Chapter 12 - Chapter 12

Marvis POV

I don't check the news often. It is like usually full of noise, things I already knew before the public did. But today... today I was staring at the screen like something major happened.

University shooting. One unconscious. No death. Suspect unidentified. Campus on Lockdown.

The unconscious victim's name was on the article.

Her. Melody Quinn.

Something in my gut when the receptionist mentioned a "young woman involved in the incident" same university and same time she supposed to return for her answers. I don't believe in fate and I certainly don't believe in coincidences either.

"Find out where she is" I told Nico, one of my trusted men. Calm but firm.

"Hospital records?" He asked pulling his tablet.

"Quietly," I said. "I want her name, room and anyone who goes near her. But no contact. Not yet."

He nodded and disappeared.

I leaned back in my chair, staring at the window, knocked pressed against my mouth.

This changes everything.

The girl had fire, I saw it from the moment she stood in front of me, she also had history. And now...

Her shadow rosed up walking straight to my world. I do not know how or why but Melody Quinn was too close to something I myself do not understand. That's why I was here.

I stepped through the hospital's front hallway, dressed in a black hoodie and a cap, no suits, no attention. I kept my head low and pace casual. Just another man visiting a patient. Nico had done the groundwork. She was in room 203, private wig. Mild concussion, some bruising. No visitors allowed yet. That did not apply to me. I moved through the corridor unnoticed. The guards stationed near the door busy scrolling through Titok. Useless. I walked passed without uttering a word and pushed the door open quietly.

There she was. Under the stiff white sheets, her hair messy against the pillow, a bandage around her head. One arm bruised, IV taped on her hand. She looked smaller somehow. Fragile but not weak.
