Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: lunar phenomenon

Yan's POV ---

It's evening now...

I shut down the last file on my desk, my stomach growls immediately. Great... I am starving. I pack my bag, pushing my chair back with a tired sign as the quiet office settles around me. Locking the door behind me, I head out, ready to finally go home and feed myself before I collapse. I held the parking lot and moved inside it. I start my car but somehow it takes too much time for starting "it's the first time this happens..." I mutter surprisingly. Finally, it started with a smooth, deep rumble.

Now I am on my way home and suddenly the same, strange, deep feeling hits my chest but i ignore this, the road ahead was dark, washed in shades of blue from the early moonlight. I switched on the radio, more out of habit than need, hoping the noise would keep my thoughts from drifting.

"Tonight's lunar phenomenon is one of the rarest in recorded history... Experts expect an unusual surge of atmosphere changes as the moon---"

I frowned. Atmospheric changes? The moon?

Something about the announcer's tone made my chest tighten. A strange chill crawled up my spine, as if the air inside the car had suddenly grown colder.

Before I could reach for the dial, a violent gust of wind slammed against the car.

The steering wheel twisted in my hands.

What...? That wasn't normal.

Another shove of wind -- harder this time, almost deliberate -- made the whole car shudder. My breath caught. The headlights flickered across the empty road, and for a split second, the sky above seemed unnaturally bright... Like the moon was pulsing.

Stay calm... Steady... Breathe, I told myself, gripping the wheel so hard my fingers hurt.

But the next gust came like a wave.

The tires skidded.

The guardrail rushed into view.

My heart leapt into my throut.

I hit the breaks, but the pedal felt useless -- the wind was dragging the car sideways, like invisible hands were pushing me toward the edge.

"No... No, no--"

Metal screeched.

The railing snapped.

And then the world tilted.

Cold air swallowed me.

Time stretched thin -- painfully slow -- as the car tipped over the edge.

I saw the moon one last time through the shattered windshield.

It was glowing... wrong.

Too bright. Too close. Too alive.

Then the river rose up to meet me, and everything vanished into dark, icy silence...
