapist I'm done with all that. Not even the clouds could hold up for a moment, as a down pour had just started coming down on me.

Alex stopped walking as the rain began to soak every part of him, it was cold, it was numbing. Alex panted as his body was tired, he lost a lot of blood and it was showing. Panting and on the verge of giving up, he had a few minutes before that bastard caught up to him. There in the dark ally coated in darkness he used every ounce of strength just to keep standing. A light barely flickered under his clothes, unnoticed at first. But it began to flicker brighter and stronger with each and every passing second. Alex looked down What the hell is that, pulling back his collar he saw his ring. It now shining bright with a golden light, then right before him space broke. luminescent light shined 'A rift gate? what the hell is happening.' it was like the ring caused a rift to appear and that means his world could change. He could awaken, he could grow stronger and become someone who never would have to feel pain again.

That was the thought going through Alex's head at that moment, as quickly as the light began to shine it was snuffed out. A deep laughter from behind him cold chills instantly ran up his spine. Alex knew it was to late now more then ever, he knew this monster better then anyone. Drake his foster parent for the last three years.

"You really thought you could get away, pathetic. Now why do you hesitate worm. You could have tried to escape through that rift but didn't. You could have awakened, gaining an ability that might have helped. HAHAHAhaha!" Drakes voice scratched at Alex's mind, and before Alex could react he felt a stab deep into his lower back. "HAHAHAHA, now that I've had my fun over the years did you think I would let you live."

Alex fell to his knees, pain shooting through him. 'I couldn't make it' Alex thought. "hmm how should I kill you." drake said as he pulled the knife out from Alex's back. he grabbed Alex's hair making him stand on his knees then stabbed his back again. "I want to make you suffer to your bitter end, i wont allow you an easy death child. I'm still having fun..." Drakes voice trailed off as Alex's mind began to darken, fading into the shadows of the night, the darkness with in. 'maybe this is for the best, soon the pain will end.' Alex thought to himself as he felt the knife enter and exit his body over and over, twisting and carving up his back.

Drake gripped Alex's hair harder "say something, I want you to beg, to plead, why don't you just scream." drake continued as he lost count to how many times he stabbed Alex, he knew the boy didn't have much time left. As drake loosened his grip Alex body crumpled to the ground almost lifeless, still breathing but the light in his eyes dimmed. Drake bent down over Alex the knife still stabbed in his back. "You know what the best part is Alex, I bet you thought of using that rift, I bet you saw a flicker of hope, and now I'm going to use it against you. Let you bleed out inside that gate you hoped so much for. its midnight now, you're eighteen and now you couldn't even awaken if you wanted. It's too late. lucky for me I wont need to clean up the aftermath death's inside a rift gate aren't looked into." Drake stood up gripping Alex's limp bleeding body and tossed him into the gate.

In the elven kingdom of Elarose a princes is getting prepared to take a bath within the Royal springs, to be named and to commune with the sacred tree of their forest.

"I shall go prepare your clothes your highness." a maid with a soft voice bowed as she left the princess there in the royal spring, no one would dare interrupt this sacred long lasting tradition. Amelia slowly stepped into the springs water wither her white gown, with each step she got a little deeper the water a little colder.

As the princess walked toward the center, the air shifted an eerie felling came over the whole place as if something heavier then silence. Amelia stopped in her tracks slowly glancing around chills running up her spine. she clasp her arms around her chest feeling the bumps forming up and down her arms. The air shifted again suddenly hot and cold, Amelia's breath caught as she heard a whisper soft but firm not in her ear but in her mind. "Save him" it said and Amelia turned looking around frantic. 'That was her, that was her voice. I know I heard the mother tree speak to me.' the princess was frantic. Then she heard it again but slightly louder "Save him" though it was still a whisper, "Save who, who do I need to save." the princess said.

As soon as the princess spoke space cracked, the sky darkened and the only light came from twenty feet above the center of the spring. "A portal." fear instantly plagued the princess. The thought of monsters pouring out into the middle of their kingdom scared her. But just as fast as it appeared it disappeared a body falling from the sky left the princess speechless.

Stunned into stillness so much had happened so fast, "SAVE HIM!" the voice yelled the body splashed, and Amelia moved. As if the voice released her from a spell she began rushing toward the center, 'she wants me to save him' she thought as she got close to the center the water turned red. She dove down into the water swimming down. I have to save him, is what she thought as she moved her body as fast as she could.

Her breath held tight the pressure of the water grew heavier and heavier as she got closer and closer to the bottom. As soon as she reached the bottom she felt him. She lifted, and began to swim up kicking off the ground. Her muscles beginning to burn as well as her lungs. What took mere moments to her took forever as if time had slowed and space extended.

Her head came up piercing the surface of the water, She took in a deep breath and yelled "HELP!" her voice carried through the area, she brought the man above water his head limp the water becoming a darker shade of red. 'he's bleeding badly, I need to hurry' Amelia swam back to the shore yelling for help over and over.

Her maid popped out of the bushes, rushing as she heard the screams. "What's wrong princess." the maid said then she saw the body the princess was dragging back and the blood trailing them in the water. "She spoke to me, she wants us to save him." the princess spoke as she went from a swim to a walk as her feet found purchase in the sand.

The maid saw the mans back the stab wounds and something stabbing into the mans back where the blood was pouring from. 'there is no way he is alive' the maid thought.
