BREAKING: Hostile Alien Forces Strike Seattle in Early-Morning Assault

Seattle — January 2nd, 2000

By Harper L. King

SEATTLE — Two days ago chaos erupted across the Pacific Northwest when unidentified alien spacecraft descended on Seattle in a sudden and violent assault that left the city in flames and emergency crews overwhelmed.

The first wave of attack came only hours after the New Years Eve celebration at 3:47 a.m. local time when enormous vessels — described by witnesses as "shimmering spheres the size of fortresses" — appeared without warning above the Space Needle. Within minutes, beams of scorching red light tore through the downtown skyline, igniting buildings and disabling communications.

"I was on my balcony when the sky just… opened," said Angela Ruiz, a resident of Belltown. "A sound like metal tearing filled the air, and then these giant ships appeared in the sky. Then these SUV-sized orbs flew out of the bigger ships and began blinking in and out of the night sky. It was lighting up the Sound." Ruiz went on to describe how she thought it was another New Year's Eve fireworks show, or even a prank. "But it wasn't. People were screaming. Cars were flipping. It was an attack."

National Guard units were mobilized from Fort Lewis, the McChord Air Force Base and Camp Murray but were immediately pinned down near I-5 by a shimmering barrier the aliens deployed around the downtown core. Fighter jets departing from McChord were seen engaging the vessels, but witnesses say most were destroyed within minutes of deployment.

But hope was not all lost. Just in time, the Aegis Society showed up with their local members to help fight off the attacking alien vessels. Eochaid the Scatheborne, rumored to be a nearly two-hundred year old Irish sorcerer, and Spectra, a metahuman who can project illusions and psychically manipulate sound waves.

The trapped members of the National Guard were soon freed by Spectra, who witnesses say used her abilities to disrupt the barrier preventing their entry into the city.

By 5:00 a.m. more Aegis Society members had arrived to help defend the city. Large portions of downtown were engulfed in flames. The Space Needle — Seattle's iconic landmark — lay in molten shards after a battle between a horde of drones and one of the Aegis Societies members, Sunspike.

"It didn't fall. Not really," said an eyewitness, Khan Min-Jeong, who was being treated for burns at the Navy's hospital ship when she spoke to our team. "It melted. Sunspike was flying through the downtown area fighting the drones. The- The drones- The drones, they cornered him at the base of the Space Needle and started just… swarming him. Sunspike turned into this white-hot fire and-. The base turned into a pool of lava,"

At 6:14 a.m. Governor Andrews issued a brief statement acknowledging "unidentified hostile forces" over Seattle and urged all residents within a 50-mile radius to shelter or evacuate if possible. A State of Emergency was declared and is still in effect.

Hours later, just after noon, in a three-pronged attack with the electrifying Voltergeist and Maelstrom's fury, Eochaid the Scatheborne delivered a lethal blow to the final Mothership remaining.

An eyewitness, Bob Geller, only had this to say when we asked him his thoughts on the final blow. "We don't get thunder and lightning very often in the Pacific Northwest. But it's always a show when it happens,"

Currently, medics have set up triage stations along Seahawks Stadium, and the Navy dispatched their hospital ship, Sanctuary to help treat the wounded.

"I've never seen wounds like these ones," said Kerry Stone, an EMT who was also being treated for burns onboard the Sanctuary. "They've got lasers- one of them took a guy's arm off with one hit."

As of writing this, casualty figures remain unknown. The city's skyline glows red from fires that are only now being put under control, and rescuers are still digging survivors out from underneath the rubble of fallen buildings.

"Today our great nation has seen evil. That evil was fought with courage and valor from the greatest and most courageous hearts our nation has to offer; first responders, neighbors, and costumed heroes in the sky," said President-Elect Hedge during a press conference held from the Rose Garden. "We do not know the names of the perpetrators of this vicious and unprovoked attack. We do not yet know where these terrorists came from, or why they chose to attack. Make no mistake; I am working alongside the president who I will be taking over for in less than twenty days, and I will ensure that the full resources of our intelligence and space agencies are working to bring the alien terrorists to justice. May God Bless America."

Experts in extraterrestrial technology have been rushed to Seattle, while UN officials convene an emergency session in Washington D.C.
