Chapter 129 - Fate/Ascend [129]

Everything had come to an end.

With Zeus dead and Rovi vanished, Greece now entered an era unlike anything before.

"Those eyes just now… Hmph. So there's something like that lurking outside my domain?" Deep in the Underworld, Gilgamesh sat upon his throne, eyes narrowed in contemplation.

Uruk's Underworld was now entirely empty; its souls had all returned to reality, and the civilization of Uruk itself had quietly assumed a Greek facade, reshaped in secret beneath history's gaze.

The King had delivered his judgment.

The garden he bore on his shoulders continued to turn.

Yet though Gilgamesh had bid farewell to his friend, he knew his duty was far from finished.

Not only would he await Rovi's return—

He would also guard against Chaos's very existence.

He hated to admit it, but that molten gaze held a terror so immense even he could not imagine resisting it. And that, to Gilgamesh, was utterly intolerable.

I…must become stronger.

That mongrel has already pulled ahead of me again.

"Siduri." Gilgamesh opened his crimson eyes. "What are your plans now?"

"I am the King's loyal attendant," said the veiled woman quietly, stepping gracefully from the palace gate. "Outside my King's presence, the world holds no place for me."

"Is that so? Suit yourself!" Gilgamesh waved dismissively, feigning indifference, though a slight grin tugged at his lips. "Then this King generously grants you permission to remain by my side, bathed in the splendor of my greatness!"

"Issue my command: Seal the Underworld."

"I…shall enter seclusion to cultivate."

Hearing the word "cultivate," Siduri froze for a moment, then smiled behind her veil.

Gilgamesh willingly admitting weakness and seeking strength—such a thing would have been unimaginable in the past.

But now, it had happened.

The word "cultivate," after all, had been Rovi's legacy.

...

At the same moment...

On the ocean's surface, Enkidu smoothed her pure-white dress, withdrawing her gaze from the sky to smile at the slender, indistinct figure at her side.

"Will you come with me?"

"Where?"

"To a quiet place, where we can await his return."

"And where would that be?"

"We'll go…to the Reverse Side."

"The Reverse Side, huh… I suppose we could still watch over this world from there…"

Their voices drifted off into silence.

On the moon, Artemis gently embraced Atalanta, who had risen from Rovi City, softly whispering, "It's alright, Ata. I'll wait alongside you."

...

Within Athens, the Gorgon Sisters watched carefully as the Goddess of Wisdom and War slowly opened her eyes, exhaling softly.

"From today onward…"

"I am Greece's only remaining God-King," Athena announced clearly.

"Ehhhh?!" The sisters exchanged surprised glances, excitement quickly joining their astonishment.

With Athena's rise as the sole ruler of Olympus, their own positions would naturally improve as well.

Yet Medusa couldn't help but think of two distant figures.

I wonder…will we ever see those two again?

...

The ancient Greek myths ended with Zeus, the third God-King. Some legends claimed Zeus had transcended fate, becoming an Omnipotent God; others insisted Zeus had indeed fallen.

After his fall, Athena ascended as the new God-King.

She had found love, and with the help of the Sage who'd journeyed from Uruk, she overcame Zeus, becoming Greece's new ruler.

Her reign became known as the "Rovi Era," meaning "the Era of Brilliant Wisdom," a flourishing age of science, philosophy, and culture praised and admired by the likes of Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle.

...

Eight centuries later.

Rovi City, once illuminated by wisdom, now lay in ruins, worn down by the relentless march of time.

Its people had long since dispersed across Europa.

But on this day, a young man arrived amid wind and dust, stepping carefully through the wreckage. Beneath the golden sunset, he unearthed a single pen from the dusty ruins.

"Father…you were right after all…"

"Yes, my son Romulus." A solemn voice resonated gently in his ears, steeped in justice and compassion. "This pen was left behind by the sage himself, engraved with wisdom that once separated gods. Forge a spear from this pen, and with it, you'll carve out boundaries, founding a prosperous nation for you and your brother."

"I shall obey your will, my great father, Mars, God of War."

Romulus was filled with pride and joy.

The god speaking to him simply smiled. Standing above, his true body turned, meeting a pair of lively eyes behind him.

"Hermes… No, perhaps now I should call you the God of Alchemy."

"Ahaha, long time no see, Ares," the playful young man with indigo hair replied casually.

"Ares? I discarded that name long ago," Mars chuckled. "I thought you'd left along with the other gods."

"Left? No, no, no," Hermes waved dismissively. "We're all sticking around, waiting eagerly to see your new kingdom—so we can loot it thoroughly!"

"Well, everyone but Lady Athena. She's established her own divine realm inside the Inner Sea of the Planet, perfectly content to remain apart from this world."

"Oh, right. There's also a new Sky God—born from Zeus's remains. He lost his machine body, though. Same thing happened to Aphrodite…"

Mars paused briefly, quickly understanding that the Greek gods would assist him in founding his nation.

His smile widened further.

"Then I promise you: each of you gods shall have a rightful place, including the Goddess of Wisdom and War. I'll make sure to leave her a suitable seat."

An inherited lineage—each with their own destined place.

Mars raised his gaze, looking toward the distant horizon.

The man called Romulus, carrying the pen, had already begun his return journey, heart brimming with hope.

The God of War clapped Hermes's shoulder. "Come on, brat. Let's go."

Hermes winced exaggeratedly, though he laughed easily. Despite having grown nearly equal in status to Mars, Hermes still regarded him as something of a senior—after all, Mars had awakened far earlier.

Before departing, Mars glanced once more at the city beneath his feet.

Ancient walls, still bathed in the fading glow of a once-glorious civilization, stretched broken yet dignified beneath the sunset.

A thousand years had passed.

I wonder where you've gone now, Rovi…and how you're doing these days…

Of course, if Rovi knew Mars's thoughts at that moment, he'd bitterly reply that he was in deep, deep trouble.

...

Deep in the Sea of Imaginary Numbers.

A vast pair of gentle hands carefully held Rovi's tiny, human-shaped form, enormous eyes brimming with worry.

[Aaaaa—! How did you…end up like this?]
