Chapter 4 - Face Reality

He was at his wits end until a hand grazed his shoulder, looking down he saw Chloe.

"Calm down, everything is going to be alright if we don't panic." her voice was soothing and filled with a strong presence.

That quailed his a heart a bit for some reason.

"I guess you're right my little pusik, how can I be afraid with a beauty like you with me."

The atmosphere warmed a bit after that.

But then out of the corner of his eye he saw that he received a bar and his face lit up.

He removed Chloe's hand from him, "Finally some service don't worry Chloe am calling for help.", he started dialling 911

He waited until someone picked up

"Yes Officer am being attacked by a terrorist."

"Yes Officer, I don't know how they look like though but am afraid for my life and my girlfriend's."

"Girlfriend." It brought her happiness being called that again by him.

Her mind went high after she heard him refer her as his girlfriend, and then she zoned out.

"Yes Officer, my location is…hello? hello? are you still there!" then he decided to check his screen.

His eyes froze as he looked at what was displayed there.

A humanoid figure, wearing a skull of a wolf over their head with to white lights inhabiting the eye sockets.

"Who the heck is this." just looking at this gave him the chills.

"Hey Chloe, come check this out." but she was still muttering, I'm Yasha's Girlfriend like a mantra.

And before he could snap her out of it, suddenly the roof of the car was ripped away like paper.

It made sharp noises as it was teared, 'Sclick'

and a howl were heard 'AWOO!!!"

A clawed hand shot in a blur, Chloe's hand shot out too.

But speeds were faster than the mundane eye could see, but Chloe's was slower than the other one.

All Yasha saw was two empty white eye sockets before he was taken by what he could only describe as a demon.

"YASHA NOOOOO!!!!!" her fingers slightly grazed his

Chloe gasped, her world spinning as she clawed at the air where he had been.

"COME ON WE WERE JUST ABOUT TO START, YOU FUCKIN PARANORMAL."

She climbed the hood of the car with only a bra and her panties on.

She started looking around the lot.

Then she saw something move in the corner of her eye, but it was too late and the thing lunged at her.

And all she saw was a flash of light and a shutter.

Suddenly, she jolted awake in a sterile lecture hall, the drone of a professor's voice droning on in the background.

Blinking slowly, she turned to her left and saw Rachael, her friend, smirking at her.

Chloe blinked awake, disoriented and disheveled, the remnants of the dream still clinging to her like morning mist.

She startled upright, heart racing, trying to shake off the otherworldly sensations of fear and longing.

The remnants of Yasha's presence hung in the air, heavy like a forgotten promise.

"Whoa, Chloe, you okay?" Rebecca's voice cut through the haze as she leaned against her bag, concern etched across her features.

"I— It's nothing it was just another dream," Chloe stammered, running a hand through her tousled hair.

"Another dream about Yasha, I presume?"

she teased, and Chloe's cheeks flared, still tinged with the warmth of what could have been.

Rebecca raised an eyebrow. "Intense how? You seemed really into it."

A teasing smirk tugged at the corners of her mouth, but Chloe could see the genuine curiosity behind it.

Chloe took a deep breath. "It started off sexy, but then there were scratches—an attack of some sort—and then… it got chaotic.

"Sounds like you've been watching too many horror movies," Rebecca chuckled,

Chloe muttered under her breath, "More Like Lived Too Many."

Rebecca decided to go to the main point.

"Maybe it's trying to tell you something about him?"

"Like," Chloe murmured, feeling the dream linger at the back of her mind like a haunting melody.

"Move on girl, you and Yasha broke up like 3 months ago."

"No Becca it's been 2 months and 3 weeks and 6 days."

Her friend just looked at her with a telling look that said, 'See what I mean.'

Chloe sighed, the weight of Rebecca's words mixing with the remnants of her dream, creating an unsettling concoction in her mind.

"Maybe you're right," she said reluctantly. But each time her heart whispered Yasha's name, a part of her resisted the notion of moving on.

"Seriously, Chloe, face reality, you need to let it go.

"I know, I know," Chloe replied, her mind drifting back to the vividness of Yasha's presence and the dream's chaotic finale. "It just feels unfinished."

"That's why you keep dreaming about him. Your brain's trying to resolve whatever the hell happened in that messy breakup," Rebecca put forth, a knowing look in her eyes.

Chloe's heart sank. The memories flooded in, shadowy images of arguments and lingering what-ifs.

"Or maybe all my unresolved feelings are haunting me like that...paranormal from my dream."

"Now you're just being melodramatic," her friend laughed.

"But seriously, you should channel these dreams into writing. You've already got a whole nightmare narrative going on."

Chloe chuckled half-heartedly, pushing her hair back as if to rid herself of Yasha's lingering essence, the remnants of the dream still haunting her.

"Yeah, maybe I'll write about a girl battling her ex and a demon while trying to save her sanity at a lecture hall."

"Now we're talking!" Rebecca said, clapping her hands in excitement. "But first, maybe consider unfollowing him on social media?"

Chloe's heart twisted slightly at the suggestion.

Would that truly help? Her fingers itched to pick up her phone, scroll through the pictures that still made her feel like she was falling and flying at the same time. "But… what if he posts something amazing?"

"Seeing little glimpses of his life is only keeping you trapped in the past.

And who knows if he's sharing something amazing or just a bunch of staged selfies?" Rebecca raised a skeptical eyebrow.

Chloe bit her lip, caught in a paradox of desire and determination.

"Fine. I guess I'll give it a try—after class." The thought of doing something proactive gave her a sense of agency she hadn't felt in weeks.
