Chapter 31 - You Don’t Even Realize What You Threw Away!

Because of the heavy rain pouring down from the sky,

the three rushed into the Pokémon Center to take shelter.

Since it was already late, they planned to stay the night.

The global audience still didn't understand what the footage was building toward—

But after Pikachu's "Raging-Thunder Spearow Massacre" in the last Tally,

everyone had learned patience.

Surely, the good part was coming.

And then… they saw human evil.

Inside the Pokémon Center, Ash and the others were enjoying hot soup…

An arrogant voice echoed through the entire lobby.

It was a boy named Damian.

He was bragging loudly to his friends about the Pokémon he caught.

Those Pokémon were nothing but trophies to him—

tools to show off.

When his lackeys asked if he had a Charmander,

He scoffed:

"Of course, I had a Charmander!

But that thing was way too weak—

It couldn't even beat a Poliwag!"

"So I just threw it away.

My dad will get me a stronger one anyway!"

"Useless trash like that?

There are tons of them in the world!

Anyone who wants it can take it!"

The moment he said this—

The entire world roared in fury.

"What a piece of garbage."

"This guy is disgusting! How can a person like this exist?!"

"This is the opposite of Ash! A walking cautionary tale!"

"He blames Charmander for his own lack of training?! Seriously?!"

"A Fire-type losing to a Water-type—gee, I wonder why!

Who the hell fights with type disadvantage if they can avoid it?!"

(Ash: "???")

Meanwhile, the general audience ranted—

But the Elite Four and Champions

were already taking action.

[Gardenia: Thoroughly investigate this 'Damian' kid. And his entire family! What filth! Spit!]

[Leon: I second that. Find out everything. This kind of person… doesn't deserve to be a Trainer.]

[Flint: Unforgivable!

A disgrace to the League and to Fire Pokémon!]

Fire-type Gym Leader, Fire-type Elite Four, and Charizard fanboy—

all enraged.

Someone had abandoned a starter.

A Fire starter.

Unforgivable.

[Lance: Already investigating!

Don't worry, this kid and his family won't last the night.]

[Professor Oak: I've mobilized my connections as well.

Someone like him doesn't deserve to own Pokémon!]

As all the big names showed up in the chat, determined to take action—

Somewhere in Kanto, Damian began trembling uncontrollably.

This cursed Heavenly Tally!

Why did it have to expose him?!

Ash! Charmander!

All of them were the reason Champions were targeting him!

"Stupid Charmander… Even if they catch me—it won't change the fact you're useless trash!"

Damian growled through clenched teeth.

He still… had no remorse.

In Team Rocket HQ, Giovanni stroked his Persian calmly.

He actually agreed with the idea of discarding weak Pokémon.

But that only applied to other people.

His Pokémon would never be weak.

His Beedrill, for example, was his ace—undefeated under him.

Therefore, Damian was simply a worthless human.

Elsewhere, Cyrus—now just a wealthy man in Sinnoh—watched the footage in silence.

This only intensified his desire to create a new world.

And in Kalos, Lysandre felt similarly.

Humanity disappointed him.

He wanted a paradise for Pokémon.

For that… humans were unnecessary.

Back in the video, Ash and the others were furious.

Outside, a storm raged—

and Charmander was still waiting faithfully on that lone rock…

for the Trainer who abandoned him.

Yet Damian sat here bragging.

"Unforgivable!!"

Ash grabbed Damian by the collar.

"You bastard! Do you know Charmander is still out there waiting for you?!"

"Who the hell are you?! Let go of me!"

Damian struggled—

But Ash's grip was far too strong.

"Listen! You're going back right now to get Charmander!!"

"Why should I listen to you?!

It's just a trash Pokémon!

You expect me to go out in the rain for THAT?!

You're insane!"

"Let go! Or I'll use my Pokémon!"

Seeing Damian was hopeless—

and thinking of Charmander still suffering out in the storm—

Ash flung Damian aside, grabbed a raincoat, and sprinted out the door!

"Ash! Wait for me!"

"Honestly, always so reckless…"

Brock shouted while chasing after him,

and even Misty—despite grumbling—threw on a raincoat and followed.

The three ran through the downpour back to the cliffside—

Charmander was still there,

using a large leaf to shield itself…

But it did nothing.

Wind and rain hammered its tiny body,

and the flame on its tail—the flame symbolizing its life—

was flickering like a candle ready to die.

"Charmander! Hold on—we'll get you to the Pokémon Center!"

Thanks to their desperate effort,

Charmander was saved—barely.

The world watching let out a collective breath.

Thank goodness.

Ash intervened.

Charmander survived.

Ash truly was Ash—

willing to risk anything for a Pokémon,

even one that wasn't his.

Later, Charmander naturally became Ash's Pokémon—

and immediately blasted Damian with a Flamethrower when he tried to backtrack.

That guy had absolutely no idea

what kind of legend he threw away.

"Roa…"

Charizard gave a low rumble.

On screen, he saw the trainer who once saved his life.

After evolving, Charizard felt strong—

felt he no longer needed a Trainer.

He began looking down on Ash.

But now, watching this…

He realized:

How was he any different from the Trainer who abandoned him?

Why…

Why had he become like that?
