Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: Ganyu's Evaluation

Night fell.

Yujing Terrace.

A blue-haired young woman sat before the window. She stretched her back lazily and moved the stack of processed work documents aside.

"Mm, finally done."

Murmuring to herself, she took a plainly bound book from the shelf; it was Fang Qiu's Your Lie in April.

"Miss Fang Qiu's book... although the ending is very sad, it possesses a magic that makes one want to read it over and over again. I wonder when she will publish her next work? Though, for a novelist, finding inspiration probably isn't such a simple matter."

Ganyu smiled faintly.

She had deliberately sped up her work today to clear her schedule, just for this corner of leisure time to read Fang Qiu's novel in peace.

Turning a page, she was quickly immersed in the world of the novel.

It was as if she were in Inazuma, witnessing with her own eyes the green and beautiful romance between a young boy and girl.

Having lived for so many years, this was the first time she felt curious about romantic love.

What exactly did it feel like?

Just as she was entranced by her reading, a voice rang out.

"Senior Ganyu."

"Huh?"

Ganyu paused, put down the book, and looked up to see a purple-haired young woman standing in front of her desk, looking at her with a helpless expression.

"Lady Keqing, I apologize. I was so absorbed just now that I didn't notice you."

Ganyu hurriedly put the novel away and asked, feeling slightly apologetic.

"It is I who should apologize for interrupting your rest."

Keqing shook her head and spoke.

She knew well everything Ganyu did for Liyue Harbor. Not to mention it was long after working hours; even if she took a break during work hours, it would be excusable.

"May I ask what brings you here, Lady Keqing?"

Ganyu asked.

"I came to the secretariat to look for someone's file, but since the other secretaries aren't here, I can only come to you."

Keqing said, "It's a white-haired woman named Fang Qiu. She is also a Vision holder. I want to find information about her."

As the hub of intelligence affairs for all of Liyue, the Yujing Terrace Secretariat received a massive influx of intelligence every day.

And Ganyu was the coordinator of it all.

After she organized it, she would submit it to the Liyue Qixing.

Once they made their decisions, the orders would be passed down by the secretaries of Yujing Terrace.

Naturally, the census of Liyue's population was included in this.

In particular, almost all Vision holders had file records.

She didn't intend to investigate Fang Qiu's background; she simply wanted to know what work Fang Qiu was currently doing.

If Fang Qiu was unsatisfied with her current job, or if Keqing deemed it unsuitable for her, she would find Fang Qiu and introduce her to a job that both suited her and allowed her to contribute to Liyue.

Making good use of talented people.

This was the philosophy of personnel management passed down by Rex Lapis.

"Fang Qiu?"

Hearing this familiar name, Ganyu couldn't help but pause.

"What is it? Do you know her, Senior Ganyu?"

Keqing asked in confusion.

"Yes, I met her once. She is a very good person."

Ganyu nodded and told Keqing everything about her encounter with Fang Qiu.

Of course, she used her discretion to omit the part about their physical contact.

"Are you saying that Fang Qiu is currently an author affiliated with the Liyue Publishing House?"

Keqing exclaimed in surprise.

No wonder Fang Qiu carried an air of gentle fragility; she was a cultural worker.

What surprised her even more was that Ganyu gave Fang Qiu high praise when introducing her.

"Are you interested in Miss Fang Qiu, Lady Keqing? Coincidentally, I have a book written by her right here. Why don't I lend it to you to read?"

Ganyu smiled and handed the copy of Your Lie in April she had just set aside to Keqing.

"Eh? No, no need."

Keqing hurriedly shook her head, refusing.

She didn't have that much interest in reading books, and reading novels for entertainment was an even bigger waste of time.

"As the saying goes, the book reflects the person. If you want to understand Miss Fang Qiu deeply, the best way is to start with the books she writes. After reading this book, my perception of Miss Fang Qiu has changed significantly."

Ganyu smiled and added, "Besides, the book Miss Fang Qiu wrote is excellent."

"Then... alright. But if you lend the book to me, what will you do, Miss Ganyu?"

Keqing hesitated.

At the same time, Keqing couldn't help but feel a bit astonished.

She had thought Ganyu was just being polite, but she hadn't expected her to recommend Fang Qiu's book so strongly.

"It's fine. I went to Wanwen Bookhouse today and bought two more copies. I have three in total, so lending you one is no problem."

Ganyu smiled and said.

"Alright then."

Keqing nodded, took the book Ganyu handed her, and said, "I will finish reading it as soon as possible and return it to you."

"No need, no need. If possible, I hope you can read it carefully, Lady Keqing, and savor it slowly."

Ganyu said with a smile.

"Mm, I will read it carefully."

Keqing nodded.

"By the way, why are you looking for Fang Qiu?"

Ganyu asked.

Seeing Ganyu ask, Keqing told her everything that had happened that afternoon.

"So that's what happened."

Ganyu nodded thoughtfully.

"Then I'll take my leave first. Please rest early today, Senior Ganyu."

After exchanging a few pleasantries with Ganyu, Keqing bid her farewell.

Having said goodbye to Ganyu and returned home, Keqing sat at her desk and gently opened the title page.

"What kind of work is it, exactly, that would make Senior Ganyu recommend it so strongly?"

Keqing cast her gaze down with curiosity.

Your Lie in April.

Author: Fang Qiu.

The story began with a street at dusk.

...

Meanwhile, holding a spare copy of Your Lie in April, Ganyu gently locked the office at Yujing Terrace.

Today's work was done.

I'll go home today.

I might as well take a walk through Liyue Harbor.

Night in Liyue Harbor was very lively, ablaze with lights.

"Did you guys hear? The merchant caravan was attacked by Hilichurls again today. It was terrifying."

"Better not leave the city casually these days; it's really too dangerous."

"They say if it weren't for Xiangling from Wanmin Restaurant, Director Hu from Wangsheng Funeral Parlor, and a mysterious white-haired woman named Fang Qiu stepping in, it would have been disastrous this time. Everyone there probably would have died."

"Fang Qiu? Come to think of it, the author of that novel I bought yesterday seems to be named Fang Qiu too."

"I'm a devoted fan of Miss Fang Qiu. She really does have white hair, and she's extremely beautiful. She also has a very good relationship with Wangsheng Funeral Parlor and Wanmin Restaurant. I saw them eating together at Wanmin Restaurant just yesterday."

"You say she's a novelist? What's the name of her novel? I'll go buy a copy while Wanwen Bookhouse is still open."

"Such chivalrous spirit is indeed worthy of praise. I go to Wanmin Restaurant all the time, but as for Wangsheng Funeral Parlor... I'll pass. I'll just support this Miss Fang Qiu's book instead."

"I'm gonna buy one too! Even though I can't read, I just happen to need something to prop up my table leg."

The crowd buzzed with discussion.

"Come to think of it, I never expected Miss Fang Qiu to have a chivalrous side. I know a bit more about her now."

Listening to the idle gossip of the crowd, Ganyu smiled faintly and said, "I just wonder when I'll be able to meet Miss Fang Qiu again to have a good chat about the things she writes."

As she chuckled softly, her arrival also attracted the attention of many people present.

"Look, everyone, it's Secretary Ganyu."

"So beautiful. If only I had half of Miss Ganyu's beauty."

"Hey, look at the book in Miss Ganyu's hand. It looks like Fang Qiu's Your Lie in April."

"It seems so. I've heard for a while that Miss Ganyu bought Fang Qiu's book, but I didn't expect her to like it so much that she carries it with her. It must really be well written."

"No, I have to go buy a copy too."

"Me too."

In an instant, many people hurriedly ran towards Wanwen Bookhouse and other bookstores.
