Yu Jin's intentions were good. His actions were… mostly good.
But there was one thing that was not good at all:
He had zero sense of direction.
However—heaven never blocks every road.
Yu Jin believed: as long as he wanted to walk, a path would appear under his feet.
After asking everyone from clueless elementary kids to breakfast vendors, he finally ended up at the mouth of some unfamiliar alley.
He stared at the totally alien surroundings and fell silent.
"Where the hell did this take me? This isn't even a Souls game."
He… got lost again.
"I don't remember my 'cute trait' being getting lost," he rubbed his temple and mocked himself. "Wait, is a guy getting lost even cute?"
"Maybe turning into a dragon nerfs your direction sense," Yu Jin decided, and calmly pinned the blame on dragons.
"Purebloods are just like that," he stamped the verdict in his mind. Doesn't matter if other purebloods are, Yu Jin is.
"Alright, I'll ask someone again where Shilan High School is."
Morning sun burned away the mist. The streets livened up.
Vendors had their stalls up. Office workers hurried past. Students in different uniforms clustered around breakfast stands.
Yu Jin bought a bag of buns on the way. "Hope these aren't gutter oil," he muttered.
He bit in—juicy, fluffy, delicious.
"Whatever," he gave up quickly. "Even if they are, I can't tell anyway."
He kept asking as he walked, chewing buns, feeling like he was getting close. Victory was near.
Then someone tapped his shoulder lightly, and a familiar-but-not voice chirped by his ear:
"Yo, having breakfast?"
Huh?
Yu Jin froze. Someone… greeting him first? Did they mistake him?
He turned, baffled. A lively girl stood there, also holding a bun. She was grinning up at him.
"Morning!" She flashed a V sign with her free hand.
Yu Jin tilted his head. "Who are you?"
One sentence, and he proved just how hard he'd blacked out.
The girl burst out laughing. "Hahaha! That's the second time you've asked me! Remember last night? BBQ stall? Me, Da Bai's owner! Ring a bell?"
Yu Jin thought hard… fuzzy images flashed past. There was something there, but not much.
She saw his blank look and shook her head like a nagging auntie. "You should really drink less. If you can't hold your liquor, don't force it. At least eat some peanuts first—no way you'd pass out like that otherwise."
Yu Jin scratched his head awkwardly. Yeah, blacking out from a tiny cup was ridiculous.
"Maybe pureblood dragons can't touch alcohol," he muttered, once again shoving the blame onto his bloodline.
"Alright, forget that." The girl smoothly changed the topic. "I saw you earlier. You've been walking around asking for directions. Where are you going? I know this area like the back of my hand—could walk it blindfolded. Ask me anything!"
She patted her flat chest proudly. Local guide energy maxed.
Yu Jin nearly cried with relief. "Shilan High School. You know it?"
"Shilan High School!" Her eyes lit up like stars. "Of course! Best school around, no contest. Anyone studying there is either rich or noble. Great resources, insanely elite! Ahhh—I want to go there so badly!"
"So it's that good." Yu Jin played along with an impressed gasp. He knew it was where the dream began.
Chu Zihang, Lu Mingfei, and a certain dragon… pretty absurd lineup. How good it was in general, though, he didn't really know beyond what this girl said.
"What are you going there for?" She leaned closer, curious. "Wait—are you a student there?"
Yu Jin shook his head. "Nope. I'm looking for someone."
"Looking for someone." She nodded, then pointed ahead cheerfully. "I'll take you there!"
"Really? Won't I be a bother? Just tell me the way."
"Nah, it's fine, it's fine. Consider it on the way!" She didn't let him refuse and marched forward.
"Thanks, then." Yu Jin walked beside her. "I'm Yu Jin. What's your name?"
"Hmmm~" She tapped her chin, eyes rolling playfully. "Just call me the Mysterious Beautiful Girl!"
"Mysterious Beautiful Girl," my ass… Yu Jin rolled his eyes.
"Interesting name. I almost don't dare say it."
"Why not?" She put her hands on her hips, pretending to be angry. "Am I not a beautiful girl? Am I not mysterious enough?"
Fair point—she really was pretty. Young but already delicate-featured; aside from a slight "tragic lack" in certain areas, "beautiful girl" fit.
With how righteously she said it, Yu Jin just nodded. "Alright, alright. You're the Mysterious Beautiful Girl."
"That's more like it!" She smiled, satisfied. "We're almost there."
A few minutes later they arrived before a grand school gate.
"There. Shilan High School—the one you wanted." She pointed.
"Perfect. Thanks, heroine!" Yu Jin nodded gratefully. As for her name… "Mysterious Beautiful Girl" was too much. "Heroine" was easier on the tongue.
She didn't seem thrilled with the new title, but waved anyway. "Fine, fine, heroine it is. I've delivered you safely—now the rest is on you!"
With that, she bounced away down the street like a little deer.
Yu Jin watched her lively back and chuckled, shaking his head. "So youthful."
Back in the day, he'd been a sunny honor student too.
Still was, honestly.
Damn you, Fate! I'll kill you!
At the gate, Yu Jin sized up the guard standing ramrod-straight and nodded.
"Yup. Doesn't look like dead weight."
Then his gaze slid to the tall wall with barbed wire.
"Seems… worth a try."
Not long after—
With a clean kick and a practiced vault, Yu Jin flipped over and landed inside.
No trick. Just muscle memory.
"Looks like class is in session?" He glanced around. "Walking around openly to find someone feels… bad?"
"And I don't even know which class that guy's in."
While he rubbed his chin thinking, the corner of his eye caught a figure squatting by the wall.
A student in Shilan uniform was smoking, exhaling lazily.
He was staring wide-eyed, face full of disbelief.
Shilan was an elite private school. Security was strict. The walls were over three meters high.
So this rich kid who'd snuck out between classes to smoke had just heard outside: "I'll climb in from here."
Then watched a guy drop from the three-meter wall and land lightly right in front of him.
What the hell…
Yu Jin ignored the shock. His worldly wisdom told him:
He had an idea.
"Hey, classmate. Lend me something." Yu Jin gave him a sunny smile and walked over.
A little while later, a Yu Jin wearing Shilan's uniform stepped out of the corner.
The smoking student seemed tired now, slumped against the wall, asleep.
Yu Jin even kindly draped a jacket over him.
