Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

I felt a warm surge run through my arms, racing towards my throat without warning. The words weren't mine but they flowed from my lips

 "Sol'Mira vak'thar…enthales"

as the words escaped my lips, a violent burst of gold waves exploded from my hands catching her mid-lunge and hurled her across the arena like a piece of paper until she met the harsh embrace of the wall. Students murmured, others gasped so loudly I thought we'd run out of oxygen. I watched the gold waves slowly recede into my arms. They looked almost like the one's from when I and Nevan were in the fireball.

Just when I thought I'd won, I felt her Coming again with so much force and speed, from the goosebumps that erupted from my skin to the sudden chill that ran through my body. I knew I was in serious danger. She wasn't holding back anymore, she was moving on pure rage. As the dust from her hit started to clear up, the blue in her eyes glimmered with an unfriendly light. Her fangs had grown longer, her arms covered in hair. Immediately she set her eyes on me, I unconsciously crossed my hands in front of my head and ducked.

My father had taught me before he passed

"If you can't run, cross your arms, protect your head and brace for impact"

I knew I couldn't run so I had to brace for impact. The moment she saw my stance she headed straight for me, the killing Intent passionately dancing in her eyes. I bent my head, shaking, quietly waiting for her hit

 but it never came.

Slowly I cracked my eye open, noticing a tall shadow over me. Raising my eyes I saw Zevian standing in front of me, hand around her throat. The look in her eyes went from predator to prey. Instant regret.

"I gave you one simple order and you dare…"

"Forgive me… alpha" she cut him, while fighting for air "I beg you. Have mer…"

"You dare cut me off while I'm still speaking" he snarled.

"No…no..forg.."

before she could finish her statement, her body was sent flying across the room. He'd flung her, like she weighed nothing, like she was a toy which had failed to interest him.

"Come here!!" He ordered turning towards the direction she'd been tossed, I saw his eyes…glinting red. And with his order, she dragged herself…blood stains escorting her. She was hurt.

I stood still like every other person in the arena, the weight of what was happening before us, fastened us to the ground. Immediately she got to his feet, her sent her flying with a kick. Right in her stomach.

"Come…here" he repeated slower this time but more dangerous. This time she struggled to get to him, her claws dug into the ground as she tried to get a grip. Pulling herself whilst covered in blood and dirt. When she got to him, I couldn't bear to watch it anymore. I shut my eyes, waiting to hear her groan in agony again.

"Zevian I believe that is enough" Draken called from behind him.

He slowly turned towards me, smirking. Like he was enjoying her pain.

"Should I stop?" He asked me. Me!

Everyone's eyes fell on me.

Somehow her fate and survival now rested in my answer.

"Yes," I heard myself whisper "please, stop"

His smile grew. Then he turned to her.

"Make sure you appreciate her, she is your Savior"

with casual cruelty he wiped off her blood from his shoe using her body. Then he started walking towards me, I instinctively moved back.

Fear? Maybe.

uncertainty?.

He ignored them. He grabbed my arm pulled me close, tilted my chin up and shoved a handkerchief up my nose.

"You're bleeding" he said intensely scanning my face "and there are vampires here".

"She's bleeding too" I muttered.

He paused.

"She'll be fine, there are healers to attend to her" he said as he pulled out the blood covered handkerchief from my nose "plus it's not her first time getting a beating."

Why was he so calm?. She was almost strangled, got thrown across the fucking place and got kicked in the guts and here he was acting like it's normal.

"of course, a new girl shows up and Zevian is off breaking ribs for her" someone said.

"Nira wouldn't be punished if she hadn't provoked her" another girl added.

"You heard that?" Zevian asked tugging at my attention.

"I'm pretty sure everyone did"

"No" he said. "It wasn't even loud enough for the people standing next to them to hear".

My heart dropped.

What? Then how come I heard it.

"You're either very gifted or you're hiding what you truly are" he added, leaning closer "either way…you won't be able to hide it for long".

Hiding?

I don't even know who I really am, how could I possibly hide it?

Everything I thought I knew meant nothing here, so how could I possibly hide anything?

"You're pretty tough for a…" Zevian was cut off by draken

"Due to these events, it has been decided, with the best interest of the student's at heart. That the combat be against fellow colleague's rather than the senior's"

People murmured in disagreement and disappointment. I had managed to mess this up for everyone.

"Is this decision supported?" Draken asked.

"No" a male student stepped forward.

"We came here to be our best…to be Concordia's finest. We know what we signed up for"

Student's supported him.

"We shouldn't be treated less because of a werewolf who couldn't control herself. We don't want to be pampered or shown favors. We want to be pushed and groomed to be our best and it is your duty to help us".

'yeah's' flew around the arena.

"Your courage and determination has earned my acknowledgement and your wish has been granted" Draken said and the students roared in joy.

Somehow those celebration felt like blades to my skin.

They got what they wanted but I became a reason they almost didn't.

Zevian straightened beside me, watching, like he was searching for something.

"The training will proceed as planned, with the Golden gate victors leading" Draken announced. A wave of excitement washed through the arena. In the mist of the celebration I caught thier glares.

Sharp, annoyed, resentful.

Their voices filled with annoyance.

"look at her, acting all innocent"

"our training almost got stopped"

"What could she have done to make the alpha so interested in her".

Zevian tilted his head, listening obviously. Enjoying it.

Then he tilted his head towards me.

"Looks like you're popular" he murmured.

"They hate me" I shot back.

"Hate is attention and you should be flattered…no one wastes emotions on the insigni

ficant".

"Nevan Emberion" Draken called "step forward".

"Well this ought to be interesting" Zevian chirped, excited.
