Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

The moon hung low in the sky, casting an eerie glow over the dark, empty street. Shadows danced along the pavement, and the air was thick with tension. Kayla stood in the middle of the road, her heart racing as she felt the transformation take hold. With a surge of energy, her body shifted, fur sprouting from her skin, her limbs reshaping into the form of a tanish-red wolf. The world around her sharpened, scents flooding her senses, and she could feel the raw power coursing through her.

As she adjusted to her new form, Kayla's gaze fell upon her opponent—a massive black wolf, its eyes glinting like shards of obsidian. The two wolves circled each other, the tension palpable. Kayla's heart pounded in her chest, not just from the adrenaline of the transformation but from the fear of what was to come. She had never fought before; she wasn't even sure how to defend herself.

The black wolf growled, a deep, rumbling sound that sent shivers down her spine. It lunged forward, muscles rippling beneath its sleek coat. In a split second, instinct took over, and Kayla leapt to the side, narrowly avoiding the attack. The ground shook as the black wolf hit the pavement where she had just stood, but it was quick to recover. In a swift motion, it turned and snapped its jaws, catching the tip of her tail.

Kayla yelped in surprise as the black wolf yanked her backward, sending her crashing against the cold, hard surface of a nearby building. Pain radiated through her body, but she fought to regain her footing. Shaking her head to clear the daze, she rose slowly, determination flickering in her eyes despite the throbbing ache in her side.

But the black wolf was relentless. It charged at her again, a whirlwind of fur and muscle. Kayla braced herself, instinctively trying to summon the strength she felt within. She lunged to the side, but the black wolf was faster, its powerful body colliding with hers. She felt the weight of it pressing her down, and panic surged through her. She struggled beneath its bulk, trying to push it away, but it was no use. The black wolf was larger, stronger, and far more experienced.

Kayla's mind raced as she tried to remember any advice she had heard about fighting. But all she could think about was survival. The black wolf growled, baring its teeth, and Kayla knew she had to act quickly. With a surge of adrenaline, she twisted her body and managed to slip out from underneath the black wolf's grasp, scrambling to her feet.

She took a moment to assess her surroundings, the street stretching out before her, empty and desolate. There was no one to help her, no one to call for aid. It was just her and the black wolf. As she steadied herself, she felt a flicker of hope. Maybe she could outsmart it. Maybe if she used her speed and agility, she could find a way to escape.

But the black wolf was already on the move again. It charged at her with a ferocity that made her heart race. Kayla dodged to the side, feeling the rush of air as the black wolf barely missed her. She could hear the growl of frustration rumbling in its throat, and she knew she had to keep moving.

Kayla darted down the street, her paws pounding against the pavement. She could hear the heavy footsteps of the black wolf behind her, the sound growing closer with each passing moment. She glanced back, her heart sinking as she saw the black wolf gaining ground. It was faster, more powerful, and she was running out of options.

As she rounded a corner, Kayla spotted an alleyway. Without thinking, she veered into it, hoping to lose her pursuer in the maze of shadows. She pressed herself against the cool brick wall, trying to catch her breath. The alley was narrow, and she could hear the black wolf's breathing, heavy and labored, as it followed her scent.

But Kayla was not ready to give up. She needed to find a way to escape. Gathering her strength, she prepared herself for the next move. The black wolf paused at the entrance of the alley, its eyes scanning the darkness, searching for her. Kayla's heart raced as she waited, knowing that the moment it stepped inside, she would have to act.

With a sudden burst of courage, Kayla sprang from her hiding place, darting past the black wolf with a speed she didn't know she possessed. The black wolf lunged, but she was too quick, weaving through the narrow space and out into the street once more.

Freedom was just ahead, but she could feel the black wolf's presence closing in. She pushed herself harder, her muscles burning, her breath coming in ragged gasps. She could hear the growl behind her, the sound sound Echoing in her very ears.

Than suddenly...

BANG

A car hit Kayla and she went flying, as the car came to a hault. The black wolf stopped in its tracks hiding in the shadows as it watched Kayla remain still. A woman got out of the car and ran to Kayla. "Oh my God oh my God what have I done!" The woman cried. The black wolf slowly backed up disappearing into the shadow.

A cry came from Kayla as she opened her eyes. The woman gasped. "No..." She said. "You can't be..." She added. Kayla cried again as she now recognized who had hit her...

"Kayla" the girl said quietly and Kayla let out another whine. The girl looked around, before picking up Kayla's injured body, and putting her in her car. "Don't worry I know someone who can help you" her friend told her before closing the rear door and getting into the drivers seat.

Kayla tried to get up but the pain filled her body keeping her from moving. Could she really trust her friend now that she was recognized? Did it even matter at this point? Even if it did, there was nothing Kayla could do when she was injured and bleeding in the back of her best friends car.
