By the time I woke up, I was falling in a way that resembled a slow descent. I was trying to hold onto every piece of information I had gotten from my brief, incredibly one-sided conversation with the being as I kept falling into darkness, with no increase in my descent or any recognition of my surroundings. It was all dark, so dark I couldn't even make out my very own features. As time went by, I kept thinking over the words the being had left me with, my name and a way to know more about myself, but at a risky cost.
So, despite the warning I had previously gotten, I tried that again. This time, I knew what I was looking for; I searched for anything I knew about the being. All I could recall were his vague features. I needed the memories I had lost, not the memories I had just made. I tried again, but I changed my approach; I needed just one thing about the being, I didn't need to know everything about him.
I struggled as I could feel blood coming out of all my pores. I wanted to scream in pain, but to no avail. I struggled with my last remaining strength to recall anything, but nothing came from it. I gave up, and I wallowed in self-pity that I couldn't even endure this amount of pain to get just a little information.
I passed out again before I could swear more at myself. I had a dream, which was strange because I didn't know that I could have dreams. I saw a man, or what I assumed was a man; he looked quite strange with a well-built body and large white wings sprouting from his back. He was what I assumed could be considered handsome, with white curly hair and dimple marks indenting his face. He wore a long, white, flowing cloth with a leather belt worn on his waist. A torch and horn hung from his belt as if they resembled everything this being stood for.
"Greetings.", he said.
His face bore a sleepy but cheeky expression, almost peaceful, and he regarded me although his eyes were closed. Above them, he wore a sleeping mask with what resembled open eyes.
"Greetings.", I repeated, assuming that was the correct reply.
"Your voice…" he paused before continuing. His expression changed at the same instant when I replied to his greeting. I thought to myself, have I used the wrong greeting?
"Sorry for that." He said, noticing my worried expression.
"Your voice reminded me of someone I knew quite a long time ago."
It was as he walked towards me that I noticed we were standing in a colourful landscape, very different from what I had been accustomed to previously. He looked at me with a somewhat assumed expression. He lifted his forefinger and middle finger and gently tapped directly on the middle of my forehead. I flinched.
At first, I feared that I would feel the same excruciating pain I had felt before when trying to pry information out of my brain forcefully, but he looked at me with a somewhat calm smile and still advanced with it. As soon as he made contact. I could feel information about different things which I had been unaware of all come together to make sense in my brain. We are in a field, and he is wearing a chiton, a Greek clothing.
I stumbled on the grass as more and more information kept entering my brain. I recalled the conversation I had with the being. I knew words I did not know the meaning of were simply just processed in my brain when I was thinking. I looked at the man who gave me enlightenment for answers to my various questions. Something already told me he knew my thoughts without having to express them. He looked at me, waiting for me to express my thoughts.
"Who is…?"
"Two, only two questions I am allowed to answer." he interrupted me.
"How did I know his features, when I am just learning about the majority of this world?" I asked.
"That was what he allowed you to register, those of his features that he allowed you to understand, even if you did not know what those words meant at that time, you knew how and when to use them.", he said in a rather sleepy tone.
I nodded.
"I'll give you a bit of bonus information before your second question." he continued.
"Continue to recall your conversation with him, everything he told you, what you observed about him and what you felt at that moment", he concluded.
I nodded again.
"Your second and final question?" he asked.
I paused a bit before I chose my second one; it was highly unlikely he would answer me if I asked who the being was. So I sought to ask a question which would benefit me in the near future. I needed more information, and this man was my only hope.
"Would I ever see you again?" I asked.
"Yes.", he replied simply.
I wanted to ask when I would see him again, but he held two of his fingers in front of me.
"Two questions, only two, no more than that." he said firmly.
I gave up on trying to pry more information about anything more than I was allowed to know. I looked at the man for anything he might want to tell me out of generosity, but he was silent. We stayed in the plains, not saying anything to one another. I began to feel sleepy, but I fought it, waiting for the man to give me any clue about who I was.
The second I closed my eyes, I was falling into the dark abyss once again. With nothing other than my thoughts, I was about to doze off when I saw a light towards my right. Something was pulling me downwards, but I ignored it, pushing myself to reach that light. I was about to grab it when what felt like a hand grabbed me by my ankle and pulled me back towards my initial destination. I shouted in protest, but the hand would not let go. As I began to pry the hand away from my leg, something fast hit me square on my face. I couldn't register what had hit me before I passed out. Again.
