[Magnet Rise] freed it from gravity, turning it into a low-skimming orange bolt of lightning, hurtling at eye-watering speed toward the mountain-like Giant Tentacruel.
This was also why Lt. Surge evolved his Pikachu early.
His tactics specialized in Raichu with [Magnet Rise].
Better electromagnetic propulsion than limb-running.
It allowed literal right-angle turns.

Unlike true Totem Pokémon, it couldn't fight proficiently.
Dozens of siege-ram tentacles thrashed wildly, churning sea and air.
Two thickest whipped left and right like landslides, aiming to crush the incoming Raichu.
Another sucker-studded, venom-barbed tentacle struck like a poison dragon, whistling toward Lt. Surge hovering amid Voltorb.
"Hmph!" Lt. Surge snorted fearlessly.
Magnezone instantly obeyed his will.
It side-drifted exquisitely, barely grazing the gale-wrapped tentacle.
Slippery venom even brushed his pant leg—he ignored it.
Lt. Surge's focus was solely on Raichu.
"Now!"
"Drop low!"
"Quick Attack into Iron Tail!"
Via brainwave-shared vision, Lt. Surge saw far more than Raichu.
Raichu trusted his intel.
Their synergy was bone-deep.
Just as tentacles neared clapping shut, Raichu's field shifted, plummeting through the death-gap by millimeters.
Speed spiked!

It became true light, closing on the colossal head.
Tail arced high, steel-sheathed like a warhammer [Iron Tail], slamming with full momentum and kinetic force into a crimson-flaming eye.
A dull, teeth-grinding thud.
The Giant Tentacruel reared back roaring fiercer, struck eye cracked and spasming—unshattered, but hurt.
Raichu struck true, retreated without greed; field-reversed, dodging encircling tentacles, priming next assault.
Lt. Surge grinned wildly atop maneuvering Magnezone.
"That's it! Just like that! Wear it down!"
His voice echoed in the charging electromagnetic field.
The Voltorb blazed fiercer, like mini-suns fueling this unequal titan clash with human Trainer tactics and might.
This was—wireless mid-air charging!
Less efficient than contact.
But uninterruptible.
Drag it out, and Lt. Surge would win.
He hadn't even gone full throttle yet.
