"So you're Konoha's Copy Ninja, Sharingan Kakashi. No wonder the Demon Brothers' squad got wiped out."
Zabuza's voice was low and rough, his eyes brimming with undisguised malice—like a wolf finally spotting prey.
"Huh? What's a 'Copy Ninja'? And what's a 'Sharingan'?" Naruto suddenly asked in an exaggerated, completely mistimed tone.
Sakura's eyebrow twitched. Dude, your sense of play is way too strong right now…
She sighed inwardly and played along. "The Sharingan is the Uchiha clan's kekkei genkai. But what does that have to do with Kakashi-sensei? Ah—don't tell me…!"
She glanced at Sasuke. Sasuke was also staring at Kakashi, stunned.
Kakashi stayed calm and unshowy, not a trace of pride on his face—pure veteran aura. With one hand, he lifted his forehead protector slowly, revealing the scarred Sharingan beneath. It took center stage.
"So that's the Sharingan that's copied over a thousand jutsu," Zabuza said flatly.
"Thank god, it's the Sharingan—we're saved!" Naruto boomed theatrically. "Sasuke, isn't that supposed to be exclusive to the Uchiha? Did you lend your eye to the boss or something?"
Sasuke instantly exploded, shooting Naruto a murderous glare.
Naruto thought, Huh? I even tried to provoke some intense negative emotions. Isn't that supposed to awaken the Sharingan?
Guess the negativity wasn't intense enough.
Zabuza was getting irritated by Naruto's noise. He flicked his eyes toward him. Naruto immediately regrouped with Sakura and Sasuke, forming a manji-style guard around Tazuna.
Naruto blinked. "Big bro, your eyes aren't as pretty as our boss's."
"Enough," Kakashi said stiffly, cutting him off. "From now on, protect Mr. Tazuna. This one's mine."
"You're not his match."
"Roger," Naruto said aloud, but his mind was already sinking into his inner world again.
He raced to the gate in his mental space. "Nine-Tails, I'm the landlord. Hand over the chakra."
"Trouble again?" Kurama sounded annoyed. Who complains about his chakra one second and comes begging for it the next? Could you show a tailed beast a little respect?!
"Hurry up. You do this job right and we'll call it even about earlier," Naruto said utterly shamelessly, already acting like Kurama's boss.
Kurama didn't answer immediately. He looked through Naruto's senses at the outside world.
Zabuza had already drawn his blade and flash-stepped onto the water, raising one arm high as he pushed the Hidden Mist Jutsu to its limit.
Visibility dropped even further.
Sasuke was completely smothered by Zabuza's pressure. Sweat poured down his back; his legs trembled.
Kakashi noticed and was about to reassure him—
—but Naruto slapped a hand on Sasuke's shoulder.
"What, you good or what, skinny pup?"
A heat like magma shot up Sasuke's spine straight into his skull.
I swear to god, thanks a lot, man.
Naruto felt a little disappointed. Still no Sharingan awakening?
"Oh? Still got time to squabble?" Zabuza's voice came from nowhere.
He was suddenly between the three of them. Kakashi's scalp went cold and he shouted for everyone to scatter—
But Sakura did the opposite. She charged straight at Zabuza, arms wide as if to hug him.
Zabuza clicked his tongue in contempt, then swung his great sword in a wide horizontal arc at her.
Sakura ducked at the last instant, narrowly dodging a fatal cut. She latched onto Zabuza and used her body weight to pin him down.
She was trying to immobilize him with sheer physical force.
Expression blank, Sakura said, "Move."
Naruto's real body nearly shouted holy—! This girl doesn't do anything by halves. When she goes wild, she goes feral.
But he, Kakashi, and Sasuke all reacted at once—drawing kunai and rushing in.
Kakashi was fastest. Even while shocked, he used Body Flicker and stabbed in hard.
Zabuza narrowed his eyes and smashed an elbow into Sakura's forehead. She didn't budge.
Right then, Naruto whipped out an extra-long kunai he'd bought, and swept it across—Sakura still clinging to Zabuza.
Splash! Both Sakura and Zabuza turned into pools of water.
Water Release: Water Clone Jutsu.
Sakura had planted this trap earlier. After they disembarked, she'd found a chance to cast it. Her real self—just like Naruto's shadow clones—was hiding in the back.
It was one of her recent training breakthroughs. Inspired by the original Naruto story, she'd chosen a similar path to Naruto first—learn a highly practical Water Clone to raise her fault tolerance in combat.
Now Sakura's real body picked up Naruto's ninja tool bag and began laying traps around the battlefield.
She was hunting for Haku. Best case: capture him alive. If not—kill.
Naruto's clone helped her set up, amazed. So this is the big-picture awareness of a hardcore Soulsborne player…
On the front line, Zabuza recovered from the disruption and didn't pause for a breath—summoning another water clone to bait Kakashi.
Kakashi slipped behind the clone, but then the real Zabuza also swept behind him, making Kakashi's heart tighten.
Then—
Naruto shoved his long kunai against Zabuza's backside.
"Don't move. With my height, if I stab downward, your ass is done."
For the record, Naruto was still underdeveloped at this stage—barely tall enough to reach Zabuza's waist.
So yes. He was aiming at Zabuza's butt.
"Naruto! I told you to stay back—you're not his opponent!" Kakashi barked. To him, Naruto's temperament made this kind of stunt way beyond what he should be attempting.
"Heh heh. Boss, a ninja who steals the butt and runs is a real ninja!" Naruto nodded, then thrust forward.
Zabuza's body melted into water. The real one appeared from the mist behind Naruto, blade cleaving down toward them with a freezing gust.
"Fire Release: Great Fireball Jutsu!"
Zabuza felt the temperature spike behind him. In that split second of distraction, Kakashi Body-Flickered Naruto away, making the sword miss, then sidestepped the fireball.
The heat scattered chakra in the air; the mist began to destabilize.
Farther off, Sasuke still had to guard Tazuna, but he could provide long-range support with Fire Release.
"Boss, don't run toward the water!" Kakashi warned.
Naruto's eyes flashed. He jumped out of Kakashi's grip and re-formed the manji guard with Sasuke around Tazuna.
Kakashi stared. "Don't go to the water?"
"The water is his home field," Naruto said cheerfully. "If he locks you down there, his water clone can just go kill Tazuna."
Kakashi's breath hitched.
So they'd been stalling Zabuza earlier—preventing him from forcing Kakashi onto the river?
In the original story, Zabuza shattered their formation and kicked Kakashi onto the water, where the clone immediately trapped him with Water Prison. Once Kakashi was controlled, Tazuna was basically free loot.
But now the three kids had counter-harassed him like total gremlins. After all that chaos, the fight had reset.
"Hey, big bro!" Naruto waved at Zabuza. "You're an assassin type. Group work must be rough for you!"
Blue veins bulged on Zabuza's hand. A huge vein-pop symbol might as well have appeared on his forehead.
"BRAT!!"
Sasuke looked at Naruto in disbelief. He's still provoking him?
But… Naruto had been calm the whole time. In this kind of lethal combat, he showed no panic at all.
So… presence and composure were the key?
Sasuke felt like he'd learned something. I'll fight Itachi like this one day.
"You've got time to watch others?" Kakashi seized another opening and rushed Zabuza. The two locked up in close combat.
"Earth Release: Headhunter Jutsu."
"What—?!"
Boom! A hand erupted from beneath Zabuza. He sprang back instantly, abandoning his sword, and began weaving signs at high speed.
Ox—Monkey—Rabbit—Rat—Boar—Rooster…
"Water Release: Water Dragon Jutsu!"
"Water Release: Water Dragon Jutsu!"
Kakashi copied him perfectly, canceling the attack. Zabuza's assassin advantage was shrinking by the second.
He began to waver.
What now?
No, stay calm! He can only copy—he doesn't even have his own jutsu!
Then the jeering started again.
"Wow, big bro, that's it? Go home already."
"You'd be better off as a pile of dog crap."
Zabuza's silence was deafening…
He snapped. If he couldn't kill Tazuna today, he'd still kill this brat.
He tried to change angles, stomping toward the river again—
—but Kakashi was already in his way.
He caught Naruto's eyes. The brat was actually looking at him with pity.
Zabuza bolted toward the river once more, hands flashing through a new set of signs. He was preparing a jutsu that could devastate the area—Water Release: Great Waterfall.
Kakashi also began weaving signs—faster than Zabuza.
Naruto watched, thinking, Okay, we're back on the rails. The real question is what to do about Haku afterward. Just take him out?
But if we clear this "dungeon" too fast, do we skip the tree-climbing arc? That EXP pack is mandatory.
Sakura seemed to read his mind. She whispered, "Finish Haku. Then focus on Gato."
Naruto got it instantly. The plotline had shifted; Haku and Zabuza might not be the biggest threats now.
They could wrap both of them up together—then turn on Gato.
With that decided, Naruto dipped into his inner world again to "visit Kurama."
On the front—
"Water Release: Great Waterfall Jutsu!"
Kakashi fired first, a roaring tidal surge smashing straight into Zabuza. Zabuza howled "Impossible!" as the whirlpool battered him senseless.
Thunk. Thunk. Thunk. Several kunai pinned the half-dazed Zabuza to a tree. Kakashi stepped in to finish him—
—and at that moment, Haku arrived right on cue.
Whip! Whip! Senbon needles slammed into Zabuza's neck. He collapsed, motionless.
Kakashi froze. He looked toward the masked teen: dark-green outfit, silver patterns glinting, cool and ethereal… a stark contrast to the killing needles in his hand.
"Thank you," Haku said politely, voice distant. "You gave me the chance to kill Zabuza."
"A Mist hunter-nin," Kakashi said, briefly explaining who they were and what they did.
"I see." Naruto nodded gravely, then held out a hand. "Alright. Please show your hunter-nin ID."
Kakashi: "?"
Sasuke: "?"
Tazuna: "?"
Sakura: "..."
Naruto looked around. "What? Did I say something wrong? He wears a mask and he's hunter-nin? Then if I wear a Leaf headband, am I the Fifth Hokage?"
Everyone blinked…and then had to admit he had a point.
Sakura also stepped in. "Agreed. We had a scam in the village before—someone impersonated an elite jōnin and tricked people out of money. The victims got fooled because they didn't verify identity."
Total fabrication, but plausible enough.
"Anti-fraud is everyone's duty," Naruto affirmed. "Also, our files are in the village. If you don't believe us, come back to Konoha with us and verify."
Sakura was dying inside. We're just acting—do you have to be this rigorous?!
Haku fell silent. He really couldn't produce any proof.
Not like real hunter-nin carried wallets with IDs anyway.
Then Naruto suddenly went blank for a heartbeat.
Haku caught the lapse. He considered grabbing Zabuza and retreating.
Main issue: Zabuza-san was big and hard to move. And what if he damaged Zabuza-san's beautiful body?!
Haku hesitated—
—and Naruto snapped back, calm and cold.
"Where were we… whatever. I don't care."
His eyes were blood-red now, slit pupils like a beast.
He looked at Sakura. "Let's fight. My cheat just came online."
